"IndyWatch Feed Qld" "IndyWatch Feed Capricornia"

On Wednesday 8 March, a pair of Australian Army Boeing CH-47F 'Foxtrot' Chinook helicopters were noted passing through Rockhampton Airport as they flew home to Townsville after being at Melbourne (Avalon) where they were on display at the just completed Australian International Airshow.

The two Chinooks were identified as A15-302 and A15-303 and are both operated by the Australian Army's 5th Aviation Regiment (5 Avn Regt) 'C' Squadron based at Townsville.

They looked to fly separately into Rocky from RAAF Base Amberley with A15-302 flying as "Fatboy 359" and A15-303 a few minutes behind as "Brahman 11".

After taking on fuel, both Chinooks departed separately from Rockhampton Airport for Townsville.

Of interest, we reported on Wednesday 22 February, that A15-302 and A15-305 were planned to head South to Avalon but it appears that A15-305 returned to Townsville with it then subsequently passing back through Rockhampton Airport on Saturday 4 5 March as one of three Chinooks (also A15-304 and A15-307) to embark on the HMAS Canberra to head to Vanuatu for Cyclone relief efforts.

It is unclear when A15-305 flew back to Townsville...

Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Boeing C-17A Globemaster III A41-210 Missed Approach at Bundaberg Airport as "Stallion 24" - Plus More! "IndyWatch Feed Qld"

On Wednesday 1 March, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Boeing C-17A Globemaster III A41-210 was noted completing a missed approach at Bundaberg Airport.

File photo

It was flying as "Stallion 24" and departed RAAF Base Amberley to fly up to complete the missed approach at Bundaberg Airport.  It then flew North to meet up with RAAF Airbus A330-200 / KC-30A Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) A39-001 "Ausy 435" which was flying from Guam to Amberley.

From near Proserpine to Gladstone the two RAAF heavies flew together but the Globemaster was then tasked by The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) to fly to a 5-metre boat with one person on board, reportedly in trouble 60 miles North-East of Rockhampton.  They flew out to it and found it anchored and not drifting then flew low around it for over an hour until LifeFlight Rescue Bell 412EP VH-XCK "Rescue 522" arrived from Bundaberg.

The Globemaster then returned to Amberley.

VH-XCK "Rescue 522" returned from there to Bundaberg Airport.

Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Airbus A330-203 / KC-30A (MRTT) A39-001 Missed Approach at Rockhampton Airport "IndyWatch Feed Capricornia"

On Friday 3 March, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Airbus A330-203 / KC-30A Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) A39-001 was noted completing a missed approach at Rockhampton Airport.

File photo

It was heard to be flying as "Dragon 30" and flew up from RAAF Base Amberley to complete the missed approach at Rockhampton Airport.  It then continued up to land at Townsville.

Later, A39-001 "Dragon 30" departed Townsville to the North to meet up with fellow RAAF KC-30A MRTT A39-006 "Dragon 35" which had earlier departed RAAF Base Tindal and flew across to a position overhead Cairns where they both then flew down together to Amberley.

Of interest, as shown in the photo above from Penang, Malaysia, taken earlier in the week shows, A39-001 has been re-painted.

On their entry to RAAF service, the KC-30A fleet initially carried a low-visibility grey colour scheme brought over from the predecessor Boeing B707 Tanker Transports. This included the aircrafts identification numbers, emergency markings, RAAF roundels and squadron insignia being applied in blue grey paint.

Difficulty with identifying individual KC-30As on the tarmac and in the air will see the existing blue-grey markings swapped with dark grey markings that have higher contrast with the light grey applied to the rest of the aircraft.

Most (if not all) of the seven RAAF KC-30As have received these new markings with the dark grey markings to be applied on each KC-30A as it comes due for scheduled repainting.

It certainly makes it a lot easier for us plane spotters to identify the KC-30A with a repaint program applying dark grey markings to the aircraft.

Was Silicon Valley Bank crashed deliberately? "IndyWatch Feed Capricornia"

By Han Barkmeyer

Its extremely interesting to note one specific fact about Joseph Gentile, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB). Gentile seems to have a history of being at the helm of ships that sink in a very dramatic fashion. In fact, his job before SVB was atLehman Brothers.
Yes. That Lehman Brothers.

Prior to joining SVB in 2007, Mr. Gentile served as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Lehman Brothers Global Investment Bank where he directed the accounting and financial needs within the Fixed Income Division.

Who is Joseph Gentile, the link between the SVB and Lehman Brothers collapses?

https://www.esquireme.com/brief/who-is-joseph-gentile-the-link-between-the-svb-and-lehman-brothers-collapses

Well, well, well, it seems the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) has brought a certain individual back into the spotlight. Joseph Gentile, the banks Chief Administrative Officer, has been making headlines due to his past involvement with Lehman Brothers, the global finance firm that famously went bankrupt during the 2008 financial crisis.

Yup, you read that right, the same guy who used to be Lehman Brothers Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is now at the center of attention in the SVB debacle.

SVB, once the premier financial institution for tech and health startup businesses in the US, has been in a rapid downward spiral since Friday, with customers starting to withdraw their deposits due to the banks investments being adversely affected by recently hiked interest rates.

Natural News:
Let there be no illusions about how this ends: The total collapse of the dollar, the banking system and the USA as we know it. Perhaps that was the plan all along.

Yes, it was the plan all along. The plan was hatched 3,300 years ago.

Mr. Gentile is obviously working for those who want to destroy America and the West.

Yet another tacit Liberal party murder confession. "IndyWatch Feed National"

The Liberal Party has made a number of tacit murder confessions in regard to Robodebt and the illegal importation of COVID-19, but the SA Division of the Liberals appears to be striving to win a glod Logie award for such confessions.

Short link to this posting:  https://wp.me/p1n8TZ-38N

In a video of 35 seconds duration, the SA Liberal Party hammers the Malinauskas Government for making ambulance ramping twice as dangerous, and potentially twice as deadly as it was under Premier Steven Marshall.

I may be wrong, but I strongly suspect that this advertisment is an admission that the Liberal Party violated the Genocide provisions in Section 268.5 (2) of the Commonwealth  Criminal Code Act (1995) and the Criminal Neglect provision in Section 14(1) of the SA criminal code:

This advertisement is 35 seconds of ultra-compelling audio-visual evidence of the fact that in Australia, politicians see themselves as being above the law when they make fatal decisions.

HOW WIERD This advert is demanding that Peter Malinauskas fix a deadly problem that the Liberal Party did not fix in 4 years of government.

Robo-debt, Welfare-Gate, COVID-GATE and Vaccine-Gate are other examples of this nasty habit of making unlawful decisions that kill people.

PLEASE SHARE MY WEB POSTING LINK WITH AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE SO THAT THEY CAN SEE THIS VIDEO BEFORE THE LIBERAL PARTY WAKES UP TO THE LEGAL IMPLICATIONS OF THIS TACIT MURDER CONFESSION AND CANCEL IT.

Population growth approaching record pace "IndyWatch Feed Qld"

Population count accelerates

Australia's population increased by 128,670 in the September 2022 quarter, implying an annual pace of around 500k per annum.

Source: ABS

The population is growing faster than previously projected, and the population clock was ratcheted up to 26,384,000.

Indeed, this implies population growth of faster than one person per minute, which is actually more like an annual population growth of 573,000 per annum.

I guess it will slow down a bit at some point.

The peak of the rush to south-east Queensland passed in the September quarter, and with more employers requiring workers back at their desks in Sydney and Melbourne with each passing week this trend will continue.

Endometriosis is a common and often painful condition where the lining of the uterus grows outside of it causing an inflammatory response, particularly around menstruation.

While the condition varies amongst individuals, it is frequently associated with pain, bloating, heavy menstruation and impacts on wellbeing and at times, fertility.

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month refocusing a lens on the chronic disease continuing to affect the lives of more than 800,000 Australian women, girls, and those who are gender diverse.

I recently found a 1956 book entitled The Magic Background of Modern Anti-Semitism: An Analysis of the German-Jewish Relationship. It was written by Adolf Leschnitzer from lectures he gave at Free University of Berlin from 1952 to 1954. He served in WWI as a German soldier and then was a history teacher in high schools until he emigrated, to escape persecution, in 1939 first to Netherlands then to England.

The theme of the book Magic Background goes like this.  For two centuries the 1200s and 1300s there was violent persecution of Jews in Germany (this book never talks about Jews elsewhere). Oddly, the cruelty lightened up during the 1500s and 1600s, the reason being that a focus on witchcraft replaced it. Then it came back again in 1800s and 1900s.

In the preface, Adolf Leschnitzer says In an...

Electricity charges are set for a steep rise "IndyWatch Feed National"

Contributed by Jim Hayes

Australians are about to pay a whole lot more for using electricity. All parties promised to put a stop to all these price rises during the last federal election campaign. The promise has been betrayed.

The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) who is supposed to keep a lid on he rises has just lifted what can be charged by electricity companies, and they have been allowed to set tiers to charge different plans with different prices in some areas. The argument given is that this will generate competition.

Expected price rises are from around 20 percent to more than 30 percent. This will add considerable financial stress to many already pressed households.

The problem with the existing price regulation system is that it relies on the belief that the market is the way to generate the best outcome. If this outcome is to deliver lower prices, it has been a total failure.

To be fair, it must be acknowledged that the Albanese government did set a price cap in October last year. This had a small and temporary positive effect. There was a little fall in prices. Unfortunately. this might be coming to an end. A bigger and longer-term solution is needed.

Images by LAVO: Ending coal power plants and shifting to renewable alternatives is part of the answer

If lower energy cost is still the objective, there must be a different approach. It is not necessary to peg to international prices, as is the case at the moment. Instead of generous subsidies to energy companies, there should be sufficient investment into cheaper and cleaner energy. Australia remains reliant on aging coal generation plants that are no longer working efficiently, and therefore raising costs. T...

Residents who were locked inside their homes while gunshots rang out through their quiet North Queensland neighborhood are speaking to counselors about their experiences.

Police Landcruiser wagon has a few holes from a centrefire rifle. This is the second such incident recently after an 18 year old girl shot two people in Toowoomba and an earlier incident in Toowoomba when a single shooter fired a rifle in a house.

Officers conducted operations from the kitchens and yards of some homes, forcing some residents to be evacuated.

The sounds of a speaker used by police to negotiate with the man could be heard by residents until the early hours of Monday morning.

The siege ended at 6.45am on Monday, when police found the 50-year-old gunman deceased inside a home.

Der Ukraine-Liveticker heute hat ein paar bemerkenswerte ... "IndyWatch Feed National"

Are You Too Late To Bitcoin? "IndyWatch Feed National"

What is the top for an immutable money that becomes the standard for humanity? Why its time to get off zero.

This is an opinion editorial by Luke Broyles, a Bitcoin content creator.

How much bitcoin does it take to get rich and fund your lifestyle? How little bitcoin does it take to protect yourself against inevitable inflation, bank runs and fiat demise? Are you too late to Bitcoin? What would a 1% allocation do?

These are questions that newbies and veterans of Bitcoin alike ask themselves and each other and, oftentimes, there isnt a clear answer.

Lets provide a solid framework to answer that question.

There Is No Top For An Immutable Money Standard

January 2009 was BTC's first price prediction. Hal Finney predicted that bitcoin could become the global-dominant payment system, or $10 million per coin (Finneys calculation would be closer to $40 million today). But bitcoin would not surpass $1.00 until April 2011... Over two full years later.

Source

What Finney understood is that upon the invention of perfect money all global wealth would inevitably consolidate into it. Henry Ford, Nikola Tesla and others also foresaw this.

A closed (monetary) system inevitably absorbs all open (productivity) systems. Money is the technology that prices everything else within its own ledger. There is no "top" price prediction for an immutable monetary standard of the human race, the standard.

Source: Author

Its About Purchasing Power, Not Price

So, a better way to think of bitcoin's value is not in price, but in purchasing power. Overlaying a share of monetary stock with a given amount of productivity (or economic value) is a better way to predict the money's value. Its worth noting that in a finite ledger, wealth inequality as we know it today does the reverse as we expect today (a topic for another...

How to Prepare Your Staff for an Office Fit Out "IndyWatch Feed National"

Are you planning an office refit? If so, youre probably excited about the changes it will bring for your staff and for the company as a whole. But before the work begins, its vital that you take the time to prepare your staff for the transition.

Its important to understand that an office fit-out is a process thats going to affect a significant number of people in different ways. In order to ensure a successful transition, its important to get as many people on the same page as possible.

Having a clear plan in place can help ensure that everyone is on board and ready for what lies ahead.

Here are some tips to help you prepare your staff and make sure everything goes smoothly during an office fit-out.

  1. Explain the Purpose of an Office Fit Out
Informing staff about any changes, renovations, or installation of furniture before they happen helps reduce disruption, leads to better morale from the staff, and allows all necessary resources to be efficiently allocated ahead of time.

Additionally, it might also help to explain to your staff why youre having an office fit out in the first place. Is the company downsizing? Is the old layout outdated or impractical? Explaining the purpose of the fit-out might help your staff understand the decision and alleviate any concerns associated with the project.

  2. Outline Any Safety Protocols and Procedures that Must be Followed
As the employer, you will need to outline safety protocols and procedures for all staff members that may be affected during or after the fit out. These should include sufficient training requirements along with policies concerning wearing protective clothing and equipment such as hard hats and boots. Staff also need to know where obstacles may be present as well as any site-specific risks that must be assessed and monitored throughout the process.

Additionally, ensure staff are familiar with all fire prevention measures so they can safely evacuate should an emergency arise. Following these steps will ensure both staff safety and adherence to directives which may help minimise liabilities during the entire office fit out process.

  3. Detail Any New Policies or Processes That May Need to be Implemented
The team should also receive notices about any challenges that might arise during construction. This might include notices about construction noise or restricted access to certain areas of the building. Communication needs to remain open throughout this time so that staff can voice their concerns and be informed of progress updates.

Additionally, a detailed schedule should be put in place to...

(Reposted from .)

Two people in particular are suffering persecution today because they dared to expose war crimes. Julian Assange released material including a video of the Baghdad airstrike which killed two Reuters journalists and other civilians, and ADF Major David McBride gave the ABC information about alleged war crimes in Afghanistan. David will be in court on the day to learn the date of commencement of his trial after 4 years!

We have a great line up of speakers

Dr Monique Ryan MP, Major David McBride, Senator David Shoebridge, Lawyer and survivor of a political prosecution, Bernard Collaery, Dr Sue Wareham, President of MAPW, GetUp CEO. Larissa Baldwin-Roberts and CBA whistleblower, Jeff Morris. Co Convenor of AAPP, Craig Andrews will MC the rally.

The wars on Iraq and Afghanistan resulted in the deaths of many hundreds of thousands of people, as well as injuring or displacing millions more. The wars caused widespread environmental destruction.

Join us to call on the Australian government to:

bring Assange home

drop the charges against McBride, and

SAY NO TO WAR ON CHINA.

Please come along to support David McBride and Julian Assange and to express horror that the countries which were responsible for so much heartbreak in Iraq and Afghanistan are bent on engaging in another war.

Bank collapse in US could cause bail-ins in Australia "IndyWatch Feed Capricornia"

(Natural News) Three US banks collapsed last week (Silvergate, Silicon Valley Bank and Signature). Contagion took hold and quickly began to spread to other banks.

The entire US banking system would have collapsed starting today if not for the FDIC jumping in and offering to rescue even non-insured depositors at SVB. Normally the FDIC covers only $250K in deposits per person or institution. To try to avert a total systemic collapse, they announced in an emergency session yesterday that they would cover all deposits for these banks.

The problem is that the FDIC only had slightly over $100 billion in funds to carry this out.

Yet the total bank deposits held across America are approaching $10 trillion. (Nearly 10,000 billion.)

In effect, the FDIC only has enough funds to cover about 1% of bank deposits in America.

Even worse, banks in America have over $300 trillion in derivatives liabilities. Thats thirty times larger than the $10 trillion in deposits. The FDIC has only a tiny fraction of a fraction to even think about covering these losses, should derivatives begin to unwind.

The claim that the FDIC is bailing out depositors without using taxpayer money is a lie

Mathematically, what all this means is that the Treasury and Fed are going to have to print money to prop up failing banks, especially as contagion spreads and more banks crater as the Fed raises interest rates a kind of controlled demolition of the US economy and stock market.

This is going to dilute the value of dollars and cause huge inflation increases across all the products you normally buy, such as groceries, housing, clothing, fuel and so on.

All this printed money is created as debt on the shoulders of US taxpayers, and the government will move to confiscate more and more money from the American people to try to shore up the financial nightmare that it created. Joe Biden is already pushing much higher taxes, even as the USA is on track (with new spending programs) to hit over $50 trillion in national debt by 2030.

Let there be no illusions about how this ends: The total collapse of the dollar, the banking system and the USA as we know it.

Perhaps that was the plan all along.

Mending a broken Heart "IndyWatch Feed Capricornia"

New advances in 3D printing and stem cell technology has the potential to fix up hearts after damage from heart attacks.

This would obviate the need for high-risk heart transplants in many cases, as effectively new heart material can be generated to fit into the part that has been damaged.

The stem cell technology prevents the rejection problems with heart transplants, as the body does not reject the new heart patch.

Polls predict narrow Labor win "IndyWatch Feed Capricornia"

Polls leading up to the New South Wales state election are suggesting a Labor victory under a hung parliament, calling into question, who will Chris Minns need to deal with to form government.

The leader of the opposition has made it clear that he will not be affording the Greens party special deals or parliamentary positions in order to form government.

The already large cross-bench is also expected to grow, providing opportunity for Labor to form government without the Greens assistance.

Australian Beaches Cleaned Significantly Through Waste Control Strategies "IndyWatch Feed National"

Newsroom

People oftentimes visit Australia not just to get a taste of the city, but to enjoy the beaches as well. In fact, thousands of visitors flock to the waters and watch as surfers ride the waves while others simply sunbathe.

However, with tourism also comes waste. People dont oftentimes think about the trash they leave behind. Theyre simply there to enjoy, without a care in the world. As a result, some parts of the beaches have been littered with so much plastic.

A recent scientific survey was conducted and when this was completed, researchers found that plastic on Australian beaches has fallen by 29 percent since they did the previous survey in 2013. They were impressed at what they found.

The authors of the study give credit to the well-executed and locally focused waste control strategies. They say that this is what Australians can achieve if they just put their heads together, and this may be something that the rest of the world could follow.

The efforts had been organized by the Australian national science agency. And for this y...

Pentagon Drones Gather Data for Kievs Future Strikes on Russia Ambassador to US

Anatoly Antonov quoted US National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby as saying that US UAVs make these kinds of overflights on a daily basis

AP Photo/Michael Sohn

WASHINGTON, March 15. /TASS/. US drones are collecting reconnaissance data to be used by the Kiev forces for their future strikes on the Russian territory and Russian troops, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov has said.

"The unacceptable actions of the United States military in the close proximity to our borders are cause for concern. We are well aware of the missions such reconnaissance and strike drones are used for," the ambassador was quoted as saying in a communique, issued in connection with Tuesdays US MQ-9 Reaper drones crash in the Black Sea.

The Russian diplomat quoted US National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby as saying that US UAVs make these kinds of overflights on a daily basis.

"What do they do thousands of miles away from the United States? The answer is obvious - they gather intelligence which is later used by the Kiev regime to attack our armed forces and territory," Antonov said.

"We proceed from the fact that the United States will refrain from further speculations in the media landscape and stop making sorties near the Russian borders," he added.

Establishment of the US Department of Defence All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office "IndyWatch Feed National"

Media release

On 20 July 2022, the U.S. Department of Defense published a media release titled "DoD Announces the Establishment of the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office." The text of the release reads:

"On July 15, 2022, Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks, in coordination with the Director of National Intelligence [DNI], amended her original direction to the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security by renaming and expanding the scope of the Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group [AOIMSG] to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office [AARO], due to the enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2022, which included a provision to establish an office, in coordination with DNI, with responsibilities that were broader than those originally assigned to the AOIMSG.

Today, USD (I&S) Hon Ronald S.  Moultrie informed the department of the establishment of AARO within the office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security, and named Dr. Sean M. Putin Lambasts Version on Pipeline Blast by Ukrainian Activists

The explosion of such kind, with such power and at such depth, could only be made by specialists, supported by the whole might of a state having certain technologies, Russian President noted

ULAN-UDE, March 14. /TASS/. Statements that the terrorist act at Nord Stream pipelines was committed by certain Ukrainian activists not affiliated with official Kiev are downright nonsense, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview on Tuesday.

"I am confident this is utter nonsense," the President noted in a comment on publications offering such version.

"The explosion of such kind, with such power and at such depth, could only be made by specialists, supported by the whole might of a state having certain technologies, Putin noted. "Certainly," the Russian leader said, answering the question whether it can be assumed that exactly the Western countries committed the blast.

"One should always look for those having the interest. Who was interested? Theoretically the United States is certainly interested - to halt supplies of Russian energy resources to the European market and deliver volumes of its natural gas, particularly liquefied, even if it is much more expensive - by 25-30% - than Russian one," Putin said.

EXPOSED! Police officer LIES to driver on national television "IndyWatch Feed National"

Don't trust this cop on his tormenting rant on driver licence possession.

In the colony Australia the police lie to the people every single day.

They lie in the courts and on the streets.

Its up to you to not just catch them out but most importantly, hold them accountable.

This is an excerpt from a longer video (available on liabilitymate), where the focus is on the police officers words and not the drivers arguments.

The Victorian police officer clearly states:

Theres been a traffic offence committed, right? And you are required in Victoria when you commit a traffic offence to give me you name and address and produce your licence.

First and foremost is that a police officer alleges that he saw a traffic offence being committed, where it's up to the courts to enforce the law, should you chose not to accept the alleged

He must also caution the driver of a legal action referred to in the U.S as the Miranda warning, which is also applicable here in Australia.

When you hold a driver licence, you are required to state your name, address DoB (Date of Birth) and thats it.

ANY other question asked by the officer, you have the right not to self incriminate and it is to your benefit that you do not answer any other questions, not matter how 'enticing' the may be, as they are actually entrapment.

Govt committee in Pakistan lets plagiarizing vice-chancellor off the hook "IndyWatch Feed National"

Muhammad Suleman Tahir

A government expert committee in Pakistan last year cleared a university vice-chancellor of plagiarism charges based on inconsistent claims of ignorance, Retraction Watch has learned.

The committee, which was convened by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), also appears to have flouted rules that would have held the vice-chancellor responsible even if he had no knowledge of any plagiarism committed by work under his supervision. HEC funds and oversees higher education in Pakistan.

This sends the wrong message to the academic community and undermines the credibility of the HEC, Farukh Iqbal, who brought the charges, told Retraction Watch.

The case seemed simple enough at first. But it has since spiraled into a saga that may reveal as much about the value of political muscle in Pakistan as it does about academic dishonesty.

In October 2020, Iqbal was working toward a PhD in chemical engineering at RMIT University in Australia when he noticed a new paper in the journal Fuel that looked familiar. The authors, it turned out, had lifted heavily from Iqbals 2017 masters thesis, as we reported in 2021.

Iqbal complained to both the HEC and Fuel. The journal investigated and found that Iqbals work had indeed been plagiarized. It pulled the paper in June 2021. (The retraction notice mistakenly refers to a PhD thesis.)

That same month, however, the first author of the retracted paper, Vice-chancellor...

Anthony Albanese goes to the United States and plays the sycophant "IndyWatch Feed National"

Anthony Albaneses performance in San Diego was an embarrassment. Surely, he could have at least pretended to be other than a fawning puppet of the United States. Standing up as a leader with his own mind and a little independence would have won respect. The cringe worthy performance failed to do this. Many expected much better from a government they expected to turn away from the foreign policy of the Scott Morrison era. They are left disappointed.

The Australian Prime Minister joined US president Joe Biden and British Prime Minister rishi Sunak. These are the three countries joined in the AUKUS alliance, and it has been clear from who is calling the shots from the start. This has now been confirmed. Biden made it clear that hat his words that the purpose is to ensure the Indo-Pacific is kept free and open. This is code for maintaining the two oceans as United States spheres of influence and control. Sunak and Albanese played second fiddle.

Photo by Leah Millis/Reuters: U.S. President Joe Biden meets with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, at Naval Base Point Loma in San Diego, California

Australia has signed up for the stationing of a fleet of nuclear submarines and expanding the number of United States military personnel on Australian soil and this has nothing to do with the defence of Australia. If this had been the case, equipping the Australian Defence Force would have taken a different form. It would not be based on the means to fight overseas, which is exactly what the submarines and the military alliance is all about.

The cost has of the submarines already blown out to $368 billion and likely to blow out much more before they are delivered sometime after 2030. This will impose a considerable cost on the Australian government and economy. Investment that could have been used for more useful purposes will be directed down this black hole.

If the truth were told, it would be said that these submarines will not really be Australian. They will remain under Washingtons command, while Australia gets saddled with the bill. The expanded port in Western Australia will become an American facility. The promised small arms and military supp...

On at least four occasions since 2019, Elon Musk has predicted that his medical device company, Neuralink, would soon start human trials of a revolutionary brain implant to treat intractable conditions such as paralysis and blindness. Yet the company, founded in 2016, didn't seek permission from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) until early 2022 and the agency rejected the application. Musk has detailed a bold vision for Neuralink: Both disabled and healthy people will pop into neighborhood facilities for speedy surgical insertions of devices with functions ranging from curing obesity, autism, depression or schizophrenia to web-surfing and telepathy. Musk also has said Neuralink would restore full mobility to paralyzed patients. Reuters exclusively reported late last year that the federal government was investigating the company's treatment of its research animals. The probe was launched amid growing employee concern that the company is rushing experiments, causing additional suffering and deaths of pigs, sheep and monkeys. Musk's company ... trails at least one direct rival in the race for FDA approval. Synchron, a competitor making a BCI implant, has won the agency's blessing for human trials. The company first tested its device on four patients in Australia who successfully sent text messages with their minds. Synchron recently raised $75 million, including from funds backed by tech billionaires Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos.

It has been over a month since an armed group abducted Phillip Merthens, a New Zealand-born pilot, on February 7, 2023, in Indonesias Nduga, West Papua. The group is the West Papua Liberation Army. Known by the acronym TPNPB, its an armed wing of the Papua Liberation Movement (OPM).

As local media reported, TPNPB, led by Egianus Kogoya, a local commander, stormed the Susi Air small plane after it landed, set it afire and took the pilot hostage. TPNPB then brought him to its stronghold area where it would use him as its political leverage. The military and police still have no clue where TPNPB is hiding the pilot, mostly due to terrain difficulties.

However, the military has swept into villages to gain information about the armed groups whereabouts. Intimidated, some Papuans have fled their villages in Nduga and Lanny Jaya regencies. Following the kidnapping, a deadly riot erupted, and most recently, armed confrontations between the group and the security forces have killed both civilians and soldiers in Yahukimo and Puncak regencies.

Its clear from all of this that there is no end in sight for the intensified hostilities that have plagued West Papua over the past six years. Yet the reality is that none of this is surprising.

To understand this increasing escalation, its vital to look at the failures of successive Indonesian governments in responding to the crisis.

The central government focuses more on addressing the effects than the causes of the conflict. Its counterinsurgency policies whether development programs, a special autonomy for the region or out-and-out military operations are aimed at reducing Indigenous discontent and violent attacks from the TPNPB to controllable levels. There has not been a sincere political process between the central government, Indigenous Papuans, and nationalist groups in West Papua.

Thats why these policies have met with distrust among Indigenous Papuans, even as the TPNPB armed group has developed more deadly capacity to attack civilians an.....

Heavy rainfall from New Zealands Cyclone Gabrielle more common on warmer planet "IndyWatch Feed Qld"

Heavy rainfall events comparable to the intense downpour that hit New Zealand in February 2023 during Cyclone Gabrielle are four times more frequent in todays climate, a new rapid-attribution study finds.

Cyclone Gabrielle made history as the costliest tropical cyclone in the southern hemisphere, causing more than $8bn in damages. At least 11 people died when the cyclone swept across New Zealand in February 2023.

Te Tairwhiti (Gisborne) and Te Matau-a-Mui (Hawkes Bay) were the epicentre of devastation. The World Weather Attribution service investigates the extreme rainfall that hit this region over 13-14 February. Their scientists could not determine how much more likely or intense this particular extreme rainfall event was as a result of climate change.

However, the authors conclude that such extreme rainfall events now produce 30% more rain than they used to. Furthermore, they find that rainfall events on this scale are four times more likely to happen in todays climate than before humans warmed the planet, with a roughly 3% chance of happening in a given year.

Cyclone Gabrielle

In early February 2023, a tropical low pressure system formed in the Pacific Ocean and began moving westwards, where warm temperatures and favourable atmospheric conditions allowed it to intensify. On 8 February 2023, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology named the system Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle.

Dr Luke Harrington a senior lecturer in environmental science at the University of Waikato and an author on the study described the path of the cyclone to a press briefing. He notes that the system was category 2 when it was named and reached category 3 status by 10 February.

Thankfully we have a predicted 100 years until we will need technology like DART, but The International Asteroid Warning Network (IAWN) is meeting in Vienna next month to discuss the next steps of a planetary defense plan.

CEO Survey highlights positive outlook for Papua New Guinea business "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"

The results of this years PNG 100 CEO Survey point to heightened profit, investment and recruitment expectations among Papua New Guineas largest businesses. However, the lack of availability of foreign exchange is nominated as the top impediment facing business.

CEO SURVEY

Since 2012, the data collected for the PNG 100 CEO Survey has revealed trends in business confidence in Papua New Guinea. The survey is run by Business Advantage PNG in association with Westpac. Credit: Pixabay

The results of the new PNG 100 CEO Survey, released today, reveal a significant rise in the confidence of Papua New Guineas leading businesses.

First, Business Advantage PNG asks the CEOs of PNGs top companies how profits were last year, against their expectations.

For the first time since 2019, no CEOs expected their profits to be substantially lower this year than last.

Overall, around half of respondents (49 per cent) said their profits were higher than expected in 2022.

This group was divided into around 19 per cent who reported profits greatly exceeded their expectations and around 30 per cent who said profits slightly exceeded expectations.

Another 27 per cent said profits had met expectations.

Meanwhile, 19 per cent reported profits fell slightly short of expectations in 2022.

Only 5.41 per cent of respondents reported profits substantially short of expectations (last year, it was 2.78 per cent). By contrast, this figure was 35 per cent back in 2021, when CEOs expected COVID-induced disruptions to drag profits substantially lower.

The 2023 PNG 100 CEO Survey charts a lift in business optimism for profits, investment and, in particular, employment.

While this sets a positive tone for the year, the survey continues to highlight the ongoing difficulties PNG firms face accessing foreign exchange (forex), the unreliability of telecoms services and the problems with security/law and order.

Concern for inflation has lifted to a level not seen since 2013. However, with global inflation already showing signs of moderating and the kina holding firm, it is likely that inflation in PNG is close to a peak.

Profit, investment and recruitment expectations have improved, with recruitment sentiment at a record high.

Never again response to Covid-19 pandemic profiteering, world figures warn "IndyWatch Feed National"

Tuesday, March 14, 2023: The Peoples Vaccine Alliance issued a letter by 204 eminent global figures on March 11, the third anniversary of the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO), calling for governments to act in four ways:

  • Support a Pandemic Accord at the WHO that embeds equity and human rights in pandemic preparedness and response. To do so, it must commit governments to waive relevant intellectual property rules automatically and ensure the sharing of medical technology and knowledge when a Public Health Emergency of International Concern is declared.
  • Invest in scientific innovation and manufacturing capacity in the Global South through projects like the mRNA Technology Transfer Hub established by WHO and partners. Governments, companies, and international institutions should provide political, financial, and technical support to these initiatives to maximise production and supply for all.
  • Invest in global common goods. Public funding delivered miracles in the COVID-19 pandemic. But publicly financed medical innovations should be used to maximise the public benefit, not private profits. They should not be locked behind patents. All governments should invest more in public research and development, and place strict requirements for publicly funded medical technologies developing from that investment to be affordable and accessible to everyone, everywhere.
  • Remove the intellectual property barriers that prevent knowledge and technology sharing. Governments at the World Trade Organization (WTO) took too long and did too little to address this barrier for COVID-19 vaccines. WTO members should move to approve an intellectual property waiver for COVID-19-related vaccines and extend that decision to cover COVID-19 tests and treatments.

The Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz, former first lady of South Africa and Mozambique Graa Machel, former UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon, East Timor President Jose Ramos Horta, and Helen Clark, former Prime Minister of New Zealand, are among the signatories who called on governments to never again allow profiteering and nationalism to come before the needs of humanity, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

These current and former presidents and ministers, Nobel laureates, faith leaders, heads of civil society organisations and health experts say Covid-19 vaccines and treatments had been developed with public fun...

Cashless system not going well for besieged Cairns council "IndyWatch Feed Capricornia"

Cairns Regional Council is under fire from ratepayers for introducing cashless payments for some council services.

A petition containing 1500 signatures has been presented to the council CEO demanding cash payments be restored.

Mooroobool ratepayer Frankie Hogan who gathered the signatures told the Cairns Post the decision to go cashless was discriminatory, impacts the vulnerable and was controlling.

A lot of people are not happy about it. I meet elderly people who tell me I only use cash, Ms Hogan said.

Council need to realise we the people want to keep cash in society.

A separate online petition to keep using cash for council services has gained 1000 signatures.

Cairns councilor Brett Olds said the decision to go cashless was made by un-elected operational staff and had nothing to do with the council.

It beggars belief that a controversial move like this would be made at operational level and not voted on by the elected council, without proper community consultation, he said.

We work for the people of Cairns, we dont lord over them.

This saga, removing legal tender from the hands of the people, does not augur well for the federal Labor and Liberal parties which have been manouvering in the background for several years to get rid of cash.

Rental relief in the regions "IndyWatch Feed Qld"

City rentals tighten

SQM Research reported today an increase in rental vacancy rates in Darwin, Canberra, Hobart, as well as many regional locations, as the long tail of the dwelling construction pipeline delivered some welcome relief to tenants.

There were significant increases in rental vacancy rates in many parts of regional Australia: Gold Coast, Mornington Peninsula, and the Blue Mountains, for example.

On the other hand there were sharp declines to very tight levels in CBD vacancy rates for Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, as international students rushed back to Australia.

Overall, there is likely to be ongoing pressure in the rental markets of the larger capital cities as students return and as employers increasingly require employees to be back in the office.

Indeed there was no respite for renters in the largest capitals, with asking rents for units rising nearly 9 per cent in Sydney and Melbourne over the past quarter, while Brisbane wasn't far behind.

US congress votes against ending occupation of Syria "IndyWatch Feed National"

The following article appeared on the news desk of The Cradle on 9 March 2023. Th ongoing occupation of roughly a third of Syria continues the unjust and illegal occupation of another country by that which sponsored ISIS and other terror groups, and in the name of combatting them. The occupation is really about geopolitical control and access to resources by a nation trying to build its empire. Congress voted against a bill that would put an end to the occupation.

A War Powers Resolution that would have ended the US armys illegal occupation of Syria was struck down late on 8 March by the House of Representatives in a 103-321 vote.

The bill, introduced late last month by Republican Matt Gaetz, garnered the support of 47 Republicans and 56 Democrats including several members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC).

US House votes against occupation troops pull out from Syria

Video from Al Mayadeen English

There is no role for the United States of America in Syria. We are not a Middle Eastern power. We have tried to build a democracy out of sand, blood, and Arab militias. Time and again, the work we do does not reduce chaos. Oftentimes, it causes chaos the very chaos that then subsequently leads to terrorism. While todays vote may have failed, my fight to end forever wars and bring our troops home has only just begun, Gaetz said in a statement following the vote.

We have to also acknowledge Syria and Iraq are the two countries on the planet Earth where we have done the most to fund ISIS. We give weapons to these so-called moderate rebels, Gaetz continued, referring to Washingtons policy to arm rebel groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda.

Seemacht EU "IndyWatch Feed National"

NSW Police Falsely Claimed that Violet Coco Blocked an Ambulance "IndyWatch Feed National"

good cross-section of NSW civil society was appalled when Violet Coco was sentenced to 15 months prison time last December, in relation to her taking part in a Fireproof Australia action that blocked one lane just one lane of the Sydney Harbour Bridge for 25 minutes last April.

During the hearing, NSW police argued that Coco and the three other Fireproof Australia activists conducting the nonviolent direct action to warn of the escalating climate crisis had blocked an ambulance trying to get across this bridge with its lights and sirens on responding to an emergency.

At the time, there had been an uptick in nonviolent climate action in Sydney, much of which involved road blockages, with the chief argument against these protests put by AM radio shock jocks and conservative politicians being they could block an ambulance responding to an emergency.

So, it was quite convenient that an ambulance had been put out by this action, as it served to validate the opposing position, just after the Perrottet government had rolled out its harsh antiprotest laws, while prominent climate defender Violet Coco was putting her liberty on the line.

But on Tuesday, when two fellow Fireproof activists, Alan Glover and Karen Fitz-Gibbon, went before Downing Centre Local Court, the NSW Police Force withdrew its false allegation that an ambulance had been blocked by their Harbour Bridge action, which has clear implications for C...

Policewomen in PNG Encouraged to rise, Overcome and embrace equity "IndyWatch Feed Niugini"

Policewomen in Papua New Guinea have been encouraged to embrace equity as part of their future to contribute to developing a world that is diverse, equitable and inclusive.

The encouragement was made by the Acting Commander of the Papua New Guinea Australia Policing Partnership (PNGAPP) Superintendent Brett Kidner in his opening remarks at the International Womens Day (IWD) observation last week. IWD is a global event celebrated for social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It started in the early 1900s stemming from the fights for equal rights by women in the United States.

Since the first official IWD in 1911, the movement has grown to be truly a global event with focused themes every year to complement the ongoing global battles to achieve equal pay, equal economic opportunities, equal legal rights, reproductive rights, subsidised childcare and prevention of violence against women and girls.

Superintendent Kidner told a captive audience of policewomen and women representatives from various stakeholders in Port Moresby last Wednesday that a gender responsive approach to innovation, technology and digital education can increase the capacity of women and girls who can contribute to the advancements in digital technology progressing achievements to address developmental and humanitarian challenges.

He said with this years theme Embrace Equity, part of the focus will be to explore the impacts of digital gender gap which is creating social inequalities and highlight the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls in the digital space.

Superintendent Kidner thanked the men who attended the event to show their support for women and girls.

Reflect on your past, acknowledge your present and embrace equity as part of your future to contribute to developing a world that is diverse, equitable and inclusive, Mr Kidner said...

Who would want this? "IndyWatch Feed National"

Also, where is Ray Comfort getting the money?

Thats a box full of crap you can get for free from LivingWaters/london. Just fill out the form at that link, giving Ray Comfort your address, and he will ship up to ten boxes of his book and Bible tracts about the coronation.

You could have a thousand copies of Rays book and six thousand cheesy tracts delivered to your doorstep, totally free. Unless youre in the UK, EU, Australia, or New Zealand, in which case you dont get the books, just 10,000 cheesy tracts. Or if youre outside those countries, you get nothing, and will have to pick up your free tracts in person in London.

From this I have determined that Canada is truly blessed.

I thought about ordering a box, just to bleed a few drops from the bloated vampiric corpse of Ray Comforts unaccountably rich organization, but decided not to. My reasons: a) its not enough to exsanguinate the parasite, b) it would just encourage him, c) its incredibly wasteful and would just have to be recycled, and d) I dont want to read his stupid book (Ive read enough Comfort to know it will be awful), I dont want his tracts, and I dont need a box of waste paper in my house. The man is giving away free garbage, and that does not appeal.

I still have to wonder, though: does ol Ray have some multi-millionaire sugar daddy? Or does he get so much in donations from a horde of deluded Christians that he can afford these ridiculous give-aways? Does he pay taxes on all of his revenues that he then spends on evangelical nonsense?

By the way, Ray Comfort is very, very excited about the coronationbut hes not going to bother to go himself. He wants his minions to do the humiliating work of distributing his crap to all the people who dont want it in London.

Were a target. What to do? "IndyWatch Feed Qld"

Australians should take special heed of the analysis of the noted defence strategist Peter Jennings and then draw the exact opposite conclusion from his about what should be done.

Jennings, who for 10 years was executive director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute and was a deputy secretary of the Department of Defence, was one of five defence experts lined up by The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age in a series titled Red Alert. Its aim was to provide a more public discussion about Australias defence needs than what will come out of the secretive Defence Strategic Review. And it was widely taken up by other media.

The fives conclusion was to expect war with China sooner rather than later because China was determined to take over Taiwan by force if necessary. The US would then move militarily to defend Taiwan and Australia would have to join in.

Jennings pointed out that in the first 72 hours China could fire missiles (with or without nuclear warheads) on the naval fleet bases in Sydney and Perth, on RAAF bases near Brisbane and Darwin, and on communications bases near Alice Springs and Exmouth, among other targets.

The five concluded that war with China was almost inevitable and Australia needed an urgent massive upgrade and spend on its military and must maintain and strengthen its alliance with the US.

Those conclusions defy logic. Surely if Australian cities are going to be bombed because we are mad enough to follow the US blindly into a conflict which has nothing to do with us, the better course of action would be not to follow the US into that war and to loosen the ties with the US so that Australia could have its own defence policy and aims.

And the main aim should be to avoid war.

Lets take a cold hard look at Taiwan. Like most Australians, I like democracy and Taiwan is democratic. But I would rather see Taiwan go under the communist yoke than see Australian cities bombed possibly with nuclear weapons (think Hiroshima and picture Sydney looking like that destroyed city in 1945).

We should look at the aims of the US, Austr...

The Myth of Fair Value "IndyWatch Feed National"

QUESTION: If the metals are not trading at a fair value relative to everything else, then does that not prove they are manipulated?

SN

ANSWER: Your problem is the assumption that everything must be trading at some fair value. That is up there with the theory of random walks.  ALL markets trade for periods where they remain well below fair value. That was the entire takeover boom of the 1980s which they also blamed on me because I was advising many of the takeover players. I simply showed these charts back then which show in terms of book value, the Dow Jones bottomed in 1977. The market was grossly undervalued because you could buy a company, sell all its tangible assets, and double or triple your money. Michael Douglas famous speech in that movie about greed would not even be possible if everything always trade like some mythical robot at fair value. Everything overshoots and undershoots.

The Metals Are Not Manipulated "IndyWatch Feed National"

This latest affair of so-called manipulating trades during the day proves what you have been saying. They have always been gunning for stops during the day, but they cannot manipulate the trend between a bull or bear market. Do you think people will ever understand this is a global economy?

Health Officials Caught Deploying Fear and Staging Coverup "IndyWatch Feed National"

In January 2022, House Oversight Committee Republicans released a batch of emails sent to and from the National Institutes of Health (NIH),1,2,3 showing that scientists in the earliest days of the pandemic strongly suspected SARS-CoV-2 was a genetically engineered virus.

The correspondence also revealed that NIH leaders Dr. Anthony Fauci and then-NIH chief Dr. Francis Collins were nervous about the possibility that they'd funded the creation of this virus and were determined to suppress questions about its origin.

Fauci, Collins and at least 11 scientists convened for a conference call February 1, 2020, during which they discussed the evidence for genetic manipulation. Yet, no more than three days later, by February 4, four of the participants had already drafted a paper titled "The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2," in which they dismissed the possibility of a lab origin for the virus.

One of the authors of this paper, Kristian Andersen, Ph.D., a professor at Scripps Research, has so far insisted that Fauci did not attempt to influence the working group's conclusions.

In a letter to Sens. James Comer and Jim Jordan, Scripps Research answering questions on Andersen's behalf claimed that Andersen "objectively weighted all the evidence available to him." In a March 5, 2023, memorandum,4,5 the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic laid out evidence showing that this assertion is "demonstrably false."

According to the Select Subcommittee, the evidence available clearly shows that Fauci did indeed prompt Andersen to write "Proximal Origin," and for a specific reason, namely to "disprove" the lab leak theory. "The authors of this paper skewed available evidence to achieve that goal," the Subcommittee writes.

As noted in the memorandum,6 in a February 8, 2020, email, Andersen stated: "Our main work over the last couple of weeks has been focused on trying to disprove any type of lab theory " Furthermore, in a February 12 email to the journal Nature, Andersen openly and clearly admitted Fauci's and Collins' influence:7

News Desk Mutilation Victim
11 March 2023

Jayapura, Jubi Executive Director of Amnesty International Indonesia Usman Hamid has called on the security forces to immediately investigate the reported case of a mother, Tarina Murib, who was shot dead and mutilated after a firefight between the security forces and a pro-independence Papuan group on March 3, 2023 in Yugumoak District, Puncak Regency.

Do not draw conclusions before a thorough investigation according to the procedures, he told Jubi via WhatsApp message service on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

Hamid also condemned violent acts and attacks on civilians in Central Papua that took the lives of women and children.

Acts of violence involving the security forces and Papuan pro-independence group will not bring any results other than increasing casualties, including among civilians, he said.

He expressed his deepest condolences to the family of Tarina Murib.

We also sympathize with other civilians who were injured after a firefight between members of the Indonesian Military [TNI] and pro-independence group in Puncak Regency, Central Papua, he said. (*)

Papuan separatists attack another civilian aircraft: Police
6 hours ago

Agats, Papua (ANTARA) A Trigana Air plane was shot at by members of an armed Papuan separatist group on Saturday, according to Jayapura Police chief, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Fredrickus W.A. Maclarimboen.

The shooting occurred shortly after the plane took off from Dekai Airport in Yahukimo district, Papua Pegunungan province, Maclarimboen told ANTARA.

He, however, did not provide any details on the impact of the shooting on the aircraft.

ANTARA has reported earlier that over the past few years, armed Papuan groups have often employed hit-and-run tactics against Indonesian security personnel and mounted acts of terror against civilians in the districts of Intan Jaya, Nduga, and Puncak to trigger fear among the people.

The targets of such acts of terror have included construction worke...

Guardian legitimises Mohammed el-Kurds blood libel "IndyWatch Feed National"

A Guardian article by deputy culture editor Sian Cain (Adelaide Writers Week: rare moments of empathy and nuance found amid a storm of controversy, March 12) legitimised the antisemitic charge that Israel harvests and eats the organs of dead Palestinians.
The journalist notes the following about a row at a Writers Week in South Australia invovling the racist, anti-Israel activist Mohammed el-Kurd.

A storm brewed. Attention turned to the other Palestinian writers on the bill, including Mohammed El-Kurd, a Palestinian poet whose debut collection Rifqa narrates his experience of dispossession in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood of East Jerusalem. The Anti-Defamation League has criticised some of his social media comments as antisemitic, as well as a line in one of his poems: They harvest organs of the martyred, feed their warriors our own.

It shouldnt require the ADL for a Guardian journalist to understand that the accusation of Israel harvest[ing] the organs ofmartyred Palestinians and feeding those organs to their own soldiers is a monstrous, medieval antisemitic blood libel variations of which incited the murder of Jews going back to the Middle Ages.  Though the libel began in Norwich in 1144 with the accusation that Jews murder non-Jews and then use the victims blood for Jewish rituals, the blood libel lives on in the sham charges accusing Jews/Zionists of harvesting the organs of their hapless Palestinian victims.

Yet, later in her article, Cain legit...

Battling Cancel Culture at Adelaide Writers Week "IndyWatch Feed National"

Writing festivals are often tired, stilted affairs, but the 38th Adelaide Writers Week did not promise to be that run-of-the-mill gathering of yawn-inducing, life draining sessions. For one thing, social media vultures and public relations experts, awaiting the next freely explosive remark or unguarded comment, were at hand to stir the pot and exhort cancel culture.

The fuss began with the festival organisers invitation of two Palestinian authors, Susan Abulhawa and Mohammed El-Kurd. Abulhawa was specifically targeted for critical comments on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, notably regarding NATO membership, and for being a mouthpiece of Russian propaganda, while El-Kurd has been singled out for social-media commentary on the Israeli state, calling it sadistic, demonic and a death cult.

Righteously, the South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas showed his less than worldly view on such festivals by insisting on boycotting their talks and presentations. Ever the vote-getting politician, there were those constituents at the Association of Ukrainians in South Australia who had been making noise, notably through their president, Frank Fursenko. We are very concerned that [the festival organisers] are giving a platform to people who are known apologists for the Russian invasion of Ukraine, insisted Fursenko.

Malinauskas even contemplated pulling government funding from the event, something he declared at his address opening Writers Week. (This was also the view of the South Australian opposition leader, David Speirs.) The premier, it should be noted, is less morally troubled when it comes to funding the LIV Golf tournament, backed by the obscurantist journalist-assassinating regime of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

At the very least, he made some concession to maturity: refusing to listen to someones viewpoint also involved surrendering the opportunity to challenge it, much less change their mind. But for all that Abulhawas presence at the Writers Week had to be actively questioned.

The Advertiser was less reserved, barking in childish condemnation and demanding, via a statement from editor Gemma Jone...
