Help with 5 day PD itinerary "IndyWatch Feed Capricornia"

Hi all,

Im visiting from abroad next week. Im going to spend four days on the spirit of freedom liveaboard solo, for scuba diving, before being joined by my partner (who doesnt scuba) in port Douglas on the 27th.

Heres what I was thinking for a loose itinerary:

APRIL 27: chill at Sheraton in PD, just hang out and relax.

APRIL 28: full day snorkel tour from PD (hoping to convince partner to do an intro dive but not necessary) of GBR. Thinking silver sonic or calypso three site day tour anyone have any preference? Would def want a comfortable boat with a bar on board as well.

APRIL 29: mossman gorge in am, do a guided walk in daintree forest in pm, do a croc river cruise at dusk. Sleep at cape trib beach house and maybe do a guided night walk.

APRIL 30: wake up, hike mt sorrow on cape trib, do a self drive up through Brookfield track in a 4wd to cooktown and back. In later afternoon, drive down to tablelands area, stay at an eco lodge down there.

MAY 1: wake up early, explore tablelands hikes/waterfalls. Late afternoon drive to cairns to sleep at hotel there.

MAY 2: wake up early for 6 am flight out of cairns to Alice springs for Outback time.

Would love to hear your thoughts on any recs/reorganizing of the above. Thanks!!!

The best and simplest explanation yet of the unlawfulness of the Voice referendum "IndyWatch Feed Capricornia"

Aboriginal activist Noel Pearson was taken under the wing of the large Melbourne Jewish law firm Arnold, Bloch, Liebler and given lessons by partner Mark Liebler, son of Isi Liebler who had strong ties with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

Isi Libler was also Bob Hawkes personal solicitor and the firm then acted for the Australian Labor Party. The commentary in this video from Grandmother Mulara is as accurate as any we have seen in the current debate and is correct at law.

Would Noel Pearson, who has called Voice opponents racist, a strategy taught to him by the Jews, ever debate the officious Grandmother Mulara, a law graduate, about the hidden agenda of the Voice? We seriously doubt it.

She would expose his expansive curriculum vitae which could take this Aboriginal elitist out of the show.

Pentagon Document Leak "IndyWatch Feed Capricornia"

Last month dozens of top secret files where leaked to discord severs, the controversial message board 4Chan, Telegram an encrypted messaging app and Twitter.

The documents have sensitive information ranges from Ukrainian and Russian casualties rates, current Iranian nuclear activity, North Korean missile capability and Chinas possible reaction to a Ukrainian attack within Russia.  The leak also exposed which allies the US was eavesdropping on.

Russian media has capitalised on the leak to try and drive a wedge between the US and its allies but other than a formal complaint from two countries the Five Eyes intelligence organisations strategic ties remain strong.

The United States is still unsure who leaked the information and how they acquired it.

IVF Breakthrough "IndyWatch Feed Capricornia"

Around 80% of IVF cycles fail, and 40%-60% are related to sperm problems.  Things like motility, poor sperm quality, low sperm count are critical factors in the success of IVF.

Yet to date most work was done on egg and embryo selection to boost success rates of IVF, and comparatively little on sperm selection.

UTS and NeoGenix Biosciences, a UTS Start-up, have created a new sperm selection device which closely replicates the female reproductive tract natural sperm selection process, ensuring the best and healthiest sperm fertilise the egg.

UTS researchers have partnered with Monash University and Australian IVF clinics like Melbourne IVF to test the new technology in clinical practice this year.

Tax rebate could be $600 less "IndyWatch Feed Capricornia"

As the Treasurer Jim Chalmers has bluntly said there will be no extension to the middle and low income earner tax rebate and this could mean tax rebates of around $600 less come June 30 this year.

For the Government who ran an election campaign on cost of living pressures, this additional hit along with an estimated additional interest rate hike is going to hurt middle Australia most.

With the International headwinds cited by the Treasurer terms like belt tightening are soon likely to seep into economic commentary.

Travelling to Cairns for work this year, and I could use some tips! "IndyWatch Feed Capricornia"

Hey everyone!
I'll be coming down to Cairns for a work related conference this August and while I'm super excited for the trip, I have also never been to Australia before, and have little to no idea of how to prepare for my week there. For budget reasons, I was mostly looking at shared dorms for the duration of my visit, and the event that I'm attending recommended Gilligan's on Grafton St, which looks great online and is a very short walk from where I'll be working.
I'll mostly be free in the evenings only, so I was wondering what to do with my free time- I love stuff like museums and aquariums and have found some points of interest through Google, but I'd love to know which places are absolute musts while visiting.
I'd also really appreciate any tips for budgeting and how much of a daily budget to prepare for in terms of food and local transport. Work will take up most of my day during the week I'm spending there, but I was planning to stay for an extra day of sightseeing before heading home!
Lastly, do I need to keep an eye out for anything safety-wise, especially in the area (mostly between Grafton St and Wharf St) where I'm staying? I'll generally be traveling by myself, and I don't think this will be much of an issue- but I figured I'd cover all the bases.

Thank you all in advance for any tips or advice! Looking forward to visiting.

Australias New Big Corporate Tax Avoidance Laws World Class, Says Oxfam "IndyWatch Feed National"

Oxfam Australia has described the Australian Governments latest legislation on corporate tax transparency as world leading, hailing it as a significant move towards reducing tax avoidance in Australia and overseas.

The new legislation is aimed at ensuring large corporations finally start paying their fair share of tax.

Oxfam Australias Chief Executive, Lyn Morgain, said the Albanese governments legislation was a step towards reducing global tax dodging.

This legislation will expose global corporations shifting profits to tax havens and thus go a long way to stopping this unacceptable behaviour, she said.

Morgain added that the lack of transparency in the tax system has made it challenging to hold big corporations accountable for their actions.

The legislation will make waves across the globe in exposing corporate tax avoidance. This leadership by the Albanese Government is to be applauded.

Oxfam Australia CEO Lyn Morgain.

Oxfam Australias background work on this issue has helped draw attention to the problem, said Morgain. Since 2014, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) has leaked a vast number of documents, including the Panama Papers and the Paradise Papers. The leaked papers have revealed how multinational companies and wealthy individuals use tax havens to increase their profits by avoiding paying taxes in their countries.

Oxfam Australia has released a series of reports that show how Australian companies have joined the global tax dodging effort, including through the use of tax havens. Morgain emphasized that tax dodging deprives some of the worlds poorest people of access to essential services, such as education, health, clean water, and sanitation.

Tax is crucial for governments to afford the services we all need an...

The recent release of what used to be secretive government information reveals the COVID shot is the direct cause of a 5,000+% uptick in excess deaths throughout Australia. Compare the number of excess deaths in Australia in 2020 to 2021, and youll find a spike of exactly 5,162%. The primary societal change in this period is the widespread administration of the COVID shot across the continent. Coincidence? Hardly so.

Aussie Gig Workers Robbed Of Almost Half Billion In Super "IndyWatch Feed National"

Australias gig workers people in short-term or on demand freelance jobs, including delivery drivers, disability carers, IT professionals and education workers are missing out on $400 million a year in super contributions, a new report from Industry Super Australia (ISA) has found.

The report estimates that there are 275,000 gig workers in Australia, and according to ISAs analysis, the average gig worker could have up to $29,000 more in their retirement savings if super contributions were paid to them.

ISA analysis shows the typical transport and food delivery driver gig worker misses out on $1,900 super contributions a year when working an average of 14.5 hours a week, earning $24 per hour. Spending three years in the industry would mean these super contributions would reach $17,200 at retirement and $28,700 if in gig work for five years.

A care industry gig worker a growing part of the on-demand workforce who earns the average $23.40 an hour and averages 8.6 hours a week would get $1,100 extra a year in super contributions.

Being a gig worker should not mean you miss out on the opportunity to save for a decent nest-egg at retirement, said Bernie Dean, Chief Executive of Industry Super Australia. Paying gig workers super isnt just the right thing to do, it makes economic sense because theyll be more self-sufficient in retirement and less reliant on the age pension, which we all pay for through taxes. These workers are critical to caring for our elderly, delivering food and driving us home, they have every right to share in the benefits of what is meant to be a universal saving system.

The report emphasizes that paying super to gig workers is crucial as many of them are young workers who are not earning super, including those with disabilities, students, or those who are unemployed. Small super contributions from gig work could make a significant difference to these workers quality of life in retirement, the ISA says.

The report also highlights that paying superannuation to gig workers is becoming increasingly important as the on-demand workforce continues to grow. A 2019 academic survey with 14,000 responses estimates that within a 12-month period about seven per cent of Australians were in on-demand work, and 13 per cent had undertaken digital platform work.

The federal government is currently considering legislation to extend the Fair Work Commissions powers to set a minimum set of employment standards for gig workers, which would include the payment of super. Mr Dean said ISA supports moves that uphold the flexibility and convenience of gig work, while ensuring a minimum set of employment standards.

FixedIt: Invisible perpetrators are everywhere "IndyWatch Feed National"

Sky News reported on the increasing number of women and children being forced into homelessness by violent men perpetrating domestic violence and structural poverty built into the housing market.

Somehow, they managed to do that without mentioning either the individual perpetrators of violence (mostly men) or the perpetrators of structural poverty (mostly coalition governments).

Violent men who terrorise women and children into homelessness are once again invisible. Families suffering from domestic violence got a mention, as did mothers escaping domestic abuse and violence with their children. The men who are so abusive that women and children are safer sleeping in cars and shelters than staying at home were erased from the story.

The video which inexplicably includes what I hope are actors playing out violent scenes is an interview with CEO of not-for-profit organisation Women and Children First, Dr Gabrielle Morrissey. She advocates for perpetrators being removed from the homes in which they commit violence, that they are held accountable by the legal system, and required to undertake therapy and education. All of this was erased from the headline and write up.

Shockingly, Sky News, also failed to mention the structural housing affordability crisis created by decades of government policy designed to benefit people who can afford to invest in property, ignore (at best) people who cannot afford to buy a home, punish people living in poverty, and keep wage growth low in an entirely successful effort to shift income from workers to corporations.

aboriginal-flagAboriginal land claims, native title and land rights are based on a false anthropological premise and are totally fraudulent according to astounding new Australian archaeological discoveries and recent linguistic studies.

The delusion of 40,000 years of dreamtime mantra is the product of untruthful anthropologists.

According to Alfred Cort Haddon, a turn of the century figure revered today as the founding father of British anthropology, the aborigines were clearly pre-Dravidian people from South India.

In Haddons 1909 book, The Races of Man, he asserts that Australia was originally inhabited by Papuans, or Negritoes, who wandered on the extreme south of the continent.

Later, a pre-Dravidian race migrated to Australia and overran the continent, absorbing the sparse aboriginal population.

Thus, said Haddon, the original aborigines were either driven off, exterminated or even partially assimilated.

Modern anthropologists have a real problem, should they try to dismiss Haddons findings. If they dismiss this work of the oligarchys icon of the time, they are also discrediting...

Fighting the case against Julian Assange "IndyWatch Feed National"

Stephen Rohde reviews a new book by investigative journalist Kevin Gosztola about the persecution of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange (Truthdig 7 April 2023). The book outlines the lengths to which Washington has gone to get its hands on the journalist and editor, which includes deliberate lies and misinformation, the abuse of law and legal process, the use of slander to discredit Assanges reputation, and even plans to murder him. This, it is suggested, attacks freedom of the press and the democratic rights of everyone. Rohdes article, and especially Gosztolas book, Guilty Journalism: The Political Case Against Julian Assange. are must reads for those wanting to know the truth the most important political trial in our time.

Like the Trump administration that preceded it, the Biden administration is seeking the extradition of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to stand trial on an indictment under the infamous Espionage Act of 1917. As the unprecedented U.S. prosecution of Assange reaches a critical stage, a growing number of elite media outlets, human rights advocates and press freedom organizations around the world are demanding his release. Roads, human activity take a toll on red pandas: Q&A with researcher Damber Bista "IndyWatch Feed National"

KATHMANDU The spring season in the Northern Hemisphere is a critical time for red pandas, particularly in Nepal. This is the period when these furry, tree-dwelling animals spend a lot of time on the ground to look for food. Its also the time when breeding adults of the species, Ailurus fulgens, start to reproduce, and when cubs born the previous year explore their habitat in search of a new home. These are some of the findings conservationist Damber Bista made while working on his Ph.D. at the University of Queensland, Australia. As part of the study, Bista and his team fitted 10 red pandas in eastern Nepal with GPS collars, so that they could track them to look at the effects of human disturbances on the species. Mongabays Abhaya Raj Joshi spoke to Bista recently over video call to learn about his work. The following interview has been translated from Nepali and lightly edited for length and clarity. Mongabay: Could you please describe the main objectives of your study? Damber Bista: My main overall objective was to look at the effects of human disturbance and habitat fragmentation on red pandas. I tried to look at these issues from different indicators such as their space use pattern, daily movement and behavior while close to a road. Also, as we didnt have previous studies on how cubs disperse after leaving their mother, I also looked into it. The Climate Crisis Is Increasing Home Runs in Baseball "IndyWatch Feed National"

Why have the number of home runs struck at baseball games gone up since the 1980s?

There are many possible factors, from steroids to alterations in bat and ball design to improved analytics. But one part of the answer may surprise you: climate change.

Theres a very clear physical mechanism at play in which warmer temperatures reduce the density of air. Baseball is a game of ballistics, and a batted ball is going to fly farther on a warm day, Dartmouth College assistant professor of geography Justin Mankin said in a press release.

Mankin is the senior author on a unique study published in the American Meteorological Society Friday that found that more than 500 home runs since 2010 could be attributed to warmer temperatures from the burning of fossil fuels. That amounts to an extra 58 runs a year between 2010 and 2019, The Guardian pointed out. Or around one percent of recent extra runs.

We dont think temperature is the dominant factor in the increase in home runs batters are now primed to hit balls at optimal speeds and angles, lead author and Dartmouth geography doctoral candidate Christopher Callahan said in the press release. That said, temperature matters and weve identified its effect. While climate change has been a minor influence so far, this influence will substantially increase by the end of the century if we continue to emit greenhouse gases and temperatures rise.

By 2100 under these conditions, 10 percent of home runs or more could be attributed to the climate crisis.

The study authors looked at 100,000 major league games and 220,000 hits, and then saw which home runs occurred during warmer than average temp...

Ukraine attempts to blame Russia for humiliating Pentagon leak "IndyWatch Feed National"

By Ahmed Adel | April 10, 2023

The Pentagon announced it was trying to remove from the internet a major leak of secret documents which have exposed plans relating to Ukraines war on Russia. For his part, Elon Musk sarcastically highlighted the vain attempt, saying on Twitter: Yeah, you can totally delete things from the Internet that works perfectly and doesnt draw attention to whatever you were trying to hide at all.

The American billionaire derided on Twitter the Pentagons attempt to remove social media posts containing leaked classified documents relating to the conflict in Ukraine. The day before his tweet, the New York Times newspaper indicated that officials were not successful in removing the publications from the internet.

The leak was described to the News York Times by a senior intelligence official as a nightmare for the Five Eyes, the intelligence sharing apparatus between the Anglo countries the United States, Britain, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. Some of the documents were found on Twitter and other sites on April 7, a day after US officials announced that they were investigating a potential leak of classified Ukrainian war plans. These war plans include an alarming assessment of Ukraines faltering air defence capabilities and notes that 12 brigades are being formed for Ukraine, including nine trained by the US and other NATO allies.

One of the leaks, dated February 23, is labelled Secret/NoForn, meaning it was not meant to be shared with foreign countries, and thus confirms the secrecy of the documents.

It is the belief of Mick Mulroy, a former senior Pentagon official, that the leak is a significant breach in security that could hamper Ukrainian military planning as it reportedly prepares for a spring offensive. As many of these were pictures of documents, it appears that it was a deliberate leak done by someone that wished to damage the Ukraine, US, and NATO efforts, he said.

The Kremlin said it had no doubts about the participation of the US or NATO, direct or indirect, in the conflict in Ukraine. None-the-less, the leaks would still provide a fascinating insight for decisionmakers in Moscow.

The New York Times reported that the leaks appear to be legitimate Defense Department documents. None-the-less, this did not stop Ukrainian officials from suggesting that the leak was only part of a Russian disinformation campaign aimed at influencing Ukraines possible spring offensive.

Ukrainian presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak told Reuters that the data contained a very large amount of fictitious information and Russia was trying to seize back the initiative in its invasion. His claim, instead, is part of Ukraines disinformation campaign, one that has been insisted upon........

Covid vaxx causing traffic accidents "IndyWatch Feed Capricornia"

https://www.europereloaded.com/city-bus-school-bus-and-truck-drivers-are-suffering-sudden-cardiac-arrests-collapsing-and-crashing/

Queensland has experienced its highest road accident toll since 2009, with 299 deaths in 2022 coinciding with the continuous rollout of Covid jabs across the state.

In February the Queensland Transport Minister Mark Bailey, a non-driver, alluded their could be a connection to the Covid jabs but intends yet again to double up on driving penalties and force those renewing drivers licences to undergo road rules refresher tests.

This bus for no apparent reason reportedly veered into the path of a four wheel drive in Cairns in 2022.

There has been a continual spate of serious road accidents over the past 18 months resulting in deaths and hospitalisations.

Every few day newspaper readers are confronted with stories of single vehicle accidents where inexplicably, cars have crashed into trees on straight stretches of safe roads or a vehicle suddenly veering into the path of oncoming cars.

Usually it is reported that drivers suffered a medical episode, which in pre-plandemic years was almost unheard of particularly in regional areas.

Other states have reported similar data.

Jessica Lancaster didnt want to tell the panel of three strangers in front of her about the moment her chiropractor insisted she lift up her shirt.

How Kelby Martins breathing became heavier as he groped her breasts, which had been healing from surgery; how after he touched her chest, he didnt follow through with any type of chiropractic treatment; how she left his office in August 2021 in a haze.

But Lancaster wanted to sue Martin to hold him accountable, and before she could do that, Utah law required her to make her case to the panel.

The panel concluded last August that Martin had departed from the normal standard of care, Lancasters lawyers later disclosed in a court filing. In response to a request for comment, Martins lawyer pointed to court papers in which the chiropractor denied Lancasters allegations against him. The case is pending; his license remains in good standing with the state.

There was a time when a majority of states had adopted malpractice screening panels in some form. A 1984 analysis by the American Medical Association found 30 states had implemented panels at some point. The goal was to cut down on frivolous lawsuits and encourage settlements of legitimate claims.

Over the years, many of those states found these panels ineffective or in violation of their constitutions, and some did away with them entirely. But Utah remains one of 16 states where patients still must spend time, money for legal services and emotional energy recounting to a panel how a medical professional they trusted hurt them, according to a tally from the Nation...

How to Tame the Endless Infinities Hiding in the Heart of Particle Physics "IndyWatch Feed National"

This is actually important.  understand that empirical infinity is merely a very large number and its inverse is not zero.  This makes it a tangible thing in theoretical physics.  It leads to real issues and here a chap has gone out and advanced it totally.

The key thing tnhough is to understand that you must seprate mathematical infinity from empirical infinity and even if this is by accident by discarding or setting aside those nasty infinities, it is still dealing with something that is real.

This will ultimately shake out into a new branch of mathematics.  It is also looking very productive in terms of physics.

How to Tame the Endless Infinities Hiding in the Heart of Particle Physics

In the math of particle physics, every calculation should result in infinity. Physicists get around this by just ignoring certain parts of the equations an approach that provides approximate answers. But by using the techniques known as resurgence, researchers hope to end the infinities and end up with perfectly precise predictions.

Letter from Peter Dutton:

Yesterday the Liberal Party determined its position on the Voice.

We will oppose the Prime Ministers model because it will enshrine in

It is a risky and divisive proposal that will not deliver practical outcomes.

Improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
Australians requires a sensible and practical approach.

Thats why we reaffirm our commitment to local and regional advisory

We support the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
as Australias First People in our Constitution. But we would do so in
a responsible way that doesnt create Constitutional uncertainty.

This is a case of doing whats right for our country.

A referendum to enshrine the Albanese Governments Voice in the
Constitution is a big decision with unknown consequences.

Our Constitution is our most important legal document. Every word can
have a meaning and can be open to interpretation.

Once its in the Constitution, it is permanent. It wont be changed.

The Government or Parliament cannot rectify any unintended consequences.

The facts matter. The details matter.

Thats why we asked 15 questions in January questions that still
remain unanswered.

The way Mr Albaneses Voice has been worded, and by enshrining it in
the Constitution, could open a legal can of worms.

WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, a former, wanted Ethiopian terrorist urges Australia and all member states to approve the plandemic accord by May next year

Click to access A_INB5_2-en.pdf

The first week in April saw the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) to draft a pandemic accord started on Monday with acknowledgement by World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Tedros is an Ethiopian Communist and former Gook terrorist who fought with the Tigrayan Peoples Liberation Front under the umbrella of MK. As a Political Commissar he had a role in the creation of a failed Marxist state for the people of Ethiopia. Im sure they were glad to see the back of him when he landed the plum job with the UN.

Thus spake Tedros: There is now only one year until the World Health Assembly in May 2024, which will consider the outcome of your efforts, said Tedros. This is a very tight timeframe, especially for a global negotiation. But from what you have accomplished so far, I am confident again that you have the will and commitment to reach a consensus in 11 months.

It was a foregone conclusion that a Global Pandemic treaty would be one of the objects of the UN CoVID...

Prepare Yourselves For The Rare Hybrid Solar Eclipse "IndyWatch Feed National"

Skywatchers and astronomy enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the rare celestial event known as a hybrid solar eclipse, set to occur in April 2023. This unique type of eclipse transitions from an annular to a total solar eclipse as it moves along its path, providing a fascinating viewing experience. This article will discuss the details of the April 2023 hybrid solar eclipse, including its path, what to expect, and how to safely view this extraordinary event.

The Hybrid Solar Eclipse of April 2023

On April 20, 2023, the hybrid solar eclipse will captivate observers as it makes its way across the Earths surface. A hybrid solar eclipse occurs when the moons distance from the Earth is such that it transitions between being slightly too far to completely cover the sun, resulting in an annular eclipse, and being close enough to create a total solar eclipse. This rare combination makes hybrid solar eclipses a sought-after event for both amateur and professional astronomers.

The Path of the Eclipse

The path of the April 2023 hybrid solar eclipse will primarily pass over the Pacific Ocean, beginning southeast of Japan and making its way across the ocean towards the western coast of Central America. Regions along the path where the total phase of the eclipse will be visible include parts of Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and several Pacific island nations. A broader region, including parts of Asia, Australia, and the Americas, will be able to witness a partial solar eclipse.

What to Expect: Observers located within the path of totality will experience the unique transition from an annular to a total solar eclipse. The event will begin as an annular eclipse, with the moon covering the suns center and leaving a bright ring of fire visible around the edges. As the eclipse progresses, the moon will move closer to Earth, eventually covering the sun entirely and creating a total solar eclipse. This brief period of complete darkness will be a remarkable sight for those fortunate enough to be in the right location.

Viewing the Eclipse Safely

It is crucial to remember that looking directly at the sun without proper eye protection can cause serious and permanent eye damage. To safely view any solar eclipse, including the hybrid solar eclipse of April 2023, it is essential to use specially designed solar viewing glasses or filters. Regular sunglasses, even if they are polarized, are not sufficient for protecting your eyes during an eclipse. Additionally, ensure that any telescopes, binoculars, or cameras you use are equipped with appropriate solar filters.

The hybrid solar eclipse of April 2023 offers a unique and rare celestial event for skywatchers to witness. As the eclipse transitions from annular to total, observers along its path will be treated to a breathtaking and unforgettable experience. Remember to prioritize safety when viewing the eclipse, using proper ey...

Macron refuses to back US line on China "IndyWatch Feed National"

Western Europe must pursue "strategic autonomy" and avoid getting dragged into confrontations on behalf of the US, Emmanuel Macron told Politico on Sunday. The French president has made similar assertions before, but has nevertheless followed Washington's lead on Ukraine. In an interview while traveling within China this week, Macron told the news site that "Europe faces a great risk" if it "gets caught up in crises that are not ours." "The paradox would be that, overcome with panic, we believe we are just America's followers," Macron said. "The question Europeans need to answer... is it in our interest to accelerate [a crisis] on Taiwan? No. The worse thing would be to think that we Europeans must become followers on this topic and take our cue from the US agenda and a Chinese overreaction."

ABOARD COTAM UNIT (FRANCES AIR FORCE ONE) Europe must reduce its dependency on the United States and avoid getting dragged into a confrontation between China and the U.S. over Taiwan, French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview on his plane back from a three-day state visit to China.

Speaking with POLITICO and two French journalists after spending around six hours with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his trip, Macron emphasized his pet theory of strategic autonomy for Europe, presumably led by France, to become a third superpower.

He said the great risk Europe faces is that it gets caught up in crises that are not ours, which prevents it from building its strategic autonomy, while flying from Beijing to Guangzhou, in southern China, aboard COTAM Unit, Frances Air Force One.

Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party have enthusiastically endorsed Macrons concept of strategic autonomy and Chinese officials constantly refer to it in their dealings with European countries. Party leaders and theorists in Beijing are convinced the West is in decline and China is on the ascendant and that weakening the transatlantic relationship will help accelerate this trend.

The paradox would be that, overcome with panic, we believe we are just Americas followers, Macron said in the interview. The question Europeans need to answer is it in our interest to accelerate [a crisis] on Taiwan? No. The worse thing would be to think that we Europeans must become followers on this topic and take our cue from the U.S. agenda and a Chinese overreaction, he said.

Just hours after his flight left Guangzhou headed back to Paris, China launched large military exercises around the self-ruled island of Taiwan, which China claims as its territory but the U.S. has promised to arm and defend.

Why the Rule of Law is Collapsing "IndyWatch Feed National"

QUESTION: Marty, Why did you not file a lawsuit against the government for false imprisonment?

SH

ANSWER: I met with five law firms. The truth is when they say the corruption of the judge even changing transcripts and the court of appeals, NOT one lawyer had the guts to challenge the government and the courts. I think people even wrote to Judicial Watch and they would never answer.

When it comes to actually challenging how corrupt the entire system has become, no lawyer wanted to get involved. They are all afraid of the government. I met with one of the largest firms in Philadelphia. Their response We dont sue other lawyers.

Good luck in finding someone who will really defend you. I was at a meeting early on and 4 law firms were talking about how corrupt the judge was. When I told Tenzer Greenblatt to make a motion to recuse the judge, they said their firm would never do that for all the other judges in NYC would then prejudice their firm for even making a recusal motion. So much for the rule of law.

Perhaps Trump will bring all of this to the surface.

The Silent Vitamin Deficiency Mimicking Dementia and How to Reverse Its Effects "IndyWatch Feed National"

Dementia is a growing concern globally, with an estimated 82 million people expected to be affected by 2030. The progressive decline in cognitive function can be devastating, but what if some cases could be attributed to a simple vitamin deficiency? The answer lies in the often-overlooked importance of vitamin B12, an essential nutrient for normal brain function. A deficiency in this vitamin can produce symptoms strikingly similar to dementia. In this article, well explore the role of vitamin B12 in the body, its connection to dementia, and how to address this deficiency through supplementation, a healthy lifestyle, and diet.

Vitamin B12 is crucial for the development and maintenance of nerve cells, the synthesis of DNA, and the production of red blood cells. It is most abundantly found in animal products, but certain microbes can also produce it. Low animal product consumption is the most common cause of vitamin B12 deficiency.

As we age, our hydrochloric acid (HCL) levels in the stomach decrease, which can lead to vitamin B12 deficiency. HCL is necessary to break down and absorb many vitamins and minerals. Antacids or Metformin use can further lower HCL levels, and acid reflux, often treated with antacids, can be a sign of low HCL. Betaine hydrochloride is the best supplement to promote normal stomach acidity.

Additionally, several medications and substances may cause dementia-like symptoms as side effects, including antacids, bladder medications, sleep aids, SSRIs, cholesterol medications, blood pressure medications, steroids, and alcohol. A deficiency in vitamin B1 (thiamine), zinc, and vitamin D can also lead to dementia-like symptoms.

A 2013 study in the journal Neurology found that vitamin B12-deficient individuals had smaller brain volumes and poorer cognitive performance, suggesting a link between B12 deficiency and dementia. Furthermore, nutrient deficiencies can shrink the hippocampus, leading to Alzheimers disease. Increasing ketones can help nourish a brain starved of fuel and nutrients.

Dr. Burg, a renowned expert in this field, recommends a four-step approach to addressing dementia symptoms caused by nutrient deficiencies:

  1. Start Healthy Keto and intermittent fasting: This eating pattern encourages a higher intake of healthy fats and a lower intake of carbohydrates, which can help increase ketone levels and support brain function.
  2. Consume more fatty fish and seafood: These are excellent sources of vitamin B12 and omega-3 fatty acids, which can help reduce inflammation and support brain health.
  3. Consume more red meat: It is a rich source of vitamin B12, iron, and other essential nutrients that support cognitive function.
  4. Take betaine hydrochloride: This supplement can help increase stomach acidity and improve the absorption of vitamin B12 and other nutrients.

The Pentagon confirmed the leak, but said that some of the documents - as with the earlier reported leak - had been doctored to downplay the strength of U.S. allies. The first tranche of documents appeared to have been posted in early March on the social media platform Discord, according to Aric Toler, an analyst at Bellingcat, the Dutch investigative site. Friday's documents were published on the controversial message board 4Chan, and subsequently spread on Twitter.

Senators make new demand regarding FBI, Hunter Biden, Obama White House "IndyWatch Feed National"

Two GOP senators who have been investigating alleged Biden family corruption for years have stepped up their efforts. Now, Republican Sens. Charles Grassley of Iowa and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin want more answers. Grassley and Johnson have sent a letter to Zuckerberg noting that in October 2020, "when the New York Post published articles based on evidence from Hunter Biden's laptop, many news and social media organizations inappropriately rushed to censor and discredit the initial reporting and falsely labeled it as 'disinformation.'" "Whistleblowers have also alleged to Senator Johnson that local FBI leadership instructed its employees not to look at the Hunter Biden laptop immediately after the FBI had obtained it. Americans deserve to know whether the FBI used Facebook as part of their alleged plan to discredit information about Hunter Biden." Hunter Biden's problems continue to get worse.

LAMOLA BLASTS UAE FOR FAILING TO INFORM SA OF GUPTA EXTRADITION DECISION

A United Arab Emirates court is believed to have ruled on the request almost a month ago, dismissing the application on a technical issue Lamola says is 'inexplicable'.

Nokukhanya Mntambo | 07 April 2023 13:10

JOHANNESBURG - Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola said South African officials were scrambling for answers after news that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had denied the country's request to extradite the Gupta fugitives.

Gupta brothers, Rajesh and Atul, are wanted in South Africa to face fraud and corruption charges related to state capture crimes.

Lamola briefed the media on Friday morning following reports the duo were spotted in Switzerland in late March.

Lamola hit out at the UAE for failing to inform South African officials of the court's decision to deny the extradition request for the Gupta brothers.

A UAE court is believed to have ruled on the request almost a month ago, dismissing the application on a technical issue.

The court denied the extradition on the charge of money laundering, citing the UAE's jurisdiction over the matter, while the arrest warrant on the fraud and corruption charges was cancelled.

But Lamola said this did not warrant grounds for dismissal.

"The reasons provided for denying our request are inexplicable and fly in the face of the assurances given by Emirati authorities that our requests meet their requirements."

Lamola further accused the UAE of flouting the extradition treaty.

Letter to Attorney-General Richard Dreyfus, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Senator Penny Wong concerning Julian Assange "IndyWatch Feed National"

I posted the following letter to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Foreign Minister Penny Wong and the Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus at around 11:00am on Thursday 7 April during a outside the electoral office of Mark Dreyfus in the Melbourne suburb of Mordialloc. I had hoped to hand a copy of this letter to Mark Dreyfus in person or, at least, to a member of his staff, but his office was unattended. For security reasons, as explained to me by a member of the Federal Police, there was no slot through which I could put the letter, so I had to send the letter through the mail. I expect that my letter would have been received in Mark Dreyfus' office the next day and that my letters to Anthony Albanese and Penny Wong will arrive on Tuesday 11 April following the Easter long Weekend. I have also e-mailed this letter, with the subject Please act humanely now to end the illegal imprisonment of Julian Assange, and sent CC copies to members of the .

Dear Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Senator Penny Wong,

Late last year on 30 November 2022, when asked by Dr. Monique Ryan during Question Time, "Will the government intervene to bring Mr Assange home?" Prime Minister Anthony Albanese responded, "I [can] assure [Dr. Ryan] that I have raised this personally with representatives of the United States government." and "I will continue to advocate, as I did recently in meetings that I have held."

Then, 4 weeks later on 28 December at the Woodford Folk Festival, when Jenni, a young disabled female supporter of Julian Assange asked the Prime Minister a similar question, in his response, he said, "We don't have the power by ourselves to intervene in the legal processes of another country, in this case the United States or indeed the United Kingdom."

In his earlier response to Dr. Monique Ryan, the Prime Minister, curiously, did not claim that the Australian government doesn't "have the power" to make the UK free Assange. I believe that this is because Prime Minister Albanese fully understands that he could make British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak free Julian Assange today if he chose to. He could simply 'phone Sunak and tell him, "You are illegally holding in prison an Australian citizen...

US efforts to ban TikTok are pure projection by the worlds biggest spy power "IndyWatch Feed National"

By Timur Fomenko | RT | April 4, 2023

As the United States contemplates a possible ban on TikTok, it relentlessly accuses Beijing of using the popular Chinese-owned social media application as a means of espionage, claiming that the Communist Party has access to user data.

Ironically, Washington itself is known to be doing exactly what US politicians are accusing China of doing. Using the unique advantage of having jurisdiction over the worlds top internet companies, the US has given itself the right to look into the private communications of foreign citizens anywhere in the world. Combine that data-sharing between intelligence agencies of the US and its allies, and you get the most comprehensive espionage regime in the world.

While American politicians and media constantly talk about fears of Chinese espionage, the near-absence of coverage of Washingtons own spying efforts ought to be a reminder of where the true power lies. When it comes to the shady activities of the CIA and the NSA, the public tends to only learn what they did years later from declassified documents, or what they have been doing all along from rare whistleblowers like Edward Snowden. All discussion and speculation about what they may be doing right now tends to be dismissed as conspiracy theories. Conversely, allegations of Chinese spying activities are constantly explained as we all know theyre doing it in the public eye, despite the lack of solid proof.

These warning signs remind us that the most cryptic source of all spying in the world is not China, but the US. Since the Second World War, the US has, in conjunction with Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, maintained a worldwide spying regime known as the Five Eyes which, in the age of mass communications, has been designed so that each government can bypass its own privacy laws and judicial restraints in order to spy on each others citizens, while supplying information within the group. In doing so, they have created a number of communication interception and surveillance programs, as revealed by Snowden, such as PRISM, ECHELON, XKEYSCORE, etc.

Of course, the US nearly holds a monopoly over the means of information and data gathering definitely more so than any other country. This is because it has the privilege of having the worlds most dominant internet companies located on its own soil, such as Google, Microsoft, Twitter and Meta. These organizations are required by law to share data with the US government and authorities should they request it. But the US has also gone even further, as revealed by the Washington Post in 2020, the CIA had secretly...

Is Henry Makow Good for the Jews? "IndyWatch Feed National"

HenryMakow.com April 7, 2023

(Good for the Jews   as in reflects positively on Jews in general )

Got this today from a longtime Jewish correspondent and historical revisionist-

We both had Jewish mothers. We are both aware of the worlds villains. When you label Jews, satanic, you imperil nice people, like me. You also endanger nice people like my kids and my grandkids (who arent satanic btw) and thousands of grandmas who make delicious chicken noodle soup. Do you have grandkids, Henry? (Hitler didnt, thats why THEY used him as the ruse to protect their identities.) I remember being caught in a school lockdown while visiting my grandkids school for a play. It was a Jewish school. Jewish schools must have security guards at the door. As do synagogues on Sabbath and holidays. We both know that bad people who call themselves Jews do bad things, like genocide. Nice Jews wind up paying for it. Those that survive, live in fear. The word Jew is like the word people. There are wonderful ones, mediocre ones, and horrible ones. I have dedicated my life to identifying the horrible ones that are above the law and get away scot-free for murdering millions both Jews and non-Jews. It wouldnt suck if you would differentiate the culprits from the victims. This may make you appear soft in the eyes of those of your readers who have been cultivated by indiscriminate hatred, however you wont appear to be a click whore to those of us who know the difference between the perpetrators and the victims. Im sure you have an answer to put me in my placelet it rip.

I make that distinction all the time. In fact I am proof that all Jews are not Satanists. But Jews  are too brainwashed to see  that I am actually fighting anti semitism.

Hamas Praises Heroic Shooting Operation Against Israeli Settlers

Friday, 07 April 2023 6:04 PM

Hamas spokesman Mohammad Hamada

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has praised as heroic a Friday shooting operation in the occupied West Bank, saying it showed resistance forces are ready to quickly react to any act of aggression by the Israeli regime.

Hamas spokesman Mohammad Hamada said described the attack, which left two settlers dead and another injured, as a crushing response to Israels aggression. He said resistance is now in the hearts of Palestinians and Israeli aggression against al-Aqsa Mosque and its defenders wont go unanswered.

Hamada reiterated Hamass position that al-Aqsa is a red line for Palestinians.

Iran says the international community should take effective and deterrent action against Israel.

The shooting attack left two Israeli settlers dead and another seriously injured near the settlement of Hamra in the West Bank.

It said the women were fired on in a car in the northern part of the Jordan Valley.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Israeli military said it had launched a manhunt for the perpetrators of Friday's shooting.

The regime carried out airstrikes and artillery bombardment on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon following rocket attacks in retaliation for Israeli assaults against unarmed worshippers at al-Aqsa in the past couple of days.

IAEA Head Adjusting His Zaporozhye NPP Security Initiative Russian Diplomat

Rafael Grossi visited the Zaporozhye NPP on March 29

A view of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant in the city of Energodar Erik Romanenko/TASS

MOSCOW, April 8. /TASS/. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi is trying to "adjust" his initiative on security and safety of Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant to speed up its implementation, there is no question of delaying the process. Mikhail Ulyanov, Russias envoy to the international organizations in Vienna, said this talking to TASS.

According to the diplomat, certain changes in Grossi's approaches to ensuring nuclear and physical nuclear safety and security at the Zaporozhye NPP occurred even before his last visit to the plant on March 29.

"He [Grossi] refused to use the word "zone" and clearly indicated that the object of protection would be the plant itself, without the territories adjacent to it. It seems that there is no question of delaying the process. Rafael Grossi is trying to adjust his initiative in such a way as to speed up its implementation," Ulyanov explained.

Grossi visited the Zaporozhye NPP on March 29. He inspected the plant facilities that had been damaged in Ukrainian shelling attacks. In particular, he could see the site between the coolant reservoirs at the fourth power unit that had been hit by a Ukrainian rocket. It was Grossis second visit to the nuclear power plant in the past six months (his first visit took place on September 1, 2022).

On April 5, the head of the IAEA visited Kaliningrad and discussed the security issues of the Zaporozhye NPP there with high-ranking representatives of several Russian agencies.

IAEA Head Will Have to Go Extra Mile in Dialogue with Kiev on Zaporozhye NPP Diplomat

Mikhail Ulyanov noted that the consultations on this issue, which took place on April 5 during Grossi's visit to Kaliningrad, "were held in a businesslike and constructive manner"

There are two kinds of people: Those who think everything is binary, and those who dont "IndyWatch Feed National"

Transcript below the fold.

About two weeks ago, I posted a video titled Theres a lot more to it! that pointed out that Richard Dawkins was wrong to claim that there are just two sexes, and thats all there is to it. Of course I got pushback, I expected it. So today Im going to respond to some of it.

First, I got a polite email asking for clarification.

Heres the dilemma: Im also a long time reader of Dr. Jerry Coynes blog. Quite a while ago, he wrote a piece about how gender is fluid, but sex, biologically speaking, can only be male and femalethat in mammals, those are the only real choices and any variation from that is vanishingly small.

I gather from your writing you have a different opinion, a long with Hemant Mehta and others I respect. However, I havent found any good counter arguments to the arguments Dr. Coyne makes. I consider myself a trans-ally, and I feel like I need to better understand this issue.

So, if youve answered this on your blog and Ive missed it, or if you have any links to articles that address it, Id really appreciate the help.

OK, I can recognize that difference of opinion, but unfortunately, Im not a reader of Coynes blog, so please dont expect me to be familiar with his position. I had to go looking for his arguments. Theres only one, and here it is:

the sexes are basically defined by the gametes they produce. Big gametes = female, small gametes = male; these are, in our species, eggs and sperm, respectively.

He also says we should not discriminate against trans people, which is nice and I agree, but his one argument is seriously flawed: it is deeply, profoundly, fundamentally reductionist. It is so reductionist it ought to be taken as a reductio ad absurdum it is a disproof of its own proposition by showing that it leads to absurd and untenable conclusions.

It should be obvious that you cannot define people by their gametes. If this were true, there would be no debate about trans participation in sports: the only effect of sex is to specify which of two flavors of gametes they produce, and the only sports where it would matter are those that are carried out in a petri dish between single cells. But no! Everyone is aware that sex contributes to all kinds of differences beyond their gametes. The whole problem is that we KNOW that there are far-reaching developmental changes that occur after fertilization and as a consequence of sex differences, which are both more subtle and more comp...

Highly Vaccinated COVID Success New Zealand Sees Huge Increase in Death Rates "IndyWatch Feed National"

Concerning increase in mortality in New Zealand

By Ian Miller | Unmasked | April 7, 2023

COVID has unfortunately created any number of repetitive stories.

Jurisdiction imposes mask mandates, population complies, masks prove ineffective, media claims masks didnt work because of lack of compliance.

Another example would be when countries with extraordinary compliance, such as Singapore or South Korea, would see increases ignored entirely, or blamed on the population not wearing masks of a correct level of quality.

Yet as a general rule, the most consistently predictable repetitive storyline has been the media and expert community declaring that a country was a pandemic success, only for their results to dramatically change in a relatively short period of time.

This was the case with the Czech Republic, with Australia, with Taiwan and many other locations.

Even within the United States adjustments showed that states like California heralded as pandemic winners actually had significantly worse results than previously realized.

But few places on earth have been as heavily praised as New Zealand.

Their science-following leadership was repeatedly hailed, honored, and praised for their effective communication, endless lockdowns, tyrannical response to protests, and prolific commitment to mandates.

All of the above, combined with their strict border controls, should have meant that New Zealand would avoid the significant increase in negative outcomes seen in other parts of the world.

At least, thats what the media and activist public health authorities claimed would happen.

The reality is far more complicated.

New Zealands COVID Metrics

Throughout 2020 and into 2021, New Zealand saw very little COVID transmission.

Unsurprisingly, the BBC praised the country for their efforts, explaining in detail how the country had become COVID free.

Jacinda Arden, now former prime minister, was once so completely committed to maintaining an illusion of infallibility that she claimed that the only source of accurate information available to the public was the government.

Of course, Arden then made the provably inaccurate claim that those who were vaccinated would net get sick and would not die.

The Dangers of Artificial General Intelligence "IndyWatch Feed National"

In the video above, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, discusses the exponential advancements in artificial general intelligence (AGI), spearheaded by OpenAI and DeepMind, which is owned by Google.

OpenAI is the creator of ChatGPT, which has taken the world by storm. It's the most rapidly adopted tech platform in history, acquiring more than 1 million users in the first five days.1 Less than two months after its public release, it had more than 100 million users.2

"GPT" stands for "generative pretrained transformer," and the "chat" indicates that it's a chatbot. The first GPT platform was created by OpenAI in 2018. GPT-3.5 was released in November 2022 and the newest version, 4.0, was released a few weeks ago.3

ChatGPT uses machine learning statistical pattern finding in huge datasets to generate human-like responses in everyday language to any question asked. It basically works by predicting what the next word in a sentence ought to be based on previous examples found in the massive amounts of data that it has access to.

AGI Will Be a Central Part of the Control Grid

While AI platforms like ChatGPT are neutral in and of themselves, it's already crystal clear that they will become an integral part of the globalist control grid. In short order, chatbots will replace conventional search engines, and this, unfortunately, could easily transform our world into something straight out of the 2006 sci-fi-comedy "Idiocracy," considering the bias being built in.

No longer will you get even a small variety of potential answers to your questions. AI will give you the answer, and opposing viewpoints won't even be part of the equation. The dangers of this should be obvious. Whatever a totalitarian regime wants the population to think and believe is what the AI will provide. As a result, true learning, and hence personal development, will essentially cease.

ChatGPT Poised to Deceive the Masses

To make my point, consider the following answers I got when I asked OpenAI's ChatGPT and Microsoft Bing's OpenAI-powered search engine but highly customized by Microsoft4 to edit and improve a speech I had written. These were their responses. They are both highly biased and prejudiced, but OpenAI's response is beyond tame compared to Microsoft's Bing version.

West Papua and an indigenous-led future

Events, Apr 7th

On Tuesday 18th April there will be an opportunity to listen to members of the West Papuan Liberation Movement to learn about the anti-colonial struggle in West Papua, and their vision for an ecological future. The free online event is supported by the Land Workers Alliance (LWA) and will feature Benny Wenda and Raki Ap from the Free West Papua campaign.

Many of you will no doubt have heard of Benny Wenda. In 1977 the Indonesian military, who have been in continual and ongoing occupation of West Papua since the early 1960s, began to attack the villages of the indigenous Lani people, including the village where Benny lived as a child. Members of his family were raped, mutilated and murdered as the West Papuan people were forced into subjugation by the brutal Indonesian regime. Later that year, 15,000 Lani people rebelled, but Lani villages (including Bennys) were bombed by the Indonesian military aircraft in retaliation (Britain would suspend the sale of BAE Systems Hawk Jets to Indonesia when they later bombed villages in East Timor, but, until very recently, British Hawk Jets continued to be the backbone of the Indonesian militarys air power). It is estimated that between 100,000 and 500,000 people have been killed in the West Papuan conflict since 1962. Benny became a freedom fighter for the West Papuan Liberation Movement and was himself imprisoned and tortured before he managed to escape to the UK where he still lives in exile.

In 2004, Benny founded the Free West Papua campaign. Raki Ap, international spokesperson for the campaign, will join Benny for the online event. Raki works tirelessly to highlight the fact that the liberation and self-determination of West Papua has the potential to save the worlds third largest rainforest. West Papua covers the two western peninsulas of New Guinea, the worlds second largest island and a major hotspot for biodiversity. Indonesia is the worlds largest producer of everyones favourite ecological disaster palm oil. West Papua has one of the highest levels of plant diversity in the world, it is also home to an incredible diversity of fauna and human cultures. Imagine what the palm oil industry will do to that.

Diversity, of course, is an anathema to neoliberalism. And Indonesias current foreign economic policy (FEP) is straight out of the neoliberal playbook. Indonesia seeks economic self-sufficiency and its constitution and political focus would seem to run contrary to...

Cometh the Chinese, Saith Blinken. Run. "IndyWatch Feed National"

I was pleasantly surprised a couple of months ago to get a call from Wang Fang Pi of the Chinese Political Affairs branch in New York, an old friend. Fang Pi headed the speech-writing office.  I had met him in a press bar in Bangkok while on a junket for the Washington Times and we had stayed in touch for a while.

He told me that he had been assigned the writing of a speech to be delivered by the Chinese consul before the United Nations in answer to charges of Chinese aggression by Tony Blinken. Would I, off the record, help him write the thing?

To one unfamiliar with the workings of the national press it might seem strange that he would ask this of me, a retired mid-rank journalist of no national importance. But in the hothouse world of Washingtons press, who you know often counts for more than whether you are famous. He said that he had always liked my style and that, although a graduate of Harvard, he was not confident of his mastery of the fine points of English. Shang I Hau, the diplomatic functionary who would deliver the speech, was incensed at Chinas being accused of aggressiveness by Blinken. Would I write something that was clear and, though he didnt use the phrase, pulled no punches? No contract was involved, no payment.

Really, this is how things are done. It meant for me a long afternoon and an email to Fang Pi, which he might use, ignore, or pick bits from. Since Violeta and I were leaving the next day for a back-country trip with no internet, I had to get busy right away. OK, fair enough.

I had never met Blinken as he became SecState well after I left Washington. An hours Googling andhe came forth from the web fog as pretty much generic Washington, brightish, somewhat egotistical, and perhaps too self-confident, too much a believer in American omnipotence, meaning he was given more to issuing orders than negotiating. OK, nothing new here.

But how to counter charges of Chinese aggressiveness? ...

We Have No Other Home: Alaska Tribes Sue to Stop Largest Pure Gold Mine "IndyWatch Feed National"

If the Donlin Gold Mine is built as planned in Southwest Alaska, it would be the largest pure gold mine in the world. It would also lead to the filling of thousands of acres of wetlands, harm salmon and rainbow smelt and risk a catastrophic spill of 20 to 40 percent of the up to 568 million tons of toxic waste that could end up stored behind a 471-foot tailings dam.

Thats why three Indigenous Tribes filed a lawsuit Wednesday to block the project, arguing that it threatens the Kuskokwim River ecosystem that they have relied on since time immemorial.

Weve been on this land for almost 10,000 years. What will happen if a tailings spill occurs? Orutsararmiut Native Council Executive Director Brian Henry said in a statement emailed to EcoWatch. We all know the answer. It would be catastrophic to our people and our way of life. We have no other home.

The Orutsararmiut Native Council filed the lawsuit alongside the Tuluksak Native Community and the Organized Village of Kwethluk in the U.S. District Court in Alaska, with Earthjustice acting as the Tribes representatives. In particular, the Tribes want the court to invalidate the major permits for the project, the Orutsararmiut Native Council explained in a statement. These are the 2018 Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS); the Joint Record of Decision in favor of the project from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Department of the Interior (DOI); the Army Corps approval to fill thousands of acres of wetlands for the projectwhich the lawsuit says would drain water from salmon-bearing streamsand a BLM and DOI permit for a natural gas pipeline that would run for 316 miles from Cook Inlet to the mine to act as a power source.

The lawsuit claims these approvals have three major flaws:

  1. The FEIS did not fully release the findings of an Alaska assessment of the health impacts of the mine.
  2. It did not consider the impact of a full tailings spill, only a spill involving less than one percent of a potential tailings dams capacity.
  3. The Army Corps didnt consider how increased barge traffic on the riv...
