PNG Defence Force ready to evacuate Schouten Islanders "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"

The PNG Acting Government Chief Secretary, Frank Aisi, says the PNG Defence Force's naval element is already on the Schouten Islands, to assist evacuate the Kadovar islanders from the Ruprup Island to Turubu on the Wewak mainland.

Mr Aisi also says a K15,000 relief funding is being mobilized in consultation with the East Sepik Governor, Allan Bird, to purchase immediate supplies for the people.

Scientists at the Rabaul Volcano Observatory, say the spewing of smoke and ash on Friday, has covered the entire island, making it unfit for occupation.

Volcanologists also say while Friday's eruption was only a discharge of old material from the volcano, it could be disastrous if the magma reaches the surface.

The volcano observatory also says Kadovar islanders may not be able to return to their island in a long while.

Mr Aisi says, prime minister Peter O'Neill has directed relevant disaster and emergency organizations to work together help and resource the islanders from the disaster.

"So that's what the prime minister has done. He's also directed all relevant agencies work closely with the National Disaster Office and East Sepik Provincial Government and other agencies to ensure the islanders are safely evacuated to safer grounds.

"The Defence Force is already there, to assist with logistical requirements.

"The Rabaul Volcano Observatory is also being instructed to monitor the situation on the island as well as on nearby islands.

"We already secured the funding and we need to procure the goods from services providers in Wewak town.

We will arrange funding to Papindo in Wewak to purchase fresh water and food which are the immediate requirements."

Frank Aisi is the Deputy Secretary Policy 1, responsible for Economic, Infrastructure and International Relations with the Department of the Prime Minister and National Executive Council.

He's currently the acting government chief secretary in the absence of Isaac Lupari.

Meantime,

Mr Aisi says government agencies responsible for disaster warnings and emergencies should be grouped together in order to respond effectively to events in the country.

The vital disaster warning and emergency agencies are the Rabaul Volcano Observatory which comes under the Geohazards Division, located within the Department of Mining,...

No extra fees for Madang schools "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"

All Government run schools in the Madang Province are not allowed to charge any school or project fees this year.

Provincial Education Director Moses Sariki, says, this is because they do not have a Provincial Education Act that allows schools to charge fees for all TVET, elementary, primary, high and secondary schools in the province.

Mr Sariki says, because Madang does not have such a law unlike provinces like East New Britain, they will have to go by the Education Secretarys circular of 2016, which prohibits school fees and other related fees.

He however explains that while schools are still allowed to collect extra money, it has to be done with the approval of the provincial education board, and must be accompanied by proper documentation of projects that the schools want to implement.

Mr Sariki also emphasized that school administrations and boards must not make decisions in isolation from parents but must always seek their approval through the Parents and Citizens Association meetings.

This means if parents agree, schools can then ask the PEB to allow them to collect what he terms as "parental contributions" for special school needs.

PNG Enga Governor calls on government to bring back AFP "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"

Papua New Guinea Enga Governor, Peter Ipatas has called on the government to immediately revisit the 2004 Enhanced Cooperation Program between the PNG and the Australian Governments, in a bid to curb the escalating law and order issues in the country.

Speaking to the media in Port Moresby, Governor Ipatas described the Royal PNG Constabulary as a 'liability' and that external help is needed immediately.

"We already have an understanding.

"The Australian government was already willing to fund it.

"So I am saying with the difficult economic conditions I don't think we have the resource to bring in 200 to 300 policemen and women.

"My suggest is that all this 200-300 policemen and women are deployed right throughout the country.

Not in Moresby only, not in Lae only, so that the bad type of attitudes that is creeping up in society, and for young people, we need to manage them.

"A policeman who is well trained, will be engaged properly with offenders, will be able to get the society to understand rights and wrongs.

"So I see that from my experience, I see that we are at the crossroads."

SBC: Gullible COCKERILLs Dog Poo Myth

  • an In My View report by NIGEL WARD, commenting on a Report presented to Full Council by SBC Portfolio Holder for Major Projects,  Councillor Mike COCKERILL [Ind.Ind.] addressing the South Bay pollution problem.

~~~~~
The official transcript of Councillor COCKERILLs verbal Report to Council on Monday 8th January 2018 is reproduced, below. Let us allow it to speak for itself. Thereafter, I propose to raise a question. Just one question. For now.
Thank you for the prior notice of your question. Whilst it specifically refers to the South Bay, my replies cover all of the designated bathing beaches along the whole of our coastline.
I will, once again, state that it is the Environment Agency which is the regulatory authority for BATHING WATER QUALITY.
Yorkshire Water and the Environment Agency both have their respective and important roles and responsibilities but the greatest impact of less than EXCELLENT Bathing Water, as targeted by Yorkshire Water with its major investment programme, is on the tourism and business sectors.
As you are all aware, Yorkshire Water and the Environment Agency carried out a major DNA sampling programme of bathing water within the South Bay and Wheatcroft area of Scarborough in late summer of 2016. You have all received copies of the detailed technical report together with the Executive Summary.
The findings of the report are guiding further work towards identifying possible sources and locations where different types of pollution start to be problematic. As was always stressed, we did not believe the report would, alone, provide all the answers to be able to solve the problem.
Some colleagues will have seen the article on BBC Look North last Wednesday when representatives from the Environmental Agency and Yorkshire Water were interviewed.
At this point I would state that I was not approached to participate, probably as the BBC understands, it is those interviewed that have the direct responsibility for Bathing Water Quality.
I am indebted to The Chief Executive together with the Leader and Deputy Leader who met with the Chief Executive of Yorkshire Water as recently as last w...
Im Just Another Tourist in My Home Country "IndyWatch Feed National"
My stomach is churning as I walk towards the big green sign. No matter the destination, the feeling I get arriving at the immigration desk never ceases to change. When I get to the front of the line, a middle-aged Balinese man ushers me over.
Before I get the chance to give him my passport, he grabs it from my hand. His eyes fix on me, then my passport, then back again. He pauses, before casually starting to speak to me in Indonesian. I catch the first three words, but miss the rest hes too fast for me to comprehend. He stares directly at me, and all can do is stare back, oblivious.
He finally snaps.
CAN YOU SPEAK INDONESIAN? Cannn youuuuu speaaaak Indonesian? he asks, in a slow, patronising tone. The question itself is nothing new. Even back home in Australia, I am constantly asked it, but never as condescending as when I hear it in my so-called motherland.
Sedikit (a little), I smile, thinking it will ease the tension. It doesnt. He just shrugs and sighs, then enquires as to where where Im staying. I know the answer to this one: I have been practicing on the plane for the past three hours in preparation.
Saya tinggal di Canggu (I live in Canggu), I announce, pronouncing the c like a k in my Australian-born accent. He looks at me confused, then finally understands. CANGGU! he says, pronouncing the c like ch. Chhanggguuu, not Canggu. Disappointment is etched all over his face and all I want to do is run away.
The airport incident is one of many I face while travelling in Indonesia. Every time I visit, every time I meet a local, their reaction is the same. They are curious as to where I am from: questioning my heritage and testing my Indonesian, then they get frustrated when they learn that I know very little about my own culture.
I sit in the front seat of the cab watching scooters and warungs pass by in a blur. The taxi driver is attempting to make conversation with me in broken English, but it doesnt seem to get past How are you? After a few minutes of awkward silence, I see him in my peripherals glancing at me. His body is tense; hands tightly grip the wheel. Finally, he builds up the courage to timidly ask, Orang Indo, yah (Indonesian person, right)?
Iya (yes), I reply. He breathes a sigh of relief; his whole body relaxes as he sinks comfortably back into his chair.
Mbok dari mana (Miss, where are you from?)
Flaunting British Neo-Imperialism in Asia-Pacific "IndyWatch Feed National"
January 10, 2018 (Joseph Thomas - NEO) - For over a century, the British Empire exerted control over Asia-Pacific, outright colonising India, Burma, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia while influencing and encroaching upon greater China, Siam and beyond.
It exploited the people and natural resources of the region, fuelled conflict as it waged war with rival European powers seeking to carve out their own colonies in Asia and left an enduring impact on the region, including ethnic and territorial feuds still unfolding today, e.g. the Rohingya crisis in present-day Myanmar.
Rather than make restitution for its decades of war, conquest and exploitation, the United Kingdom today eagerly seeks to reassert itself in the region alongside the United States who has also spent over a century in the region pursuing what US policymakers openly admit is American "primacy."
The Diplomat, a US-European geopolitical publication focused on Asia-Pacific, described this development in its article, "The British Are Coming (to Asia)."
The article featured a single image, that of the HMS Queen Elizabeth, one of the UK's newest warships and its largest. It is one of two "colossal warships" UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson recently pledged to send across the globe to aid Washington in its growing confrontation with Beijing.
The author, US Air Force Major John Wright currently serving as Japan Country Director, International Affairs, Headquarters Pacific Air Forces, Honolulu, Hawaii, attempts to construct a positive argument for the UK's involvement thousands of miles from its own shores.
The article admits that the US has few capable allies in the region willing to "comply with mutual defence needs beyond their own territory." It admits that the US has increasingly looked beyond Asia for partners. The UK then, is about as beyond Asia as any potential partner could be.
WVU IWSS: The Human Dimensions of Water "IndyWatch Feed National"
Martina Angela Caretta, WVU assistant professor of geography
The human dimensions of water by Prof. Martina Caretta
Source: WVU, Institute of Water Security & Science, October 30, 2017
Water is the driving force of all nature, but how do people react when an area begins to run out of water? Martina Angela Caretta, assistant professor of geography at West Virginia University, seeks to answer that question in a report she co-authored for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
In the report, Caretta discusses how water scarcity leads to migration of a land, while also studying how gender plays a role in the migration process. She also evaluates how water availability affects social stability and the number of jobs available for younger generations. The report indicates that two-thirds of the worlds population, or four billion people, live in conditions of severe water scarcity at least one month per year, while another half billion people face severe water scarcity year-round.
Climate change is triggering migration, especially in areas of the world that are water scarce, Caretta said. Water is a resource we cannot live without in the Global North as in the Global South. My research is about how our society is organized around water, who has access to it and who doesnt and how we can preserve water or remedy water quality so that we can have sustainable development.
Without that water, individuals cannot grow food for themselves, so they have to migrate to another area to find food and water. This migration ultimately leads to overcrowding, which can upset local citizens and lead to conflict.
One example of this dilemma is the war in Syria, says Caretta. Communities in the northern part of the country could not produce enough food for themselves due to water scarcity, so they migrated to the capital, which led to population pressure in a city where food shortage was already an issue. This, in turn, triggered conflicts between the local ethnic group and the newcomers.
There are a few studies that show a connection between climate change and reduced rainfall, failing yields, loss of livelihoods, conflict and migration, Caretta said. More research needs to be done to close this knowledge gap.
The report estimates that nearly 25 million people per year are forced from the...
At this present time, working replica (replicas of original 17th and 18th century antique muzzle-loading pistols) muzzle-loading pistols of the lock types matchlock, wheellock, tinderlock, doglock, snaphance and flintlock can only be owned by a person possessing a category H gun licence, and these pistols can only be legally fired on a registered gun range. Antique muzzle-loading pistols of the same type may be owned, but not used/fired without the owner possessing an H class licence. Join the queue "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
Recent comments by Peter Dutton on Sudanese crime in Melbourne, in support of the Victorian Liberals' attempts to court that old political tart Laura Norder, underline two failures of strategy: in his portfolio, and within the Victoria Liberals in their quest for state government this November.
The end of the line
Immigration policy in Australia was set at the turn of the century by then-Immigration Minister Phillip Ruddock, backed by John Howard and his government and only ever tweaked by successive governments since then.
The first thing to say about immigration to Australia overall is that it has increased significantly this century. Where the crackdown has come, and the headlines, is in the refugee and asylum-seeker intakes.
Ruddock developed the idea of a 'queue' for refugees - yes, the world was full of desperate people fleeing war and persecution, but all that was required for such people to enter Australia was to "join the queue", fill out some forms and applications would be processed in due course. People who paid people-smugglers and arrived in Australia by boat without visas were "queue jumpers", denying places on the small (and successively reduced) quota for refugee intake to those who did all the right things and waited patiently.
Here's where Dutton has torpedoed that policy, and made himself look silly: successive Immigration ministers from Ruddock to Morrison told us there were people waiting patiently in refugee camps in Africa unable to enter Australia because bad people from the Middle East tried to jump the queue by coming here on boats. None of the people on Nauru or Manus are from South Sudan. They are people who have come here through the very vetting systems that Dutton now oversees.
If you agree with Dutton that Sudanese gangs are terrifying Melbourne, then it follows that he has failed to vet these people properly. You can't believe that Dutton, with his inflated powers as Home Affairs Minister, is keeping Australia safe if you also accept that he has waved through the very people apparently causing this mayhem. Say what you will about Daniel Andrews, his government simply has no role in immigration vetting. Why detain people at Nauru, Manus, Woodville or anywhere else when you are clearly so careless? Dutton is undermining his own narrative:
"But the short answer is that, if people haven't integrated, if they are not abiding by our laws, if they don't adhere to our culture, then they are not welcome here."
Bit late for that champ.
No journalist has called him on it. Credulous dickheads like...
SAD Mark Latham Predicts Free Sausages For All In Stunning Save Australia Day Ad "IndyWatch Feed National"
On the upside, in the future dystopia Australia, everyone gets a paper shredder in their kitchen. On the downside, those same kitchens are under constant surveillance by government-installed closed-circuit television. But on the upside again, everyone gets free sausages.
How did all these things the good, the bad and the fatty come about? Because we changed the date of Australia Day from January 26, to something else.
So says Mark Latham, one time Labor Opposition leader, turned right-wing conspiracy nutter.
Lathams public descent into madness has been, generally speaking, quite satisfying to watch. Like when your racist old uncle falls over at a family barbecue, or when Bill Leak died.
While Lathams latest venture has been a bit unsettling, like any car crash, its impossible to look away. So lets look more closely.
Outraged at the growing movement to Change the Date, Latham has been campaigning to save the date, or in his words, Save Australia Day. If you take the initials from that three-word Abbott-esque slogan it spells SAD. Brilliant!
The ad opens with the question, What if the Greens and Labor Left get their way and abolish Australia Day on 26 January?
A strange woman about to have a panic attack in a butcher shop.A strange woman about to have a panic attack in a butcher shop.
On screen runs a small, excited child who proudly shows her mum a picture she drew celebrating Australia Day. The mum shreds the drawing while looking suspiciously over her shoulder, observed by CCTV.
It then cuts to a woman in a butcher shop who orders a shit-tonne of sausages. She realizes she might be suspected of hosting an Australia Day event. She panics and leaves. Without paying.
Then it cuts to two old men both of whom bear an unsettling resemblance to everything I imagine a paedophile might look like sitting in a nursing home with lamingtons being castigated by a nurse for reminiscing about the good old days.
Russias Interests in Oceania "IndyWatch Feed National"
O74563453423
In the past years, Russias foreign policy has been focused on expanding influence in the most remote corners of the planet. In particular, the Russian party has successful relations with the small island states of Oceania located in the South Pacific and with Fiji in particular.
Until recently, in the mid-2000s, the South Pacific Region (SPR) was mainly controlled by the three players: the United States, Australia and New Zealand. Currently, the US position is characterized by the last-gasp efforts of Washington to keep the control over strategically important territories in Micronesia, which have been gradually seized by China that has already merged the rest of Oceania. The only place in the US influence area untouched by the Chinese capital is Guam. It hosts the largest US air and naval bases in the Pacific Ocean with bombers and submarines, as well as ballistic missiles directed at North Korea. The weakening of the US financial positions in the SPR started after the global economic crisis in 2008 when the empty niches were occupied by China, which was pursuing economic and political goals in Oceania, not the military ones so far. Alongside with China, the Russian Federation started to explore Oceania by strengthening its international image here.
Out of 26 entities of Oceania, 13 are the full-fledged members of the UNO and other international organizations. As a result, friendly relations with these states bring only benefits for a very small by world standards donor assistance worth only a few tens of million dollars, which the partners of the countries of Oceania allocate to them in the framework of the development programs.
The active strengthening of the ties between Russia and China presupposes the common interests, and, consequently, the formulation of a well-coordinated political course in respect of the developing part of the world. Beijing has chosen the largest and the most significant state Fiji as its main ally in Oceania. Moscow is not sitting idle; it is developing multilateral cooperation with Suva, the capital of Fiji.
Fiji occupies a special place in the structure of relationships in the South Pacific Region. This is the largest state of Oceania (after Papua New Guinea) with the population of about 1 million people, which plays a s...
Why Governments are Like an Ameba "IndyWatch Feed National"
QUESTION: Mr. Armstrong; You may be called the legend because of your forecasts on so many levels, but it might also be because you have met with more governments than probably any economist or analyst. My question is simple. From your experience, do you believe you can prevent the economic carnage that is becoming so obvious to everyone except those in government?
SK
ANSWER: The idealistic belief in intelligence and goodness embedded within human beings is increasingly confronted with the harsh experiences of reality. We all indeed act in our own self-interest or we would take no action (Smiths Invisible Hand). Even an ameba, which lacks consciousness as we define it being self-aware, still responds to its surrounding and engulfs its prey to survive. It responds due to its hardwired nature. Unfortunately, humans also possess at that inner level this same survival instinct that is hardwired. This makes it increasingly unlikely that willingness to change gains sufficient strength in time for the abyss to be reached. Hence, we must crash and burn.
Because the government will respond in the same manner as an ameba, there is no hope that they will spontaneously look in the mirror and reach an OMG moment of realizing that they are causing the demise of our society. Consequently, they will consume our liberty until they push it to the point that society will then act only in its self-interest to survive. Historically, all governments collapse once they have consumed rights, liberty, and privileges in their desire to maintain control and in the end, die by their own greed for power. They lack any consciousness of what they are doing precisely as an ameba. There is no reasoning for there is no one single mind to reason with.
Therefore, neither I nor anyone else, possess the power to prevent the cycle from unfolding. The very best I can hope for is perhaps to influence the reconstruction.
Extreme Volatility in Weather Part of Climate Change? "IndyWatch Feed National"
QUESTION: It is crazy hot here in Sydney the exact opposite of the extreme cold in the north. Is there an explanation at all for this?
ANSWER:  Most people do not realize that the climate is actually polar opposites. Both the Arctic (North Pole) and the Antarctic (South Pole) are cold because they dont get any direct sunlight.  However, though the North Pole and the South Pole are polar opposites, they both get the same amount of sunlight but there is a major difference. The South Pole is a much colder than the North Pole and this also contributes to the difference in climate experience around the globe.
The Arctic is ocean surrounded by land whereas the Antarctic in the South is in fact land surrounded by ocean. Consequently, the ocean under the Arctic ice is cold, yet the water is still warmer than the ice! So the ocean warms the air which it cannot do in the South. Antarctica is dry despite the ice. Under the ice and snow, you find land with mountain ranges, not ocean. As with any mountain range, the higher you go, the colder it gets. The actual average elevation of Antarctica is about 7,500 feet (2.3 km).
The extreme heat in Australian, reached 47c (116f), is more akin to the Middle East in summer. I went trekking through the valley of the Kings in Egypt when it was 50c (122f) and I was the only one out and about while everyone stayed in the hotel. As the energy output of the sun collapses, we will witness growing extremes in different regions. The last time it was this hot in Sydney goes back to the 1930s during the Dust Bowl people in the USA. The cycle in extremes appears to be 86 years so this is on target. Australia is dry and ripe for wildfires the same as we see in California. This will contribute to the decline in food supply globally.
Srinagar: In a remarkable feat, 16-year-old Insha Mushtaq, who became the face of pellet victims who lost their vision during the 2016 uprising in Kashmir, has cleared her class 10 board examinations. The results were declared on January 9.
The teen gave the examinations with the aid of a helper who wrote the answers as she dictated. Despite being declared qualified in her mathematics paper, Insha will have to appear for it again as it was noted that she needs to improve.
The news has spread joy in Kashmir. Inshas father, Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, who was engaged as a driver with the state-run Motor Garages Department, started receiving congratulatory calls and messages soon after the results were declared and the news of Inshas success began to spread online.
We are very happy today, Lone tells The Wire, adding that Insha worked hard to memorise her lessons with the help of her teachers. Over the past year, Insha recorded the lessons she h...
Recent Study Proves That Ibuprofen is Directly Linked to Male Infertility "IndyWatch Feed National"
Sperm counts of men living in North America, Australia, New Zealand and Europe are dropping at a shocking rate, with researchers reporting as much as a 59% decline in total sperm count over a 40-year period ending in 2011. For couples currently living with the reality of infertility, this number is staggering! It comes as no surprise, considering that startling data, that the fertility industry in the United States is currently valued at over $2 billion. With couples spending incredible amounts of money just for the chance to start their own families we have to ask, what are we doing that has resulted in such a dramatic loss in fertility for the male population?
Experts have explored a number of theories from the food we are eating to the clothes we wear, but one has recently caught the attention of researchers. Erma Z. Drobnis, PhD., an associate professional practice professor of reproductive medicine and fertility at the University of Missouri, Columbia explained that there is a significant problem overlooked in the testing process for medication today. While most medications are assessed for their impact on female fertility and pregnancy complications, the effects on male fertility are rarely investigated.
Drobnis explained, There is evidence that some medications are particularly harmful to the male reproductive system, including testosterone, opioids, antidepressants, antipsychotics, immune modulators and even over-the-counter antacid cimetidine (Tagamet). However, prescribing providers rarely mention these adverse effects with patients when prescribing these medications.
One such medication, experts are now reporting, is the commonly used NSAID ibuprofen. Often taken by high-level athletes as a preventative measure in an attempt to avoid pain and muscle soreness, a new study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences has discovered that regular use of the medication has been linked with decreased levels of fertility in men.
Increasing ocean temperatures in Great Barrier Reef has ea turtle population 'turning female' "IndyWatch Feed National"
Green sea turtles native to the Great Barrier Reef are under threat from rising temperatures, which are making the majority of hatchlings female, according to a team of biologists. Scientists researching the impact of climate change on one of the world's largest sea turtle populations have found that turtle eggs, laid on warmer beaches along the north-east coast of Australia, can produce animals almost entirely of the female gender. Scientists say it's down to rising temperatures prolonging the incubation process which in turn leads to more female offspring. The researchers, including scientists from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Queensland Department of Environment, are warning the trend could have a dire impact on the future of the species.
Giant Rays Are Being Caught In 'Shark Nets' And Left To Die "IndyWatch Feed National"
The eagle ray was going to die if help didnt come soon. He had gotten snarled in a submerged net off the coast of Sharpes Beach in Ballina, Australia, and was struggling to break free.
Last weekend, Jonathan Clark and a boat crew from Sea Shepherd Australia, an organization that works to protect marine animals, approached the net known as a shark net  at Sharpes Beach and discovered the struggling ray.
Credit: Sea Shepherd Australia
The group regularly monitors this shark net, which was installed to prevent sharks from getting too close to shore and bothering swimmers although experts argue that shark nets do nothing to protect people. What the nets actually do is lure sharks close to shore with bait while some of the sharks then get tangled up in the net, others are able to swim above or below the net without getting ensnared.
The nets are also responsible for accidentally catching and killing hundreds of marine animals each year, including turtles, dolphins, whales and protected sharks like great whites, which the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) classifies as a critically endangered species. And, of course, eagle rays get enmeshed in the shark nets, too.
Credit: Sea Shepherd Australia
As we approached the net, we noticed a bait ball and saw a large shark under the bait ball, Clark told The Dodo. It moved away quickly. We noticed another shape on the seafloor near the net, and using our viewing scope got a very clear view of a dead manta ray that had been heavily predated upon within 10 meters [32 feet] of the net. We then checked the net and found the spotted eagle...
9000 Sealed Indictments -- Rumors of Impending Mass Arrests/Indictments Continue "IndyWatch Feed National"
Source: DiscerningTheMystery | by Joshua Philip
The answer is uncertain at this point, but let's be more specific. The entire reason why indictments are sealed is multi-faceted. If a court were to produce an indictment against a suspected offender, there would need to be certain precautions taken in order to insure the indictment was successful.
We have heard that these indictments are sealed to prevent suspects from fleeing, destroying evidence, or sabotaging the case in some way. However, these files might also be sealed in order to avoid tipping off other possible conspirators of the crimes involved in these cases. To add, if federal law enforcement needed to gain further leads on potential suspects they might let word of the indictments circulate, wait for a time, and then see which suspects lose their nerve and make a run for it.
In this way, law enforcement might use some of these indictments as a scare tactic in order to flush out suspects that they may not have been aware of prior. The possibilities are numerous, it seems. However, instead of further speculation, let's examine the facts of the situation.
What we know from the situation is that the corporate media has not touched the story of these indictments. This seems to suggest that either the media does not consider the story very substantial, or they are deliberately attempting to further cover for the Deep State as they did all through 2017not to mention the previous two to three decades.
These indictments do exist, according to reports. It is the number of indictments which has been the point of confusion. Are there truly over 9,000 of these files, as researchers sugge...
Bad Business: Marque Lawyers Zeroes In On 5 Corporations Caught Trying To Rip You Off "IndyWatch Feed National"
Big business you might remember them from such scandals as you pay tax, we dont and were going to try and rip you off at every available opportunity. Alex Horvath and Hannah Marshall from Marque Lawyers review five recent decisions from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission where big business was caught in the act.
1. GlaxoSmithKline and Novartis suffer pain over misleading Voltaren claims
Voltaren-Osteo-Gel
Youd think big pharma might have learned a lesson from the $6 million penalty Reckitt Benckiser paid for their Nurofen not-really-pain-specific products. Apparently not.
GSK and Novartis are now in trouble over their Voltaren Emulgel and Osteo Gel products the latter being made with the same active ingredient as the former, but priced 33 per cent higher and labelled to suggest it provided targeted relief for osteo arthritis.
The ACCC says that the products misrepresented that the Osteo Gel product provided more effective relief than regular Voltaren. In light of the Nurofen case, the ACCC saw the Voltaren marketing as particularly, ahem, inflammatory.
We sense some big fines on the horizon.
2. Red Balloon feels the pinch of penalties for excessive payment surcharges
Red-Balloon
Online seller Red Balloon copped $43,200 in fines for charging excessive payment surcharges on its website. If youre unaware, there is now a ban on any business imposing excessive surcharges on card transactions. They can only charge a customer what it costs them to accept the payment.
Large businesses such as Red Balloon were required to be compliant from September 2016, and all businesses were affected from September 2017. The ACCC is paying close attention to compliance.
3. Meriton busted for manipulating TripAdvisor reviews
Tradecraft: Five Reasons to Have a Backup Rifle in Your Vehicle "IndyWatch Feed National"
(SurvivalSullivan) Whats the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun? The answer is simple; a good guy with a gun.
Theres a great chance that every time youre in a public area, you pass many people who have concealed weapons. Theres no way to tell what their intentions are, so you need to make sure youre prepared for the worst-case scenario. Thats why we call ourselves preppers, we prepare for everything.
Im all for carrying concealed vs. open carry for multiple reasons, but the biggest one is anonymity. You dont want to paint a target on your back. If there is somebody with ill-intent wishing to cause harm on a mass scale, youll be the first to be targeted (because youre the biggest threat). The worst enemy you can face is the one you dont know, the same goes for your adversary. However, just because you conceal, doesnt mean that youre necessarily prepared to defend against every attack.
For this reason, Ive decided to write this article dedicated to showing you why you should have a backup gun in your vehicle. Before we dive into the list, know that there are thousands of scenarios that can definitely be stopped by a citizen concealing a small firearm; but there are thousands more that require a little more firepower.
#1. Most Conceal Carry Weapons Have Limited Magazine Capacity
Sometimes, the situation at hand requires more rounds than you have on you. While you could always carry more magazines, I recommend having a solid backup plan in your vehicle. Statistically, you have a 40% chance of missing your first three rounds if youre in a shootout at 15 yards or more. That percentage increases to 70% for your first magazine missing if youre getting shot at, during a shootout at 15 yards or more.
Most AR-15 manufacturers have a base-model that cost less than $600 (depending on the state you live in), which is a fair price for a backup rifle for your vehicle. You really dont need super fancy attachments with an AR-15 to be able to engage targets at 150 yards or less, which is the beautiful thing about ARs.
Dont leave your survival, or innocent bystanders survival to chance. Its your responsibility as a prepper to ensure the safety of people who may not be as prepared as you. A selfish prepper is a useless prepper.
So, if youre in a situation where you know youll need a more powerful gun, use your EDC gun to fight your way back to your vehicle. This way, you can grab your rifle, and get back in the....
Reports of UK joining TPP ridiculed "IndyWatch Feed National"
10 January 2018: As the remaining 11 members of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (now rebranded the Comprehensive Progressive Agreement for Trans Pacific Partnership) struggle to reach agreement, some strange reports are appearing in the media.
The Financial Times has reported that the Department for International Trade in the UK has held informal talks about joining the TPP. The UK cannot sign trade deals until it leaves the EU after Brexit, in March 2019.
The idea has been instantly and widely ridiculed. TUC general secretary Frances OGrady said joining the TPP would be scraping the bottom of the Brexit barrel. She said, Trade unions around the world have opposed this deal because it allows labour abuses, it puts public services at risk and it gives too much control to corporations.
UK Labours shadow trade secretary said Of course [TPP] could be helpful but it is not the main event, and at the moment the government is making a hash of that. He questioned why the Department for International Trade was discussing joining the TPP when the current members of the TPP account for 8% of British exports.
Papua New Guinea's Crocodile Whisperer "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
Story and Photo By Michael  Passingan
Port Moresbys Adventure Park Animal Keeper Mr Farapo Sare of Gulf Province is Papua New Guineas Crocodile Dundee.
Mr Sare is the only person who can ride a crocodile like riding a horse and kiss a crocodile like kissing a wallaby.
Having been attacked by the fears looking reptile and being the care taker or the father and feeder of the two beasts, Farapo Sare is the man who can turn a huge 6meter crocodiles into a horse riding show for fun and entertainment.
On Saturday last weekend Mr Sare rocked the Adventure Park crocodile gorge by performing his feeding techniques while riding and kissing two of the fears looking reptiles in front of over hundred spectators who were at there to witness the feeding session.
Mr Sare who is a respectable gentleman but a mute has his own ways of speaking to the crocodiles which they communicate very well during times of feeding and during shows.
His companion and college Peter Spaka said Mr Sare was once a victim to one the giant crocodiles some years back during one of his performances at the Moitaka show but he never gave up.
Sare spent 35years even his life around the two reptiles and today he is a champion and man of courage respected by all who knows him said Mr Spaka.
Mr Spaka said Sare is an asset to Adventure Park and an icon to the wildlife family and is the only one who can speak the crocodile language on when to tell the crocodiles to come out, stop, move and can ride or even kiss the crocodiles.
Sare is Papua New Guineas Crocodile Dundee and the only man who can ride a crocodile like riding a horse, he is our icon and crocodile worrier and everyone loves him said Spaka.
Spaka said the crocodiles are fed every Saturdays at 3pm in the evening and no one does that job but Sare who is the person in charge of feeding the crocodiles and speaking to them knows how to tame and make a crocodile listen.
He said Sare has a long history with crocodiles but to cut it short he was meant for that job, hes a wildlife preserver and he grew up with crocodiles and even regard them as his pets and best friends.
Happy new year to all our listeners out there! On our first episode of 2018, we speak with the author of a book about the resilience of indigenous peoples in the face of climate change, and well hear some recordings of the elusive night parrot in Australia! Our first guest today is Gleb Raygorodetsky, the author of The Archipelago of Hope: Wisdom and Resilience from the Edge of Climate Change, a book published this past November by Pegasus Books. Raygorodetsky is a conservation biologist who has traveled around the world to live and work with indigenous peoples. In The Archipelago of Hope, he details his experiences with a number of Indigenous cultures and the ways their lives on their traditional territories are being reshaped by the impacts of global warming. Raygorodetsky appears on the podcast to tell us about the book and what he thinks the rest of us can learn about climate change from the indigenous peoples of the world. Our second guest is Nick Leseberg, a PhD student at the University of Queensland in Australia whose work focuses solely on the night parrot, a species endemic to Australia that was first discovered by Europeans in the mid-1800s. Though a wild population of the bird was found in the remote outback of Australia in 2013 nearly 150 years after the species was first discovered it still proved difficult for researchers to study because of its elusive nature. Heat stroke is a serious form of heat injury, caused by the body overheating, usually as a result of prolonged exposure to or physical exertion in high temperatures. Heat stroke occurs if the body temperature rises to 104 F (40 C) or higher.
According to doctor attending to him in the ICU ( Intensive Care unit ) Dr Jaiyesh Kumar, the late PNG Kumuls player was already showing symptoms of heat stroke when he was rushed into emergency yesterday afternoon.
Ottio had collapsed during training with the SP Hunters, on Sunday. He was taken to the Gerehu General Hospital before his conditioned worsened and was taken to PIH.
Dr Kumar confirms receiving the 24 year old at about 6:30pm on January 8th. But he says Ottio was already disoriented when he was brought in.
Most his organs were already affected, the heart, liver, kidney. And he was bleeding profusely.
Kumar says at least 15 20 bags of Fridge Frozen Plasma (FFP), 5 blood bags and 2 palettes were used to transfuse him.
Untreated heatstroke can quickly damage your brain, heart, kidneys and muscles. The damage worsens the longer treatment is delayed, increasing your risk of serious complications or death.
Late Ottio passed on at 2 am this morning. He died due to DIC (Disseminated Intra-vascular Coagulation) - clotting process is disrupted, causing him to bleed from everywhere.
Three Local songs to be banned "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
The Papua New Guinea Office of Censorship will issue a circular to all broadcasters by tomorrow to ban three local songs with lyrics deemed as inappropriate for listeners.
Chief Censor Steven Mala revealed that the three songs are Sigarapim saksak, Private Nangu and Meri Sunam by Jaro local.
The call follows mounting complaints on social media regarding the song Sigarapim saksak and the other two songs.
Chief Censor Steven Malas description of the songs was harmful and not listener friendly especially to the younger audience.
Censorship Office has a role to play and that is to make sure that whatever music or video that is broadcasted by Television and Radio is not offensive to listeners and the content must be appropriate to view said Mr Mala.
Following this issue, the Censorship Office will set up a guideline for all artists to follow in order for their songs to be aired.
When we put all the procedures and requirements in place, every new song will be screened by my office before it goes on airplay in any radio station and we hope to do that as soon as possible
The Chief Censor has also invited the concerned artists behind the banned songs to have an open dialogue with his office if they feel the need to justify why their songs should not be banned.
We dont want be seen as we are just there to penalize any musicians, we want to work together with them in becoming professionals in the Music Industry and not just allowing them to produce something that is offensive to the public
Mr Mala said his office is open to the concerned artists for discussion and any other artist who needs guidance content wise.
Why I Make New Years Resolutions Every Year (and How I Keep Them) "IndyWatch Feed National"
Why I Make New Years Resolutions Every Year (and How I Keep Them) | 2018 | Preparedness\Survival Special Interests US News
It seems like theres a backlash this year against New Years resolutions. Its very true that many people make these vows and then slip back into their wicked ways within the first week of the year. Butit doesnt have to be like that.
I think that the first day of the year is a perfect time for introspection. What are you doing wrong? What are you doing right? What should you improve?
Each year, I spend the first with my journal and I write down the answers to these questions and many more. Then, I read over what Ive written and see what I can improve.
Last year, for example, I vowed to lose 20 pounds. I lost 23, and I did it by going back and revisiting my goal. Did I slip up? Of course I lost 31 pounds, gained 12 back, and then lost 5 again. I kept this goal foremost in my mind and worked on changing my habits.
Its the little things you do each day that create the person that you are.
If you arent happy with some part of your life, chances are, its the things you do each day that are supporting the very thing you arent happy with.
Heres how that works:
  • Are you in a bad relationship? Then perhaps you are allowing yourself to be mistreated by not putting your foot down. Maybe you could leave the relationship, but it seems too complicated, so each day you stay and become more miserable. Perhaps youve never communicated the problem to your partner.
  • Are you overweight and/or out of shape? Maybe you are eating the wrong things for your body every day, and you know it but do it anyway. Maybe you are watching TV instead of getting up and moving your body. Maybe you are drinking a sugary beverage every morning or afternoon.
  • Are you unhealthy? Maybe you are choosing foods that support the illness instead of your health. Maybe you are skipping essential medications. Maybe youre putting yourself at the mercy of your doctor instead of doing your own research.
  • Are you broke? Maybe you are spending money to comfort yourself. Maybe you are going into debt by shopping compulsively when something is wrong. Maybe you are too busy treating yourself on a regular basis to see that a treat is an occasional thing and a daily thing is a habit. Maybe you have a $5 a day coffee ha...
From the Introduction
I first heard about the Iron Column from this very text over a decade ago, and it remains, alongside Orwells Homage to Catalonia, my favorite piece of writing about the tumultuous time period known as the Spanish Civil War. That version, printed sometime in the 1990s and distributed by an Australian collective, had a perfect summary of the historical context of the column, worth reprinting in full:
The Iron Column was one of many volunteer militia groups that fought the fascists in Spain during the Spanish Revolution and Civil War of the 1930s. Unlike the other militias, however, the Iron Column found its members not in revolutionary trade unions or in radical political groups, but among the ranks of ex-prisoners. The outbreak of revolution in 1936 led to the liberation of thousands o...
Cave discovery in Gulf, Papua New Guinea "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
European explorers discover biggest underground cave system on the borders of Gulf and Southern Highlands provinces
MANY explorers who came to Papua New Guinea described this beautiful nation as a lost paradise with untouched virgin environment that has offered countless species of animals, plants, flora and fauna, underground systems including caves and water and spectacular diving scenario along the coast lines.
Since the 60s, Papua New Guinea has been visited by Westerners interested in the wonders of its geological karst formations.
British, French, Australian, Spanish, German and Irish caving expeditions spent weeks or even months visiting and exploring the wonders of the underground world that is offered by this lost paradise, Papua New Guinea.
This year, after 3 years of satellite analysis and studies, an Italian team led by Guido Baroncini Turricchia, Maurizio (Bruco) Buttinelli and Andrea Felici from Circolo Speleologico Romano, one of the oldest caving groups of Italy established in 1904, visited our country with the aim to explore and survey new caves in the Folopa territory in Gulf Province.
The team leader of the three Italian explorers, Guido Baroncini Turricchia said Papua New Guinea has the biggest underground system with many caves that are still unexplored.
Mr Turricchia said they had spent last month between Mount Tawa, Bolo, Negebare and Sirigi villages at the border between Gulf and Southern Highlands provinces and with the help and hospitality of the local community, were able to visit, explore and document 25 new caves and 3 km of new passages.
The biggest underground system, Satoshi-Babelrou, is an enormous cave with seven entrances that was partially surveyed for 2km and offers wonderful formation with column 12m high, coloured stalagmites, eccentric stalactites, an underground river and the biggest chamber of the gulf province: more than 100m long and 80m wide, he said. Mr Turricchia thanked the sponsors, including the power firm Solar made it possible to leave a solar panel to the Negebare local community, and through Helperbit platform, a bitcoin fundraising campaign to sustain sport and education in Folopa area that will be activated soon.
He said other sponsors of the expedition are Manker, Fabric, Darwin Viaggi and TIM.
Before returning back to Rome, they had hosted a presentation of their exploration in Mount Hagen with pictures and sto...
Meghan Markle closes social media accounts "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
Meghan Markle has closed down her Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts, Kensington Palace confirmed.
Prince Harry's fiancee took the decision because the accounts "haven't been used for some time". Ms Markle also ran her own lifestyle website, The Tig, which she closed in April 2017.
The palace said the former actress and UN ambassador was grateful to everyone who had followed her over the years.
The move came after the couple made their first official visit in London.
In December 2017, Ms Markle had 1.9 million people following her posts on Instagram, and more than 350,000 Twitter followers.
Her Facebook page had almost 800,000 likes.
Earlier on Tuesday, Harry and Meghan were greeted by crowds of well-wishers at community radio station Reprezent, in Brixton, which trains youngsters in media skills.
Ms Markle went to the engagement in a Marks & Spencer sweatshirt, Burberry trousers and a Smythe coat.
A DJ at the station, Jeremiah Asiamah, described the pair as a "power couple", and added "they became family in the space of five minutes".
"She's beautiful, such an amazing character, if there's any way you could describe a power couple in this modern day and age, it's definitely them."
The founder of Reprezent FM, Shane Carey, welcomed the visit saying: "We're having the spotlight shone on us from all the world's media."
During the visit Ms Markle picked out male presenter YV Shells, for his work in promoting women on the station.
She said: "Empowering the women to make sure they're in a space where it's not as much [male] driven, to be the man there supporting I think that's incredible."
Harry and Ms Markle also visited Pop Brixton, a community project housing local start-ups and restaurants.
The couple met one of the station's presenters, Gloria Beyi, 17, and her producer Finn Whitehead, 27.
Gloria said there was shock that a such a high-profile couple had visited their radio station: "I think a lot of people thought those two worlds would never collide."
Talking to the teenagers, Ms Markle said: "I can see why your show is so popular. You're so thoughtful and your approach is so engaging."
THE PROCESS IN LAW APPOINTMENT, SUSPENSION & TERMINATION OF DEPARTMENTAL HEADS "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
by NEMA YALO LLB
The recent saga in relation to the appointment of the Secretary for the Department of Commerce and Industry has prompted me to write this article for public benefit. The process relating to the appointment, suspension and revocation of the appointment of a departmental head is provided for under the Constitution, the Public Services Management Act 2014 (hereafter the Act) and the Public Services (Management) (Employment of Departmental Heads) Regulation 2014 (hereafter the Regulation). This article should answer two primary issues, namely, what is the process involved in appointing, suspending and revocation the appointment and who ultimately makes the appointment, suspension and the revocation of appointment. For space reasons, some detail aspects of the process are omitted.
Appointment of Departmental Head.
The appointment of a departmental head is provided for under Section 193 of the Constitution and Section 27 of the Act. A detailed procedure is prescribed under Division 3 of the Regulation. When an office of a departmental head is vacant or is about to become vacant, Regulation 3.3 requires the Department of Personnel Management (hereafter DPM) to advertise publicly the position vacancy. Following the advertisement an internal selection committee comprising officers at deputy secretary level from the DPM and the departments of PM & NEC, Justice & Attorney General, Provincial and Local-level Government and National Planning interviews and shortlists candidates following a process prescribed by the Regulation. The Secretary for DPM then forwards the selection report and a shortlist of not less than three (3) and not more than five (5) candidates to the Ministerial Executive Appointments Commission (hereafter the MEAC).
Solwara 1 Hydrothermal Vents: Sources of Riches from the Deep Blue Sea "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
Joanita Nonwo | EMTV | 8 January 2018
The interests in mining the deep seas for its riches date as far as the 1960s with research vessels discovering hydrothermal vents that spew out rich minerals from the earths crust. These vents are very rare, being found only where there are active volcanic and tectonic movements under the sea.
Hydrothermal vents in simple, are openings in the earths crust of the ocean floor where extremely high temperatures exits, spewing out chemical water rich with minerals.
Scientists first discovered hydrothermal vents in 1977 while exploring an oceanic spreading ridge near the Galapagos Islands, and to their surprise, found the area to be teeming with very rare marine biodiversity large numbers of organisms that had never been seen before. Flourishing with life in total darkness, toxic chemicals, and extreme water pressure where no life thought to exist.
It was in the 1980s that the ocean floors of Papua New Guinea was included as a potential underwater mining site off the north-eastern waters of PNG, contained highly graded minerals of copper and gold. T...
Activist: DHS Order on El Salvador Will Break Up Families "IndyWatch Feed National"
(Sputnik) Brian Becker and John Kiriakou on Radio Sputniks Loud & Clear spoke to Heather Benno, an immigration attorney with the Esperanza Center and political activist with the ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) Coalition.
The secretary of homeland security just posted their announcement on temporary protected status for El Salvador earlier today, stating that they announced a termination of temporary protected status for El Salvador after an implementation delay of 18 months, said Benno.
Nobody has a crystal ball, but in terms of where momentum has been, the Salvadoran community has been putting pressure on Congress for quite some time in preparation for this announcement. Were not abandoning hope that Congress could come to a realistic assessment of whats actually going on in El Salvador today, which is extremely unsafe and very difficult conditions for nationals, she noted.
The attorney pointed out that the Salvadorans who would be affected have been living in the US for quite some time; according to recently released figures, there are approximately 190,000 children of Temporary Protected Status holders. This announcement very callously breaks up families and says that, with very little to no lead time, families are going to have to make preparation for being separated or deported.
Becker added that the Salvadorans were far from the first community to face a revocation of their TPS, and thus, tens of thousands of deportations. Other Latin American communities, such as expatriates from Haiti or Mexico, are also being pushed into large-scale migration.
There are approximately 20,000 Salvadorans in Maryland alone who are TPS holders, Benno added. And of those, over 17,000 have US born Maryland children. On top of Haiti, the most recent terminations of temporary protected status were from nationals of Nicaragua, which also happened in November. Then, of course, we had Honduras, where there are tens of thousands. of nationals protected by temporary protected status and no designation or determination was made. Those tens of thousands of people were left in limbo.
This uncertain status leads to enormous pressure on communities, Benno noted. Whether its direct pressure to just deport black and brown people out of the US, or psychological pressure, saying youre not wanted here, youre not a part of the community, people should just leave, thats the kind of pressure that our clients, our community members at the Esperanto center in Baltimore are facing.
The conversation then turned to the Democratic Party, nominally the party that more closely aligns with the interests of immigrant communities, and how little effort t............
BCL to find a way through the window despite ABG shutting the door "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
Bougainville Special Correspondent
Bougainville Copper Limited has not relented in the face of the recent shut out by the Momis government through the reimposition of the Moratorium on mining in Bougainville. The blanket moratorium imposed has effectively put an end to any talks on mining on Bougainville until after the referendum in 2019. This shut out has not, however, deterred the company, which convened a meeting in Buka last Thursday and has developed a strategy to counter the move by the legitimate government of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
Bougainville Copper Limited will now employ a more radical and very ambitious strategy that includes the very controversial Panguna New Generation Leaders (PNGL). This group includes former fighters paid to lobby for mining and also act as a security group for the company. This group had a fallout with BCL in the recent past due to payment issues and their handling of affairs on the ground which is more of a force than a legitimate landowner group.
The key strategy for BCL is the facilitation of a rogue pro-mining element that has the ability to intimidate and harass civilians, just as happened recently to the Melanesian group that entered Bougainville in August of 2017.
Coupled with that, the company intends to use Village Liaison Officers (VLOs) who will target mainly the areas within BCL tenements in and around...
Stand-in triumphs as Rocky Horror goes on "IndyWatch Feed National"
Rising star Adam Rennie is earning critical acclaim after taking on the lead role in the Rocky Horror Show, vacated by Craig McLachlan amid allegations of sexually inappropriate behaviour.
Rennie took to the Adelaide Festival Centre stage on Tuesday night for the first performance since McLachlan agreed to leave the show.
Three cast members from the 2014 production of the popular musical have told a Fairfax Media/ABC investigation that the 52-year-old inappropriately touched them or exposed himself.
A woman and a man who worked as part of the crew have also gone to Victorian police who are investigating the allegations.
McLachlan has denied any wrongdoing and the shows producers say they first learned the details of the allegations in media reports this week.
But they have promised to cooperate fully with authorities and conduct an internal investigation.
Heading into Tuesdays nights show, fans had mixed views on whether or not he should have withdrawn.
But critics praised Rennies work, the Adelaide Advertiser describing it as a triumph.
Audience members also took to Twitter describing him as incredible and genuine and hilarious.
The allegations against McLachlan come from actresses Erika Heynatz, Christie Whelan Browne and Angela Scundi.
Whelan Browne said McLachlan, who played transvestite Frank N Furter to her character Janet, indecently assaulted her on stage during a sex scene.
Scundi alleged McLachlan kissed her passionately onstage even after she had asked that it not be done.
The two women have also rejected suggestions the producers werent told of McLachlans behaviour.
There were two people in management that I spoke to directly and I cant imagine that they could look me in the face and say that those conversations never happened, Scundi told the 7.30 Report.
Whelan Browne said she spoke to the managing director of the production company, John Frost.
I went to John, which he says he doesnt recall, another cast member also spoke to him that day. So, thats two people who spoke to him and if he doesnt recall it, we do, she said.
McLachlan has described all the allegations as baseless.
They seem to be simple inventions, perhaps made for financial reasons, perhaps to gain notoriety, he was quoted as writing.
Big chill, dodgy feet downed Aussie tigers "IndyWatch Feed National"
Thylacine family at Beaumaris Zoo in Hobart, 1910. (Wikipedia)
Climate change may have helped drive Australias marsupial tigers into a permanent grave, along with their dodgy feet.
The last of the marsupial tigers that once roamed mainland Australia the Tasmanian Tiger died out 90 years ago.Aussie researchers believe they now know what drove a once-diverse group of species called thylacines to extinction: a rapidly-cooling climate about 14 million years ago.
They found thylacines declined during this period, when global temperatures suddenly dropped by about seven degrees Celsius.
The cooler climate transformed Australias wet, closed forests into dry, open woodlands, and thats where the tigers dodgy feet come in.
We think the structure of tigers feet and ankles might have made them better suited to closed forests with uneven surfaces, such as roots and logs, and less well suited to open woodlands, says PhD scholar Shimona Kealy, from the Australian National University.
The same time period also saw the rise of modern carnivorous marsupials such as the Tasmanian Devil and cat-sized quolls, known as dasyurids.
Researchers say the rise of dasyurids appears to have something to do with their superior ear-bone structure, which was better adapted to open woodland environments and allowed them to hear over greater distances than thylacines.
The study relied on an analysis of 95 modern and fossil species, including six species of tigers, studying their skulls, teeth and jaws, along with molecular gene sequences.
The research has been published in the journal BMC Evolutionary Biology.
Streamity is Set to Launch the Most Powerful P2P Cryptocurrency Exchange Platform "IndyWatch Feed National"
A new P2P cryptocurrency exchange service Streamity is set to launch the most powerful P2P cryptocurrency exchange platform in the Market. This service is based on the smart contract for secure exchange.
The platform is preparing for its ICO before it starts transforming the cryptocurrency exchange scene with a list and very dynamic and efficient cryptocurrency exchange and investment services run by industry class Algorithm.
A New Exchange Service Tailored to Handle the Dynamism of the Ever-Rising Cryptocurrency Market
Cryptocurrency is evolving to be the best form of money for the 21st Century civilization, fully rich with abilities to carry out transactions securely and anonymously from any part of the world, making it the future of money. Since 2009, different forms of cryptocurrencies have emerged into the market. Some being very useful to the general users, while others have a definite specific purpose. Those with the general usage have surged in prices to unprecedented levels and have been adopted on a bigger scale. But nevertheless, every cryptocurrency is useful in the community who has a consensus on it.
The need for a solution to best harmonize the differences between the thousands of cryptocurrencies have never been answered at least not to a half of what the market demands. A series of cryptocurrency exchange platforms already exists with others attempting to incorporate a variety of cryptocurrencies under one platform as well. But a lot of flaws and unnecessary malfunctions and user dissatisfaction are being reported by users of these exchange services. Anomalies ranging from server blackouts for very long hours, causing users to lose millions of dollars to a full takeover of customer deposits by malicious hackers have recently hit a series of existing cryptocurrency exchange service providers.
Streamity is a well-thought project with some of the most prominent brains on the international cryptocurrency scene carefully knitting its algorithm one patch at a time. Streamity aims to transform the cryptocurrency exchange ecosystem and redefined the already lost glory of lightning speed transaction at the lowest cost cryptocurrency once had. Streamity at the same time will take cryptocurrency investment to the next level by implementing a community choice token, the Streamity Tokens (STM) which will also be used for all transactions within the Streamity network. The STM tokens will be available for exchange to any of the major cryptocurrency. The platform will add the major Fiat Currencies traded worldwide.
Encapsulation, Speed, and Low-Cost Minded Design
One of the most important selling points of the Streamity project is the improvement of cryptocurrency transaction propagation speed. The project has devoted a gr...
Ecuador weighs mediation on Assange "IndyWatch Feed National"
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Photo WikiLeaks via AP
Ecuadors foreign minister says that Quito may pursue mediation to resolve the standoff between the South American nation and Britain over the fate of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
Assange has spent more than five years holed up at the Ecuadorian embassy in London.
We have an enormous interest in reaching a definitive solution to the Assange case and to make that happen we are in permanent dialogue with the government of the United Kingdom, Maria Fernanda Espinosa told a press conference.
We are also considering and exploring the possibility of mediation, she said, adding that the role of mediator could be played by an individual or a third-country government.
The Australian citizen sought refuge at the Ecuadorian mission in June 2012 after losing a battle in the British courts to avoid extradition to Sweden, where prosecutors had been seeking to question him about rape allegations dating back to 2010.
Assange, who denies all the accusations, said that once he was in Swedish custody the US would pressure Stockholm into handing him over for prosecution based on WikiLeaks publication of classified documents.
Espinosa said that Ecuador remains committed to ensuring Assanges safety.
We are a country that defends human rights. A country, moreover, that respects international law, she said.
Describing Assanges situation as unsustainable, she said that Ecuador will continue to approach the UK in a very, very respectful way to find a solution.
This is an OMG climate change moment "IndyWatch Feed National"
QUESTION: Is it in your view a minor cold blip or "OMG we're all going to freeze to death and run out of food ?" BR ANSWER: We are looking at an unbelievable decline in the energy output of the sun which appears to be the most rapid decline in nearly 10,000 years. The Global Warming crowd may be setting society up for mass famine and death because they are deliberately pointing everyone in the opposite direction to get their portion of the $1 billion grants. Natural disasters are the most disastrous when the energy output of the sun declines. There has been a fatal interaction of ecological, agricultural, economic, and political factors that seem to be setting the stage for at least a repeat of what is known as the Great Famine of 1315-1317. The Great Famine started with bad weather in spring 1315. Crop failures lasted through 1316 until the summer harvest in 1317, and Europe did not fully recover until 1322. The period was marked by extreme levels of crime, disease, mass death and even cannibalism and infanticide. The crisis set in motion the great economic collapse that began during the fourteenth century. In our arrogance, we seem to believe we have conquered every aspect of the planet and many argue we can even alter the climate of the planet. The collapse from the Medieval Warm period was rapid, but also deadly. When the climate turned down, what followed was suddenly bitter cold winters and drenching rains which then froze. Europe had expanded as the society always does in warm periods. A study has shown that desert rodent populations of many species tend to "fluctuate synchronously owing to pulses of primary production and seed availability during rainy years, and reduced seed production during droughts" (PLOS 2013).
However, if the pebble was not from Earth, what was its origin and could the minerals in it provide clues on where it came from? Micro-mineral analyses of the pebble by the original research team at the University of Johannesburg have now provided unsettling answers that spiral away from conventional views of the material our solar system was formed from.
10 Questions to Ask Someone Running for Local Office "IndyWatch Feed National"
How can you tell if someone running for local office will do a good job? How can you ensure that he or she will improve your town's economy not get your community further into debt? How can you figure out whether this candidate for mayor or city council is going to uphold Strong Towns principles and take a thoughtful, incremental approach to your community's problems?
Below, we've put together a list of 10 questions you can pose to someone running for office in your town to see whether he or she is worthy of your vote. You could raise these questions in a public forum, at a personal meeting, or even informally, if you happen to run into the candidate at the grocery store.
How's your main street doing? Take our Strength Test to find out. ((Source: Johnny Sanphillippo)
1. Do you think our main street/downtown is healthy and successful? If not, what would you do to change that?
What To Listen For:  First ask yourself what you think could be improved about your main street. Is it safe to walk there? Are businesses thriving? Do people spend time there? If so, then this might be an easy question for your candidate to answer. If not, then think about the small steps that could be taken to make Main Street safer: narrowing lanes of traffic, installing benches, planting trees, hosting pop-up shops in empty storefronts to encourage business activity, etc. Does the candidate mention these sorts of initiatives and understand the importance of a healthy downtown, or does he/she just talk about moving traffic or increasing parking?
2. Whats more important for our city right now: building new homes and commercial space or rehabbing/expanding/better utilizing our existing homes and storefronts?
What To Listen For: Depending on what sort of community you live in, you probably have a sense of whether your town has vacancies and endless...
In todays crazy world, western politicians are wasting billions of tax-payer dollars force-feeding costly unreliable green energy in the bizarre belief that this will somehow change Earths climate.
Even more incredible, they fear global warmth and seem hell-bent on creating global cooling. They should study climate history. It is snow and ice, cold dry air and carbon dioxide starvation we need to fear, not a warm, moist, fertile, bountiful atmosphere.
When Zionism is the essence of life, a break has huge consequences "IndyWatch Feed National"
Breaking with Zionism can be a life-shattering experience.
In Israel, the Jewish-Israeli society is by and large Zionist in degrees varying from the so-called liberal-Zionist to the fundamentalist Zionist. There is not really, necessarily, much of a difference when one speaks of this breaking experience in one faction or the other.
The thing with Zionism is, that its adherents basically see it as a kind of essence of life. The Zionist indoctrination teaches that its about our very existence. The us is generally considered to be the Jewish nation or the Jewish people, and hence the individual is seen as a small part in this. As the survival of the whole also encompasses the individual, any breaking with Zionism is considered a kind of societal treachery, which endangers the strength and even survival of the whole.
Narratives challenging the factual veracity of the survival notion, like pointing out the thriving Jewish existence elsewhere, is rather meaningless for Zionists. Under the Zionist meta-narrative, this is all temporary. Jewish thriving is temporary, and simply awaits a point in time wherein the gentiles will again turn on the Jews, because thats what happens in each and every generation, as the Passover chant goes.
And the Zionist answer to this supposedly perilous, eternal state of affairs, is a Jewish nation-state. So in the bigger paradigm, Zionists simply see the solution the Jewish nation-state, as a survivalist solution. They are therefore not inclined to see any problems ensuing from it, such as human rights violations and challenging of international law, as more than mere obstacles or challenges facing this special case Israel.
So when one points out these violations, this is an irritation for Zionists not necessarily because they are not aware of them but because by pointing them out, one is not showing sympathy with the challenges facing the special case that Israel is, for them.
Since the case of Israel and Zionism needs a special dispensation, even an individuals emotional breaking with Zionism can be perceived as a danger. And when one thus breaks with Zionism, it is seen in highly emotional, personal terms by those for whom it represents the essence of life.
That one then characterizes this kind of allegiance to the Zionist essence of life, as a kind of fascist adherence reminiscent of totalitarian societies, does nothing to add understanding amongst ones peers. It merely adds insult to injury for them.
Furthermore, the talk about the intrinsic violation of human rights inhere...
You Thought Retail Was Dying? Think Again "IndyWatch Feed National"
Over the past decade, e-commerce sales have soared. Many people are claiming that e-commerce will be the end of retail stores.
However, recent figures have shown that the reality is actually very different from what we were expecting.
Will E-commerce Really Replace Retail?
There is no doubt that e-commerce has transformed the way we shop especially with the recent rise of buy online, pick up in-store trend that was recently introduced by Amazon.
retailImage Credit: Depositphotos
Of course, everyone has heard of the e-commerce giants like Amazon and eBay. But how many other e-commerce-only stores can you name off the top of your head? The likely answer is: not that many. Actually, all but one of the top 10 US retailers are physical stores.
In fact, despite the many stories of retail stores being forced to shut down and liquidate, there have actually been a number of cases when its gone the other way around. This can be seen as recently as this year when Walmart bought up several of its online competitors.
Why is Retail Still So Popular?
But shopping online is so much easier. Its fast, its convenient, and we dont even have to get off the sofaright?
 The truth is, despite what we tell ourselves, the world loves to shop. It satisfies some of our most primitive hunter-gatherer instincts and has cemented itself as one of our everyday habits.
Despite the rapid rise in technology over the past decade, there is still something inherently satisfying about walking into a store and picking up a physical product.
Often, we dont just shop because we wan...
The lotus being my 'focused indifference' (is there such a thing?) to the animated murk of toxic frustration, seasoned with rage which burbles in the cauldron. Let me out of here! They scream, while burrowing deeper into the pornographic compound of lifetimes worth of slobbering hungers, coiling out of the black hole stomach of insatiable appetite. The more they eat the more they want, as the consumed devours the consumer ...from the inside out. Why do you think people get so bent over as they age? That is the sucking inward force of runaway gut famine; 'hai fame?'. If that doesn't translate well, I've got a few algore-rithms to help you with that global warming heartburn, acid reflux which, I can tell you, is caused by not adding honey or maple syrup (forget sugar) to your tomato, pasta sauce while it is cooking, so that you can skim the purple scum. This is exacerbated by eating too fast and not allowing the 50% of digestion that is 'supposed' to take place in the mouth to take place. If you add in the general stress of having to be here, you're looking at an exponential perfect storm... in your belly. Go ahead, ask me anything! It doesn't matter if I have the answer, I know someone who does.
Of everything of an esoteric nature that I possess, friendship is definitely on the fingers of one hand. I don't have much exoterically and I am guessing that is because I am not burning out my own stomach lining, with the fire of desire- for shit brushed with oil slick rainbows, fake sun bathing in the neon glow of some Blade Runner nightmare. Bush, who green lighted the Israeli death troops that orchestrated 9/11.
There is no question in my mind that it is not the full blown psychopathic Satanists like the Rothschilds and their front man, Soros that is the biggest problem. Travelling home: A thicket of thugs, thieves & dopeheads "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
KELA KAPKORA SIL BOLKIN
PMV pick up
The PMV pick up
PORT MORESBY The Kundiawa airstrip has been out of action and Chimbus working elsewhere in Papua New Guinea and abroad travelling back to their tribal lands must first fly to Mt Hagen or Goroka.
Public motor vehicles, known as PMVs, then ferry these diaspora members to Kundiawa and beyond to even more remote locations.
Travelling home for the festive season, my wife, children and I departed from Port Moresby for Goroka, where we were greeted by the itch of the fresh, cool air of Apo land.
We picked up our luggage only to be mobbed by kids asking to carry it to the bus stop. In case one of them decided to wander off with it, we politely gave a no for an answer.
As usual, Goroka was busy with most people dawdling around town without having showered that morning. Greasy faced and poorly clothed, they obscured the few neat and tidy humans with some money on this government payday Friday.
Outside the bowling club, a mob stood and listened to a frail man with a bible talking about the Pope and the 666 (mark of the beast) staining the Catholic Church.
It seemed he had studied little theology but spent a lot of time reading about the Churchs dark ages.
We then strolled towards the bus stop and the sight was scary. Repugnant youths descended like eagles on every PMV that came to a stop. Some were half drunk and others were surely overcome by marijuana or poverty or most likely both.
The decent passengers had to push and shove through these ruffians to board the bus. The thugs, for their part, expertly frisked bilums and pockets for anything that they could lay their hands on.
The luggage tags from Air Niugini still hung off our bags so they knew we flew into Goroka and may have some money.
I instructed my Aroma (Central Province) wife to look confident and mingle with our highlands mothers at the bus stop to put some distance between her and the thugs.
Cold Case Christianity For Kids, mother and daughter team review Chapter Two, Part Two "IndyWatch Feed National"
My nine-year-old daughter* and I, both atheists, are teaming up to review childrens apologetics book Cold Case Christianity For Kids, by J. Warner Wallace. The introduction to the series is here; posts in the series are being linked up there as I go along.
*She is in fact now 10. She was 9 when we sat down to review this chapter. One of these days Ill catch up with myself, although I hope I manage it before she turns 11.
Chapter Two: Learn How to Infer: Learn How Detectives Find the Truth
Aaaaaaaand time for Bible class again, cadets and readers!
Jeffries asks who investigated Jesus and the claim that He died and then returned to life (so at least now hes referring to it as a claim, which is an improvement at the end of the last chapter, he was referring to the resurrection without any acknowledgement of the possibility that it might not have actually happened). Hannah and Daniel say that they did. Hannah says that they read that part in our Bibles and found out that there are four books in the Bible called Gospels that describe what Jesus did.
Jeffries replies that the Gospels were written by men who knew Jesus, or were friends of those who did and thus contain eyewitness testimony, which is a very important form of evidence. Jason promptly asks how we know that these are real eyewitness testimonies instead of legends or myths or something? Yay, Jason! Exactly the question to be asking here! To which Jeffries answer is:
Great question as usual. Well take a whole session to talk about that but not today. Were going to start with the evidence we have and see if it holds up on its own. If it does, then we will check and see if we can trust the testimonies.
So, hang on what? Surely the evidence theyre looking at is the testimonies. How the hell can they see if those hold up as evidence before knowing whether they can be trusted in the first place? Surely thats backwards?
(I do note that Jeffries now doesnt even seem to be pretending that this supposed police cadet class has been organised as anything other than an evangelical Bible class. Well take a whole session to talk about that, but no sign of him having planned any actual police-related activities for th...
Researchers closer to understanding how anaesthetics really work "IndyWatch Feed National"
Every day around the world tens of thousands of people needing surgery are given general anaesthetics - yet no one fully understands how they work. Now the picture has become a little clearer thanks to Australian research published in the journal Cell Reports. A team of scientists led by University of Queensland researcher Bruno von Swinderen has uncovered a key effect of the propofol - one of the most commonly used anaesthetic drugs - and confirmed that it does far more than simply put patients to sleep. Von Swinderen's team found that propofol profoundly disrupted a process known as synaptic release, the mechanism by which neurons communicate with each other. "We know from previous research that general anaesthetics including propofol act on sleep systems in the brain, much like a sleeping pill," he says.
My Walk to Equality: One year down. What next? "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
Paradise-Mag-ScreenshotRASHMII BELL
BRISBANE - Today is the one year anniversary of Pukpuk Publications release of My Walk to Equality, Papua New Guineas milestone volume of essays, short story and poetry written entirely by PNG women.
The book was made available on Amazon on 10 January 2017, launched a couple of months later on International Womens Day in March and proved to be a great success.
After a short break, the small project team has resumed planning to put in motion the next steps to address the issues raised by MWTE.
Already, expressions of interest have been submitted to showcase MWTE at several Australian inter-state literary festivals in 2018. These include major events in Sydney and Melbourne.
It is intended that a number of Papua New Guinean-based MWTE writers participate, an experience previously enjoyed by fellow writers Francis Nii, Martyn Namorong and Daniel Kumbon in 2016 and Vanessa Gordon, Elvina Ogil, Helen Anderson and Tania Basiou in 2017. I had the privilege of participating in both years.
The positive rapport developed in the past three years with the Brisbane Writers Festival and Sunshine Coast International Writers Festival is envisioned to continue this year. As always, funding is a crucial factor.
Without the tireless networking efforts and generosity of individuals and a small handful of organisations, PNG literature would not be in the progressive state it is today.
People like Keith Jackson, Phil Fitzpatrick, Bob Cleland, Murray Bladwell, Prof Ken McKinnon, Syd Yates, Jo Holman and supporter and donor Gummi Fridriksson are amongst those who have facilitated this process on a domestic and international level.
The acceleration and improvement in Papua New Guinean publishing has been reflected in the rapid domestic and international attention given to PNG writers. But this has not been reciprocated in financing and the PNG government has shown no interest in the countrys literary output in great contrast with other national social endeavours, significantly that of male-dominated sporting codes.
It is past time that governmental supp...
Justice Denied: The Government Is Not Going to Save Us "IndyWatch Feed National"
americanpolicestate
The warlords of history are still kicking our heads in, and no one, not our fathers, not our Gods, is coming to save us. Journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled: it will not hear the case of Young v. Borders.
Despite the fact that a 26-year-old man was gunned down by police who banged on the wrong door at 1:30 am, failed to identify themselves as police, and then repeatedly shot and killed the innocent homeowner who answered the door while holding a gun in self-defense, the justices of the high court refused to intervene to address police misconduct.
Although 26-year-old Andrew Scott committed no crime and never fired a single bullet or lifted his firearm against police, only to be gunned down by police who were investigating a speeding incident by engaging in a middle-of-the-night knock and talk in Scotts apartment complex, the Supreme Court refused to balance the scales between justice and injustice.
Despite the fact that police shot and killed nearly 1,000 people nationwide for the third year in a row (many of whom were unarmed, mentally ill, minors or were shot merely because militarized police who were armed to the hilt feared for their safety), the Supreme Court will not act to right the wrongs being meted out by the American police state.
Although knock-and-talk policing has become a thinly veiled, warrantlesslethalexercise by which citizens are coerced and intimidated into talking with heavily armed police who knock on their doors in the middle of the night, the Supreme Court will not make the government play by the rules of the Constitution.
The lesson to be learned: the U.S. Supreme Court will not save us.
No one is coming to save us: not the courts, not the legislatures, and not the president.
Khamenei To West: Youve Failed, And You Will Fail In The Future In Disturbing Iran "IndyWatch Feed National"
Irans supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that his country has foiled attempts by its foreign enemies to turn genuine protests into a full-blown insurgency to overthrow the Islamic Republic. Once again, the nation tells the U.S., Britain, and those who seek to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran from abroad that youve failed, and you will fail in the future, too. he tweeted.
Comments on Khameneis official Twitter page, as well as in Iranian media highlighted the Iranian governments confidence that it had extinguished the turmoil, which had spread to more than 80 cities and left some 22 people dead.
The Revolutionary Guards, Irans military force, said on Sunday that security forces had put an end to the disturbances that it said had been whipped up by foreign enemies, according to Reuters.
At least 1,000 people have been detained following the largest anti-government protests Iran has witnessed in almost a decade.
Khamenei accused U.S. President Donald Trump of trying to rouse trouble when he tweeted support for the protestors, saying that they were attempting to take back their corrupt government and promising great support from the United States at the appropriate time!
The Iranian leader responded in kind, tweeting: this man who sits at the head of the White House although he seems to be a very unstable man he must realize that these extreme and psychotic episodes wont be left without a response.
Khameneis condemnation was not only reserved for Washington and London. He also accused Israel, an exiled dissident group Mojahedin-e-Khalq and a wealthy government in the Gulf, in reference to Saudi Arabia, for trying to stir up legitimate protests for other purposes.
The plot has been hatched by Americans and Zionists. They have been working on it for several months, planning to begin from small towns and then move on towards the center. The cash comes from one of the filthy rich Persian Gulf littoral states. Obviously, such projects need money, but the Americans wont be willing to spend anything as long as they have these [rich allies], Khamenei said.
He added that the murderous Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization, served as their lackeys on the ground, according to PressTV.
He called the protests initially spurned by economic issues, but soon turned political playing with fireworks. He went on to affirm that Iranian citizens have the right to express legitimate concerns.
These concerns must be addressed. We must listen, we must hear. We must provide answers within our means, Khamenei was quoted as saying, hinting to the fact that the clerical leadership, not only Irans elected president, Hassan Rouhani, must also respond to the protests.
John Doe, citizen, went to his therapists office for his regular Wednesday appointment.
The therapist sat back in his swivel chair and stared at John.
You look terrible, he said.  What happened?
John nodded, wiped his forehead with a handkerchief, and said, I had a dream last night and it shook me up.  I dont even like remembering it.
A dream? the therapist said.  Thats good.  Tell me about it.
Well, I was on a game show, and the host was this horrible man.  I mean, he was very nice, but it was what he didafter I answered all the questions correctly.  He said I should choose a door, and behind it there would be a prize.  So I glanced behind him, and all of a sudden the walls of the studio were all doors.  I dont know how many.  And every door had the same sign on it.  IMAGINATION.
The therapist leaned forward and let out a groan.
My God, he said.  That IS horrible.  What did you do?
Do?  What could I do?  I was paralyzed.  I couldnt move a finger.
Yes, well, the therapist said, I can understand that.  Look, this calls for medication.  We have to take drastic action.  Im going to write you a prescription for Theragon.
Whats that? John said.
Its experimental, the therapist said.  First of all, it returns your mind to a completely normal state.  Ive had very good luck with it.  And then, within a day or two, it adjusts your cosmological impulse.
Say again? John said.  Cosmological?
Yes.  It goes after your synapses and opens them up.  We dont entirely understand this part of the process, but essentially, it puts your brain in touch with every other brain on the planet.  And then your brain adopts whatever the average is.
The average of what? John said.
Of what all other brains believe about reality itself.
And thatll help?
Of course!  Youll automatically click into a state of very comfortable knowing.  And, best of all, youll never face that stark choice again.
A Dubious Patriotism:: On Accommodating Reality "IndyWatch Feed National"
Methinks that, for the good of the country, it is time  that the  Alt-Right, those bitterly hostile to our Latin-America population, stop and think. There is a difference between opposing further immigration, a good idea, and constantly attacking American citizens.
Many good reasons existed for preventing  massive immigration from the south. But it happened. Some forty-five million legal Hispanics (whatever exactly the word means) are now in America, mostly citizens. They show no signs of leaving. They cannot be deported. Their children become citizens. It is unlikely that many of the (very vaguely) estimated twelve million illegals will be deported or chased out.
Given this reality, the question becomes, or should become, what to do to, for, with, or about these people? The future of the country very much depends on the answer
A  beginning would be not to turn them into another dysfunctional, hostile racial minoritywhich is exactly what the Alt-Right seems bent on doing. Blacks, thirteen percent of the population, appear irremediably angry with obvious untoward consequences. If the Alt-Right can make another seventeen percent into internal enemies, it will be the end of anything recognizable as America.
Yet from the organs of the Alt-RightVdare, Breitbart News, and so oncomes a drumbeat to the effect that Latin-Americans are stupid, filthy, lazy, criminal, and parasitic. Mr. Trump,  hostile to Mexico and Mexicans, has called them rapists, which resonates in Latin America much as Hillarys deplorables speech did in Middle America. We have hysterical books painting them as the end of civilization and human decency. (Ann Coulters Adios, America! The Lefts Plan to Turn Our Country into a Third World Hellhole comes to mind.)
Yet from the Alt-Right comes no suggestion  of practical policy toward the permanent Latin population.  Hatred is not a policy.
What to do?
The choices available to the country, other than doing nothing, are to encourage, or to discourage, assimilation. For the good of the United States, assimilation seems much the better choice. Diversity is almost always a disaster, but, if you already have it, and it is not going to leave, the best hope is to assimilate it, to encourage the diverse to move into the middle...
The Holy Spirit what the Holy Spirit means to me part 31 The Holy Spirit and leaving the church of my forefathers the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand "IndyWatch Feed National"
This morning, as I write at a time well before dawn, the electricity is off.
We live in the sub-tropics of east coast Australia, near Coffs Harbour, and tonight there is an electrical storm not far away in the Dorrigo mountains.
The hot calm of yesterday has been replaced by a restless cool wind and perhaps the storm will pass by our farm in the next hour or two and bring some passing rain.
In geographical terms, its called orographic rainfall where warm weather from the ocean collides with the cool of the mountains.
The Dorrigo mountains rise steeply from the end of the coastal plains where we live and rise 4000 feet to the New England plateau.
The rains have started sooner than I thought and I can hear heavy rain-drops starting to fall outside on the tin roof.
The electrical company has probably turned the electricity in our area off as a precaution, in case lighting strikes somewhere in its grid system and causes damage.
In the late 19th century, towns and cities changed from being lit by gas lamps in houses and gas lights atop poles to being lit by electricity.
Its like this with the Blessed Holy Spirit when He comes into our lives, everything changes and things move to a new level.
My parents, and their parents before them, and their parents before themand their parents before them going back hundreds of years were Presbyterians.
My paternal grandmother Georgina Elley (nee Smith) emigrated from Scotland to New Zealand in 1910 on-board a sailing ship, accompanied by her sister. In New Zealand she married a New Zealander Jim Elley, whose forebears are from England.
SHANGHAITo those it seeks to influence, the Chinese Communist Party can be an intimidating presence.
The China scholar Perry Link once called the party the anaconda in the chandelier.
Just by hovering, it induces self-censorship and subtle behavioral changes. This has long been the case within China. Increasingly, as China projects outward, prominent figures in the Westpoliticians, executives, academicsare making nervous adjustments, too.
David Cameron should know.
The former British prime minister faced the partys reproach after meeting the Dalai Lama in 2012, then spent the rest of his term straining to get back into its good graces, including declaring a Golden Era in U.K. relations with Beijing.
Put this down as another win for the partys psychological pressure tactics.
The mere fear of retaliation suggested by Chinese displeasure was enough to trigger a shift in government attitudes. No British leader is likely to receive the Tibetan spiritual leader again. London has adopted a more deferentialcritics would say sycophanticdiplomatic tone toward Beijing. Officials soft-pedal human rights.
And now Mr. Cameron has re-emerged from the aftermath of the Brexit vote as an ambassador for Chinas flagship Belt-and-Road geopolitical project.
Teachers rights violated after she was pushed to the floor and handcuffed for asking the school board questions "IndyWatch Feed National"
Watch as this teacher gets thrashed and cuffed by a jackboot thug: SHOCKING VIDEO
VERMILLION PARISH (INTELLIHUB) A teacher was pushed to the floor and handcuffed by a marshal for asking questions during a Louisiana school board meeting Monday night.
Deyshia Hargrave, an English teacher at Rene Rost Middle Schools, asked the board a few questions about teachers pay and her questions were answered but after the teacher asked a second round a marshal escorted her out of the building in cuffs.
It is not yet known if the board ordered the teachers removal from the building or if the marshal took it upon himself to do so.
The board does not plan to press charges against the woman.
West Papuan independence campaigners have called for the release of an activist who has been put on trial for treason after he helped gather signatures for a petition.
Yanto Awerkion was arrested for his involvement in a pro-independence petition which gathered more than 1.8m West Papuan signatures.
The petition, calling for a free vote on independence, had been outlawed by Indonesian authorities but was smuggled out of the region and delivered to the United Nations in September.
The 27-year-old man is deputy chair of the Timika branch of the pro-independence West Papua National Committee (KNPB). According to his supporters he was arrested after getting on stage to speak about the petition at an event in May.
Finally a New York Times columnist says liberal Zionism is dead "IndyWatch Feed National"
The best thing about Michelle Goldbergs column in the New York Times on the death of the two-state solution is its tone. Shes not that upset about it. Yes, she says the end of a Jewish state would be disastrous, in passing, but she knows that what Israel is practicing is apartheid and she insists that American Jews wont prop it up in the long run. (However long that is! Stay warm in jail, Ahed.)
Supporters of Israel hate it when people use the word apartheid to describe the country, but we dont have another term for a political system in which one ethnic group rules over another, confining it to small islands of territory and denying it full political representation.
Goldberg repeatedly detaches herself from Israels supporters; and the only expert she quotes is a Palestinian! Nobody from J Street gets to tell you how to think.
If the Israelis insist now on finishing the process of killing the two-state solution, the only alternative we have as Palestinians is one fully democratic, one-state solution, [Mustafa] Barghouti says, in which everyone has totally equal rights.
Mustafa Barghouti, at funeral of four youths killed in Sair village, Palestine, Jan. 2016
And though Israel will not accept democracy, Goldberg concludes, most of the world  including most of the Jewish diaspora will have to support a Palestinian campaign for equal rights.
Israels apologists will be left mimicking the argument that William F. Buckley once made about the Jim Crow South. In 1957, he asked rhetorically whether the white South was entitled to prevail politically and culturally, in areas in which it does not predominate numerically. The sobering answer,...
Esther McVey is now UK Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. Expect many, many deaths "IndyWatch Feed National"
You knew This Writer would have a few things to say about this.
In a characteristic departure from anything resembling reason, sense or sensitivity, minority prime minister Theresa May has named Esther McVey as her new Secretary of State for Work and Pensions.
The announcement is certain to ramp up levels of anxiety, stress and fear among the unemployed, together with those who have long-term illnesses and disabilities.
U K (the Fascist state?)
Some may even be pushed to suicide because of it. Others may die because the decision to appoint Ms McVey may worsen their physical health conditions.
There would be good reason for them to behave in such a manner, too: They remember the performance of the woman known as Fester McVile in her previous role as Minister for Employment.
Lets add a little more flesh to the criticisms.
As Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for People with Disabilities, she oversaw the dismantling of Remploy as a government-owned employer of disabled people, saying the factories should be freed from government control and funding could be better used if spent on helping disabled people into work through individual support. Experience in the years since then has proved this claim to be false. The disability employment gap is widening, with 114 disabled people leaving work for every 100 gaining jobs. And only last month, Chancellor Philip Hammond lied to the nation with a claim that lower productivity in the UK economy was due to disabled people.
In December 2012, Ms McVey boasted that, when Disability Living Allowance (DLA) was replaced by Personal Independence Payments (PiPs), more than 300,000 people would have their benefits cut or removed altogether. She thought it was a good thing.
In January 2013, she did not bother to turn up to a Parliamentary debate on private firm Atoss handling of the hated Work Capability Assessment of people claiming Employment and Support Allowance, even though she was the minister responsible. She left it to Mark Hoban, then-Minister of State at the DWP, who answered only 10 questions out of dozens that were put to him. In August of that year...
US apologises to Japan over repeat accidents "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
Japan says the US has apologised for a series of recent accidents on its territory involving American military equipment.
The incidents on the southern island of Okinawa included the emergency landings of two US military helicopters.
Okinawa Governor Takeshi Onaga said he was "lost for words" and wanted the US military to "feel ashamed" over the incidents.
The island hosts the largest US military presence in Japan.
Over the past few years, a number of accidents and crimes have led to growing local opposition to the US base.
Speaking to reporters, Japanese Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera confirmed he had received an apology from his American counterpart:
"The US Defence Secretary James Mattis told me about the details of the emergency landings of US aircraft and apologised for the situation where such incidents have been happening one after the other.
"Mr Mattis said the US fully understood the situation and would deal with it sincerely as a serious issue."
On Monday, a US attack helicopter made an emergency landing in the grounds of a hotel on the island.
The helicopter crew landed the aircraft because a warning light had come on, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reports.
On Saturday, another US military helicopter made an emergency landing on an Okinawan beach because of a faulty rotor.
No-one was injured in either incident.
The US presence on Okinawa in southern Japan is a key part of the post-war security alliance between the two countries. The base houses some 26,000 US troops.
In 2016, the murder of a woman was linked to an ex-Marine employed at one of the bases, which led to a temporary ban on alcohol as well as a midnight curfew.
The US government wants to move Futenma, the largest Marine base in Okinawa, to a more remote location on the island.
But Mr Onaga is leading a campaign to get the US military base off the island completely.
I know were not supposed to have heroes, but some teachers deserve the title "IndyWatch Feed National"
The money is always supposed to move upwards, and its a crime to question it. Take, for example, this Louisiana teacher who dared to ask why administrators were getting raises when teacher salaries had been frozen for years:
Local news station KATC reports that Deyshia Hargrave, a teacher at Rene Rost Middle Schools in Kaplan, Louisiana, attended a Vermilion Parish School Board meeting on Monday to ask questions about how the board could vote to increase the superintendents pay despite the fact that many school employees have worked for years without a pay increase.
Hargrave was informed that she was not supposed to ask questions at the meeting, as this was only intended to be a forum for public feedback. Nonetheless, board members tried to answer her questions.
It seems to me that asking a question is a perfectly reasonable form of feedback, especially since asking administrators why they have given themselves a raise is much more polite than simply stating that you protest the inequities constructed by the ratfuckers in charge, which would not be a question, and therefore would be allowed.
Unfortunately, in America in 2018 there can only be one response to questioning authority.
Now theyre saying she wasnt arrested, she was just thrown to the ground and handcuffed. Just.
Reading 1 1 SM 3:1-10, 19-20
During the time young Samuel was minister to the LORD under Eli,
a revelation of the LORD was uncommon and vision infrequent.
One day Eli was asleep in his usual place.
His eyes had lately grown so weak that he could not see.
The lamp of God was not yet extinguished,
and Samuel was sleeping in the temple of the LORD
where the ark of God was.
The LORD called to Samuel, who answered, Here I am.Samuel ran to Eli and said, Here I am. You called me.
I did not call you, Eli said. Go back to sleep.
So he went back to sleep.
Again the LORD called Samuel, who rose and went to Eli.
Here I am, he said. You called me.
But Eli answered, I did not call you, my son. Go back to sleep.
At that time Samuel was not familiar with the LORD,
because the LORD had not revealed anything to him as yet.
The LORD called Samuel again, for the third time.
Getting up and going to Eli, he said, Here I am.
You called me.
Then Eli understood that the LORD was calling the youth.
So Eli said to Samuel, Go to sleep, and if you are called, reply,
Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.'
When Samuel went to sleep in his place,
the LORD came and revealed his presence,
calling out as before, Samuel, Samuel!
Samuel answered, Speak, for your servant is listening.Samuel grew up, and the LORD was with him,
not permitting any word of his to be without effect.
Thus all Israel from Dan to Beersheba
came to know that Samuel was an accredited prophet of the LORD.
The True Value of Bitcoin "IndyWatch Feed National"
By Chris Martenson of Peak Prosperity
So in the past week, Ive been asked for advice on Bitcoin by my brother-in-law, my local realtor, and close friends from as far away as Texas.
None of them cared to learn what it actually is. Or how it works. They just wanted to understand why suddenly so many folks they know are trying to buy Bitcoin hand over fist. And, of course, should they buy in now, too?
If you (or people you care about) have similar questions, this report is for you.
A Brave New World
Remember the scene from the movie Avatar, where the main character first explores the alien world of Pandora? I found that scene astonishing and beautiful. Hes encountering an entirely new and completely foreign ecosystem.  Every element is fascinating and wondrous, even the dangerous elements yet it all still follows understandable rules.
Everything is involved in either gathering sunlight or eating something else that had. Every niche is filled. Every organism has its own strategy: some light up, some fly, some run, some crawl. As entirely alien as everything is, if you understand the basics of how organisms filled their niches on Earth, you have a great starting point for understanding of the rules of life on Pandora.
Similarly, a great way to begin to understand the new world opened up by Bitcoin (and the other cryptocurrencies) is to realize that its an ecosystem that, at its heart, maps neatly into the universe you already understand. A few examples: payments, identity, contracts, verification, and record keeping (ledgers).
As with any ecosystem in nature, a new organism will survive and flourish if and only if its more efficient and effective than the prior model. For example, nothing has displaced sharks in the past 425 million years because theyre extremely efficient in their niche. To displace them, a new ocean predator would have to come along that does what they do faster, better, and (energetically) cheaper.
So the operative questions we need to keep in mind when looking at the brave new world of digital currencies are: What problem(s) are they solving?, and, Are their solutions faster, better, and/or cheaper?
These are critical questions to answer. When a new technology is first introduced, all manner of fanciful thinking can cloud peoples better judgment with dreams of easy riches. Think back to 1999: as long as dot com was added to the end of a business name, it could raise abundant funds to pursue all manner of impractical ideas. How well did that work out? Just remember Pets.com, Webvan.com and eToys.co; all certified capital destroying ideas.
Investors would have benefited f...
The Trans Lobby Hates This Man For Proving Sex-Change Regret Is Real "IndyWatch Feed National"
Is regret permissible? And if you regret something in your life, should you be allowed to talk about it with others? Publicly? The answer is so obviously yes that any reasonable person would be baffled to even hear such questions. Thats because regret is simply part of being human.
But what if you regret trying to change your sex? Or maybe youre just tired of propping up a persona? Worse, what if you regret having all of the surgery to promote the illusion of a sex change? This is the case with Walt Heyer, who lived as a woman for nearly a decade then de-transitioned after coming to terms with the fact that he was born male.
He has written books about his experience and has a website called www.sexchangeregret.com. Today Heyer is inundated with calls and emails from transgender individuals who regret their decisions, but feel they must live in the shadows.
Interest in Walts website has exploded over the past couple of years, especially after murmurs of regret started getting a bit of coverage in the news. Walts website receives about 25,000 visits in any given month, and at least a thousand transgender people have personally sought him out to talk to him about their regrets.
Detransitioners face a lonely and difficult road in todays era of political correctness. Hollywood, the media, and academia promote a culture hostile to them for even considering changing their minds. This leaves regretters with virtually no place to go to talk about their feelings. The near-total politicization of the field of psychiatry now calls for the total affirmation of transgenderism and implicit punishment for those who dont comply. This means regretters have a hard time even finding a therapist willing to talk openly and honestly with them about the possibility of de-transitioning.
Trans Fatigue Is Setting In
Trans-mania probably peaked at some point in the past year or so. Early in the wake of the sexual revolution, gender benders got increasing press coverage. It built up over the decades, and I think well look back and see Bruce Jenners 2015 Vanity Fair cover story as the high-water mark of the trans fad. The media and the trans lobby is certainly in denial about this. But a lot of folks are feeling a decline in trans-mania.
Society is now in the throes of trans fatigue. This is reflected in the profusion of newer websites openly explor...
Australia - Gunnedah Shire Council have reached out to NSW Health to start water fluoridation process "IndyWatch Feed National"
GUNNEDAH could have fluoride in its water by 2020 after Gunnedah Shire Council (GSC) commenced the process to fluoridate the towns water supply.
The decision to accept a proposal to add fluoride to the water supply was passed in December when council resolved to write to NSW Health to commence the water fluoridation process.
GSCs infrastructure services acting director Daniel Noble said the council will continue to investigate the best way to implement the water fluoridation project.
As per council resolution, council has written to NSW Health requesting approval to commence fluoridation of the Gunnedah water supply in accordance with section six of the fluoridation of public water supplies act, Mr Noble said.
In preparation for approval, the council will continue to investigate best practice for planning and implementing the fluoridation project, and refine the planning and construction documentation required to build the fluoride dosing station and associated infrastructure.
Fluoridation of the Gunnedah water supply is expected to commence in 2020.
Every time a bell rings, an airport gets more subsidies "IndyWatch Feed National"
I woke up yesterday to this headline on the front page of my local paper:
Dispatch headline.jpg
The operative word here is, of course, "giving" with very little comparatively in return to show for it. My hometown of Brainerd just finished a major project to provide sewer and water to the airport, one that, even if it had gone well (it didn't) could hardly have been justified by any financial analysis we could have done (we didn't do any).
The Unanswered Questions
As a form of therapy, perhaps penance, I've written about this project many times. Almost exactly two years ago, I put together a list of questions we should be asking as we prepared to undertake a project substantially larger in size than our entire tax levy (it's a massive project for us). You can guess how many of these questions we stopped to consider before plowing ahead. (Hint: Given an over/under of 1, take the under.)
  • What do we estimate this investment will create in new revenue to the city over the next two decades? What other costs (police, fire, infrastructure, etc.) are associated with obtaining those revenue streams? Does this make any financial sense?
  • What long term obligations are we assuming by agreeing to this project? We obviously now must maintain all this new pipe, but what else are we committing future councils to?
  • Beyond getting the project built  which is the objective of those promoting it  what does success look like for the city? Is it an increase in the tax base? Is it a number of new jobs? What is success and how will we know we've achieved it? What are those measurements and who is doing the measuring/reporting?
  • In addition to committing this money and building this project, are there other things we need to do to ensure success? Are we prepared to do these things? Will future councils find it easy or difficult to continue to do these things?
  • What is failure  what is the worst-case outcome once this project is completed  and how would that impact us? In other words, what is our potential downside risk, how likely is that to hap...
He says anyone caught in the act will be charged accordingly to the law.
The Department is also aware of a Buyer from Solomon Islands who is doing illegal trade at Wakunai, Tinputz and Selau.
Mr Auhi is calling for the authorities to investigate this matter and report immediately if the allegations are true so that parties involved are dealt with by the law.
He is appealing to Bougainvillians living along the coast to respect the law and wait for an appropriate time once the market is open instead of selling at a forbidden time and also for cheap prices.
Vidnes Vikings : Rest in Peace Kato Ottio "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
Widnes Vikings are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Kato Ottio, 23.
James Rule, CEO of Widnes Vikings, says: We are devastated to learn that Kato Ottio has passed away this afternoon. Kato was an incredibly talented player, with a bright future ahead of him in Rugby League.
This news is all the more tragic, because Kato was due to travel to the UK this week to fulfil his dream of playing first-grade Rugby League.  We had been in regular contact with Kato and were excited to welcome a bright, excited and passionate young man, who had genuine potential for the future.
Having only learned this morning that Kato had developed a sudden health issue whilst training yesterday, we are in absolute shock to now receive this tragic news. We will be liaising closely with his loved ones to offer them our condolences and support at this difficult time. Widnes Vikings will of course be looking to celebrate Katos life and pay our sincere respects to someone who we believe would have become a hero at our Club.
Whilst we are coming to terms with this news, and still learning the full facts of this situation, we are unable to comment further at this time.
Denis Betts, Head Coach of Widnes Vikings, says: To receive this tragic news is heart-breaking. All of us saw at the World Cup the incredible gifts that Kato had, and his potential to forge a great career in Rugby League. Moreover, in all of our interactions with him, we found Kato to be a person of great character, who was excited to be following his dreams. On behalf of the coaching team, staff and players at Widnes Vikings, I would like to offer our sincere condolences to Katos loved ones.
The National Reserve Bank of Tonga is urging the public to report illegal foreign exchange dealers.
The Bank said there were shops in Tongatapu and the outer islands offering unlicensed foreign exchange services, including cash conversion.
Only dealers authorized by the Reserve Bank are allowed to move money in and out of Tonga.
Providing foreign exchange services without the required license is an offence, the Bank said.
About 12,000 Tongans work in Australia and New Zealand under seasonal employment schemes.
Gunnedah Shire Council have reached out to NSW Health to start water fluoridation process "IndyWatch Feed National"
GUNNEDAH could have fluoride in its water by 2020 after Gunnedah Shire Council (GSC) commenced the process to fluoridate the towns water supply.
The decision to accept a proposal to add fluoride to the water supply was passed in December when council resolved to write to NSW Health to commence the water fluoridation process.
GSCs infrastructure services acting director Daniel Noble said the council will continue to investigate the best way to implement the water fluoridation project.
As per council resolution, council has written to NSW Health requesting approval to commence fluoridation of the Gunnedah water supply in accordance with section six of the fluoridation of public water supplies act, Mr Noble said.
In preparation for approval, the council will continue to investigate best practice for planning and implementing the fluoridation project, and refine the planning and construction documentation required to build the fluoride dosing station and associated infrastructure.
Fluoridation of the Gunnedah water supply is expected to commence in 2020.
The news has been met with resistance by fluoride opponents, including Gunnedahs Wendy Carpenter who said the Facebook group Its ok to say no to fluoride in Gunnedahs water will continue to lobby against water fluoridation.
We will keep fighting because I know there are a lot of people who are unhappy with the decision, Mrs Carpenter said.
I think for the time being its important for us to let the dust settle and see where we exactly go from here.
We are going to keep informing people of material that is out there and helping them to see the risks of fluoride.
The Gunnedah local said the debate had started an open discussion about fluoride.
The best thing is a lot more people know about it that otherwise wouldnt have, she said.
It shouldnt be an emotive decision and I think with more discussion and sharing of facts it becomes less emotive.
PNG Government will Work to Strengthen Services Delivery Partnership with the Churches "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
The Prime Minister, Peter ONeill continued his support of the work Churches do in the communities around the country by attending the Lutheran Synod in Mogl, Chimbu Province.
We are here to show our support for the work Churches carry out in the country, the Prime Minister said.
He said recently the Lutheran Church celebrated 500 years of reform and like any government or institutions, reform is done to help strengthen peoples way of life.
Our Government is behind our Churches but want to see even greater partnership.
PNG Attorney-General Davis Steven condemns attack on Chief Justice Sir Injia "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
The Attorney-General of Papua New Guinea, Hon. Davis Steven MP, has condemned the attack on the Chief Justice, Sir Salamo Injia, by a group of men in Enga yesterday.
It is understood the motivation behind the assault was a local issue between villages, and the Attorney-General said there can be no toleration for such acts and those behind will feel the full force of the law.
"The cowardly assault on Sir Salamo Injia by an unruly mob is despicable, the Attorney-General said.
"On behalf of the Prime Minister, and the Government, we are all grateful to know that Sir Salamo is safe and I commend the police officers who provided protection.
Regardless of local motivation behind the incident, an attack on a Chief Justice is an attack on the Judiciary and our system of Government.
The State must protect this important office in the interest of the people of the country.
"Such behaviour will not be tolerated, and our police and will deal with the people involved in this incident.
I expect the perpetrators to feel the full force of law enforcement, and they will answer for their actions.
I have asked for a situation report on the matter from the Office of the Chief Justice, Police Ministry and the Secretary for National Judicial Staff Services.
Sir Salamo Injia is a leader in our Nation, he is highly respected in Papua New Guinea and around the world, and this is how he has been treated by cowards with mob mentality.
What image does this send to people around our country and to our friends around the world?
The people involved in this attack are an embarrassment to the Nation and should hang their heads in shame.
Johan Galtung
What is that American Diplomacy, after US bombing killed 3,5 million in Pyongyang in 1952 and the US Army killed 3 million in Vietnam from 1961 (Kennedy) to 30 Apr 1975 (Ford)?  Softer?
This very rich, well researched book by Michael Haasa senior, major US political scientistgives detailed softer empirical, factual answers in Part II.  Indeed, highly recommended.
In this foreword, however, I will explore US deep culture implications for US foreign policy, close to American Diplomacy.
The US self-image as successor to Israel as MFNmost favored nationby God, with Chosen People-Promised Land, CPPL, status, is from 1620, on Mayflower.
Since about Year 70 Israel clearly no longer enjoyed CPPL status; that was under King David and under King Solomon.
The position as CPPL was empty, may those with credentials apply. Puritan Pilgrims from East Anglia via Leiden in Holland, did, and according to themselves successfully so....
Australian Accused: #metoo Fall Out List Grows To 7 Men "IndyWatch Feed National"
FIRST PUBLISHED December 18, 2017: Hollywood and America are reeling and Australia is about to be. At least, thats been the growing expectation in Australian media for the last few months.
In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein revelations and the global #metoo campaign, dozens of powerful men in America have been outed as serial sexual harassers, abusers or rapists.
The dam, however, hasnt yet burst in Australia. So far, only seven men a politician, three entertainers, a lawyer, a musician and a music producer have been publicly accused of sexual misconduct, and unlike the outpouring of apologies from Hollywood, in Australia all seven of the men have so far vehemently denied the allegations levelled against them, although one has issued a partial apology for his conduct towards a 16-year-old girl.
Brief details of each case are printed below. Well keep updating this list as it inevitably grows.
EXPLAINER: The #metoo Allegations And How Media Defends Them In A Defamation Action "IndyWatch Feed National"
With fresh allegations of Australian men behaving badly, defamation law expert Hannah Marshall from Marque Lawyers explains what defamation is, and how it can be defended. And sometimes cant be.
A new day, a new sexual harassment revelation, and a new set of well-worked defamation lawyers (disclosure: including us, for NM). Weinstein, Waterstreet, Burke, Rush, McLachlan, and the rest; theyve all been defamed. The real question is whether the defamation is defensible. Enter the lawyers.
The first, best defence to a defamation claim is truth. If you can prove the truth of a defamatory article, then you win. Nothing else comes into it. The kind of truth were talking about is what you can prove in court.
Disgraced Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein.Disgraced Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein.
In a lot of the sexual harassment stories, its one persons word against anothers. In court, the judge or jury has to decide who is more believable. That means you dont know for certain whether they will believe your side of the story before you publish.
So for example in the Waterstreet story, Tina Huang provided a sworn statement detailing her experience, along with a bunch of contemporaneous emails and other messages supporting her statement. Later, when a copy of the video she was shown emerged, she provided a further sworn statement confirming that was the video that she was shown.
Googles AI Center in China: Poaching Talent "IndyWatch Feed National"
January 8, 2018 (Ulson Gunnar NEO) Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already fundamentally changing information technology and stands poised to permeate and transform technology both online and off ranging from manufacturing and transportation to medicine and military applications. The US, Russia and China have all noted that dominance in this field of technology will be an essential ingredient to holding global primacy in the near future.
What resembles a sort of arms race has emerged between prominent nations around the globe. Perhaps in an effort to provide the US with an edge, or perhaps in an effort to mitigate the impact of such an arms race, Google has opened an AI center in China.
CNN in its article, Google is opening an artificial intelligence center in China, would announce:
Despite many of its services being blocked in China, Google has chosen Beijing as the location for its first artificial intelligence research center in Asia.
The purpose of the center, according to CNN, citing Chinas desire to become a global leader in AI technology, will be to:
help China pursue its aim to become the global leader. The facility will employ a team of researchers who will be supported by engineers the company already has in China.
Considering Googles services being banned, blocked and otherwise unwelcomed in China, the question remains as to why exactly Google would seek to aid China in becoming a leader in AI technology Google itself seeks to position itself as a leader in.
This question may have been at least partially answered in a recent AI summit which included Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Googles parent company, Alphabet Inc.
World Debt Burden has Exceeded $230 Trillion "IndyWatch Feed National"
QUESTION: Mr. Armstrong; I find it interesting how you have pointed out that when it comes to public debt, the USA is actually far better than Europe or many in Asia. You also forecast that debt would begin to rise sharply from mid-2017 going into 2021. Do you have any figures to support that forecast?
NW
ANSWER: Yes of course!. The volume of global debt is rising significantly. According to the Institute of International Finance, total liabilities in the third quarter of 2017 surpassed $230 trillion (Public+Private). This is an increase of 16 trillion compared to the end of 2016. As the interest rates continue to rise, the debt servicing costs are simply going to explode. As a whole, Europe is over 100% of debt to GDP with respect to just Public Debt on average compared to the USA at about 73%. Global government public debt has exceeded $60 trillion.
This entire system is coming undone. The debt servicing is exploding as rates begin to rise. The Sovereign Debt Crisis is very much alive and well.
Climate Change As if it was Supposed to Change "IndyWatch Feed National"
QUESTION: Mr. Armstrong; Your computer has proven it can forecast markets, economies, the rise and fall of governments, war, and now even weather well in advance of anyone else. Is this bitter cold just a taste of what is to come? If so, I definitely think it is time to follow you south before you cant sell a house up here when interest rates also start to rise. Working in a bank, I know all too well as soon as there is any trouble, the lending stops. I suppose that is what you are warning about with your real estate forecasts as well.
FH
ANSWER: Unfortunately, this is the beginning of the decline. It will get worse. We are looking at a progressive period of colder weather for the first 13 years following 2015. There should be some oscillation and if there are any warm winters compared to this one, this will be an extension of the decline at least into 2032 with the more likely target off into 2045-2047. By the time this is finished, you will be willing to taxes to get global warming. The sad part of this whole mess is that the Global Warming crowd, while they are rolling around in their bed of cash rejoicing how much they made on this scam, they have led many people to their death by distracting people from the real fury of nature.
Extreme cold has reached from New England to the Midwest and down to the Carolinas, with temperatures dropping below zero. It has been in the 40s here at night in the Tampa region and it snowed a little in Tallahassee. The fatalities associated with the harsh conditions will continue to rise from drivers sliding off an icy road to the rise in disease. This will be a very dangerous rise in economic declines as well as temperature plummet during the winters ahead. Ukraine & the Next Revolution "IndyWatch Feed National"
QUESTION: Mr. Armstrong; I want to thank you for defending the Ukrainian people in their quest to overthrow the government corruption. You are a great inspiration here in Kiev. What does your model show for the success of our revolution looking ahead?
PN
ANSWER:  There are many in the West who know nothing of Ukraine and simply attribute the revolution to the CIA. I understand the disillusionment in Ukraine about these pretend analysts. They pontificate CIA and ignore that there was a real uprising of the people. Following the breakup of the Soviet Union, Ukraine endured years of corruption, mismanagement, lack of economic growth, currency devaluation, and problems in securing funding from public markets. The corruption became widespread and Yanukovichs sons were engaged in a protection racket preventing people from going into small business.
There is no other evidence of how the Ukrainian people have suffered under political corruption that has not really changed. Yanukovich was removed, but those under him are still in power and just changed their stripes. The CIA supported various politicians, but they were not capable of moving the people to rise up. Recently, the current corrupt politicians did not realize that when the government tried to arrest Mikheil Saakashvili, the ex-Georgian leader-turned Ukrainian opposition politician, the people would rally and rescue him from the police wagon freeing him. The accusations that he plotted to overthrow the government is on par with the corruption. There were those in the USA who made similar accusations about WikiLeaks.
I have a friend who lives close to where Saakashvili lived. He stood on the roof preaching to the people as the police tried to grab him. It was a real spectacle of corruption. They have also accused Saakashvili of accepting funding from an exiled Ukrainian businessman in a bid to seize power, which he denies. Thousands of people even gathered outside the courthouse after an almost-eight-hour hearing where the government tried to use the criminal process to elimi...
PERANG GAGASAN DALAM SASTRA INDONESIA "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
PERANG GAGASAN DALAM SASTRA INDONESIA
Oleh: M. Muckhlisin
Sehebat apapun ide dan gagasan dalam pikiran Anda, jika Anda tak punya kecakapan dan kejeniusan untuk menuangkannya dalam bentuk tulisan, maka ide-ide besar itu akan hilang dan lenyap, seiring dengan batas-batas usia Anda.
 Pada zaman pendudukan Jepang, para jurnalis dan sastrawan berkarya sesuai dengan koteks zamannya. Pemberontakan terhadap pendudukan Jepang sangat dominan dalam puisi-puisi Chairil Anwar yang fenomenal. Fasisme Jepang marah besar, hingga memutuskan pembentukan kantor propaganda untuk menjegal karya seniman yang dianggap membangkang. Kita bisa memahami jika pada fase ini Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana (STA) absen dan tidak menulis satu karya pun dalam bentuk sastra. Memang karya-karya STA lebih bercorak pro-Barat, serta minim nuansa perjuangan kerakyatan. Meskipun STA memiliki kecakapan yang luar biasa untuk menuangkan gagasannya dalam bentuk karya sastra.
Di era tahun 1960-an, tarik-menarik antara kubu Lembaga Kebudayaan Rakyat (Lekra) dan Manifesto Kebudayaan (Manikebu) sangat mencolok. Lekra lebih mengutamakan pendidikan kerakyatan sesuai dengan garis politik partai, sedangkan Manikebu mengacu pada perjalanan kesusastraan dunia yang sedang berkembang. Dari sisi kepentingan nasionalisme Lekra lebih menonjol, karena sesuai dengan amanat bapak bangsa bahwa kemerdekaan tahun 1945 hanyalah jembatan emas. Bangsa Indonesia harus mencapai kemerdekaan dalam pengertian yang lebih imanen dan mendalam.
Baik kubu Lekra maupun Manikebu, sama-sama membangun benteng pertahanan, bersikukuh pada pendiriannya masing-masing. Agitasi dan propaganda di bidang kesenian terus disemarakkan, seiring dengan munculnya gerakan separatisme yang merongrong kemerdekaan RI (DI/TII, PRRI Semesta dan lain-lain). Hingga tak urung, Pramoedya Ananta Toer menyatakan bahwa di negeri yang subur dan makmur ini, bom waktu kolonialisme kapan saja bisa meletus.
Meletusnya peristiwa 30 September 1965 tak lepas dari pesan-pesan yang disampaikan sastrawan yang beberapa kali masuk nominasi nobel tersebut. Sampai di kemudian hari terhimpun data-data akurat bahwa kepentingan negeri-negeri imperialisme, melalui bantuan-bantuan dana kepada kekuatan militerisme Indonesia (Angkatan Darat) tak bisa disangsikan lagi. Dalam buku Kekerasan Budaya Pasca-1965 (Wijaya Herlambang) disampaikan dengan cermat, bagaimana propaganda dan oligarki di bidang perbukuan, terlebih karya sastra, telah membuat banyak pihak kebakaran jenggot. Terutama para sastrawan sepuh yang selama ini berkarya untuk mengabdi sebagai anak-anak emas dewa kemenangan.
Pemikiran-pemikiran kaum liberal terus diproduksi dan disebarluaskan melalui media massa kapitalis. Hal demikian, untuk memisahkan kesenian yang berbasis kerak...
Sources: Bolingbrook to investigate the Clintons (Fiction) "IndyWatch Feed National"
Will the Village of Bolingbrook investigate the Clinton family?  Sources with relatives whose friends work at Village Hall say yes:
Sure the FBI is investigating the Clinton Foundation, said one source.  But we know that theyre in league with the Deep State.  Can we really trust any organization tied to them?  So were helping Trump I mean were helping bring the Clintons to justice.
There are many laws the Clintons could have broken, said another source.  Did Bill have an affair while visiting Illinois?  Thats a crime in Illinois.  There are other obscure laws in Illinois that we could get them on.  I mean discover if they violated.  The point is that there are so many crimes that the Clintons could have committed, that we cant expect Congress and the FBI to investigate them all.  It is the patriotic duty of every community to investigate the Clintons.
The sources agree that Mayor Roger Claar asked the village staff to look into Clintons ties to Bolingbrook, no matter insignificant they may seem. Though the Clintons did not make any campaign stops in Bolingbrook, Claar, the sources say, believes that there could be some inappropriate connections between some Bolingbrook residents and the Clintons.
Maybe some residents did more than vote for Clinton.  Maybe they received secret funds from the Clintons and used them to run for local office.  We cant know for sure unless we investigate.
When called, Claar answered the phone and said: He hated me and committed a crime. How is that not a hate crime?  For that matter, how can you say that my support of Donald Trump is not a creed?  A creed is a set of beliefs that guide someones actions.  Google it if you dont believe me!
In the background, a woman said: Actually, I have the Babbler on Line One.  The Herald is on Line Two.
Ill deal with you later, Claar said before hanging up.
Chelsea Clinton laughed after being asked about the alleged investigation. Ill make this quick since the board meeting is about to start.  I dont know who this Mayor Blair is.  Ive never heard of Bowling Illinois, most of the money the Clinton Foundation makes goes towards its programs, the former President is my dad, my mother won the popular vote, I have four degrees, includi...
The founding falsities of postcolonialism "IndyWatch Feed National"
In his discussion with anthropologist Philip Carl Salzman, evolutionary psychologist and YouTuber Gad Saad offers (at 8.48) the following:
By the way, in terms of generative grammar, whenever when I see the word post before anything then that raises a flag that its bullshit. So post = bullshitpostmodernismpostcolonialismpost-structuralism. So, maybe Chomsky can one day weigh in on why the introduction of post implies that we are going to generate nonsense.
As it happens, Chomsky is not a fan of postmodernism: he is too much of a member of the Enlightenment left for that.
I have been less than impressed with my encounters with postcolonialism. It seems to be based on three fundamental errors: the Marx Mistake, the Lenin Error and the Fanon Fallacy.
The Marx Mistake
Marxs conception of the state, so memorably set out in Chapter 1 of The Communist Manifesto (pdf) (1848) held that:
The executive of the modern state is but a committee for managing the common affairs of the whole bourgeoisie.
A useful (if somewhat grammatically challenged) summary-discussion of the Marxist approach to the state is here and a pithy summary is here. At its simplest, the underlying causal structure is that the production technology produces the class structure which produces the state. So that, while there is some scope for independent action by holders of state power, the class structure is prior to, and helps structure, the state.
PNG Chief Justice held up in Enga "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia was attacked in the Tsak Valley of Wapenamenda in Enga, according to Enga acting police commander Epenes Nili.
Nili told The National that Sir Salamo was returning from his Angutamanda village to Wapenamenda at midday yesterday under police escort after spending the weekend there, when the party came across a roadblock.
Another source who was with Sir Salamo confirmed the incident.
Nili said the Wapenamenda Police Station commander and his men were in front but were no match for a large group of men in what was obviously a pre-planned attack.
He said two women from Sir Salamos tribe had been accused of killing a leader from the nearby Aluni tribe recently through sanguma (sorcery).
He said his policemen were also attacked.
Nili said Sir Salamos vehicle turned back and was attacked in the process.
He said Sir Salamo returned safely to his village while police came to Wapenamenda, and with reinforcements, went and cleared roadblocks.
Nili said three of the leaders of the roadblocks were arrested but the rest fled.
My instruction to my men is that all the perpetrators must be arrested and put behind bars for attacking the chief justice, he said.
My men will not rest until those perpetrators are behind bars.
Nili said it was very unfortunate that Sir Salamo had become a victim of a sanguma accusation which was becoming prevalent in Enga.
I totally condemn the actions of these lunatics, he said.
They are wild animals who do not have any respect for the chief justice of the nation.
I call upon all local leaders to immediately hand in all those lunatics involved in this roadblock.
The source said the vehicle Sir Salamo was travelling in was badly damaged and he suffered some injuries.
He said roadblocks were set up at four places along the road between Tsak Valley and Wapenamenda specifically to trap the chief justice.
The source said Sir Salamo was safe in the village but badly traumatised by the incident.
Unmasking Malcolm: The Big 5 Policy Failures of 2017 "IndyWatch Feed National"
The myth of the moderate Malcolm Turnbull dies hard, writes Ben Eltham. Will 2018 be any different?
At the end of 2017, it was easy to think of the Turnbull government as a spent force. Given the constant state of crisis that has bedevilled politics for years now, we can be forgiven for thinking that the government is about to fall, or that Turnbull is about to be replaced.
That would be unwise. Politics is rarely predictable, and even if it were, the fact remains that the government is just 18 months into its second term. Turnbull doesnt have to call an election until late 2019. As long as he can hold his government together, Turnbull has plenty of time. The longevity of the Turnbull government is one of the stranger aspects of Australias unsettled political economy.
The Coalition has ruled since September 2013, but really it has been two different governments: Abbott and Turnbull. You need to grasp that fact to understand politics in 2018. We are not in the fifth year of a unified Coalition government. We are 27 months into the Turnbull administration.
Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott (left) and current Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott (left) and current Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
No-one could accuse the Abbott government of lacking a program: its agenda was obvious, as soon as it was elected. Commissions of Audit, massive cuts to health and education, endless culture wars, a jihad against climate science. Tony Abbott and his cabinet certainly stood for something. To their bemusement, it was a something that voters rejected.
Ever since he took office, media coverage (and to a lesser extent, popular understanding) of Malcolm Turnbulls prime ministership has been framed around wishful thinking the desire for a particular sort of prime minister, a prime minister that Turnbull has manifestly failed to be.
The idea of a small-l liberal, moderate, progressive Malcolm Turnbull has died hard in the mediascape, even as it has quickly faded in the imagination. Fawning admirers at Fairfax and the ABC fell over themselves to genuflect in front of a politician that could not help but identify with (the conservatives at News Corporation were a different matter).
Perhaps the paradigm example of the media love-in was when Turnbull ushered Annabel Crabb around the family mansion on Sydney Harbour; but there were plenty of others. When Turnbull announced his ill-fated plo...
Justice Denied: The Government Is Not Going to Save Us "IndyWatch Feed National"
The warlords of history are still kicking our heads in, and no one, not our fathers, not our Gods, is coming to save us.
Journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates,We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled: it will not hear the case of Young v. Borders.
Despite the fact that a 26-year-old man was gunned down by police who banged on the wrong door at 1:30 am, failed to identify themselves as police, and then repeatedly shot and killed the innocent homeowner who answered the door while holding a gun in self-defense, the justices of the high court refused to intervene to address police misconduct.
Although 26-year-old Andrew Scott committed no crime and never fired a single bullet or lifted his firearm against police, only to be gunned down by police who were investigating a speeding incident by engaging in a middle-of-the-night knock and talk in Scotts apartment complex, the Supreme Court refused to balance the scales between justice and injustice.
Despite the fact that police shot and killed nearly 1,000 people nationwide for the third year in a row (many of whom were unarmed, mentally ill, minors or were shot merely because militarized police who were armed to the hilt feared for their safety), the Supreme Court will not act to right the wrongs being meted out by the American police state.
Although knock-and-talk policing has become a thinly veiled, warrantlesslethalexercise by which citizens are coerced and intimidated into talking with heavily armed police who knock on their doors in the middle of the night, the Supreme Court will not make the government play by the rules of the Constitution.
The lesson to be learned: the U.S. Supreme Court will not save us.
No one is coming to save us: not the courts, not the legislatures, and not the president.
According to journalist Michael Harriot:
More people died from police violence in 2017 than the total number of U.S. soldiers killed in action around the globe (21). More people died...
PNG rugby league player Kato Ottio dies at 24 after falling ill at training "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"
Late Kato Ottio
Papua New Guinea rugby league player and NRL hopeful Kato Ottio has died at the age of 24 after suffering "a sudden health issue" in training, English club Widnes Vikings has said.Ottio spent two seasons in the Canberra Raiders system but after failing to crack the NRL squad, signed with Widnes in December.
He was expected to travel to England next week to get ready for the start of the new Super League season in February.
The Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) said Ottio passed away at Port Moresby's Pacific International Hospital at 2am this morning (local time).
PNGRFL chairman Sandis Tsaka said details of the death would be released later.
He said Ottio's body was taken to his home and would be transferred to a funeral home this morning.
The centre was part of the PNG side that lost to England in November's World Cup quarter-finals.
He was the NSWRL's leading tryscorer in 2016 while playing for Raiders feeder club the Mounties.
James Rule, chief executive officer of Widnes Vikings, said Ottio was an "incredibly talented player, with a bright future ahead of him in rugby league".
"This news is all the more tragic, because Kato was due to travel to the UK this week to fulfil his dream of playing first-grade rugby league," he told the team's official website.
"We had been in regular contact with Kato and were excited to welcome a bright, excited and passionate young man, who had genuine potential for the future.
"Widnes Vikings will of course be looking to celebrate Kato's life and pay our sincere respects to someone who we believe would have become a hero at our club."
UN group meets to discuss ISDS reform "IndyWatch Feed National"
January 9, 2018: A working group of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) recently held talks to discuss current concerns about the investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) scheme, and possible reforms. UNICTRAL is one of the two bodies which provides panels of investment law arbitrators for ISDS disputes.
According to IAReporter, based on the transcript of the proceedings, the main concerns raised by government delegations were the cost and lengthy duration of ISDS disputes, the issue of corporations failing to pay costs if awarded against them, frivolous claims by investors, inconsistent rulings and lack of transparency. Concerns were also raised about the independence and impartiality of arbitrators.
These are all issues raised by AFTINET and other civil society groups which have led some governments and the ALP, Greens and Nick Xenophon Team to oppose the inclusion of ISDS in trade agreements.
One of the biggest issues identified by some delegations was the lack of consistency in the current ISDS system. Australia, Canada and the E.U. all noted that government lawyers have had trouble interpreting treaties, and Australia admitted that in terms of providing advice internally to government on new policy initiatives it can be challenging to work out where a tribunal might come out on a particular issue.
Broadly, there were three different positions taken by delegates on the need for reform.
Some like Brazil said there was no need for investor-initiated disputes at all, and that disputes could be dealt with by government-to-government disputes processes which are part of all trade agreements.
Others including the U.S., Chile, Mexico, Russia and Japan cast doubt on the severity of problems, and argued that states can use various bilateral tools to alleviate any problems. The U.S. was joined by Russia, Korea and Israel in arguing that the non-uniform arbitration system was a positive thing, as it allowed regional specificities to be considered.
Other delegations like the E.U., Canada, Mauritius and Argentina called for multilateral solutions (such as a permanent court and an appellate mechanism). The E.U. argued that the question of consistency still remains a problem, and suggested that holistic improvements could be made to the treaty system.
There was also a focus by some on n...
The real reason Iranian protestors took to the streets: Govt's new budget, Trump's meddling in Iran's economy "IndyWatch Feed National"
When the Iranian protests broke out last Thursday, I immediately reached out to friends, family, and organizers of the Green Movement, which erupted after the 2009 stolen elections, to find out what was going on. But almost everyone I spoke to gave me the same answer: We don't know. We haven't been able to piece it together yet. We are all confused. But one person had quickly managed to put together the Persian puzzle: Donald Trump. Although it took him days to figure out what was going on in Charlottesville, Iran was a piece of cake for America's most unpresidential president. Since then, he has shot off half a dozen or so tweets purporting to support the protesters. In reality, however, the tweets seem more aimed at fanning the flames than aiding the demonstrators. There is no evidence that the protesters in Iran are taking their cues from Trump - or even paying attention to him. Unlike the 2009 protests, when some of the demonstrators called on Barack Obama to speak out against the Iranian government's brutal crackdown on peaceful protesters, no chants have been heard in Iran calling on Trump to do or say anything at all. Nor has any evidence emerged to substantiate the accusation that the protests were orchestrated from abroad. In the eyes of most Iranians, Trump has shown nothing but animosity toward the Iranian people since he took office.
