Exhibition marks ten years of refugee offshore detention 4YOU 98.5FM Capricorn Community Radio
This week marks 10 years since then-Prime
Minister Kevin Rudd announced asylum seekers who arrived in
Australia by boat will have no chance of being settled in Australia
as refugees.
People seeking asylum in
Australia by boat were sent to the Manus Island Detention Centre
without the chance to obtain permanent
residency.
How has this policy affected refugees,
asylum seekers, and Australias reputation?
Dr Kasun Ubayasiri will present a photo exhibition about the vigil for the Kangaroo Point refugees in Brisbane called Dear Future, I am ready. For more information, click here

Dolphins teaching each other to beg a concern 4YOU 98.5FM Capricorn Community Radio
University of Queensland researchers have
discovered dolphins in the Moreton Bay Area, teaching fellow
dolphins to beg for food from recreational fishers.
This sophisticated behaviour was first noticed in
a study into the social structures of Indo-Pacific bottlenose
dolphins.
Since fishing is popular in the region, dolphins have now begun to take advantage of the feeds. But researchers warn this adaptive strategy may pose long term risks, and spread throughout wider dolphin populations.
Researchers also state better policing and awareness of illegal dolphin feeding is essential in avoiding harmful effects on these marine mammals.

any mechanics that will work on a VW? Townsville: Why not call it Cityvillage?
My mates VW caddy broke down in Mt Isa, he's managed to trailer it back to Townsville but having a hard time finding anyone to have a look at it. Anyone got a recommendation for a mechanic that would be willing to have a look? Sounds like a clutch or transmission issue from what he's told me.

Little Kingfisher - small wonder, big favourite tyto tony
All birds are special but some more so than others. In Australia the second smallest kingfisher in the world looms large for many. Small wonder as it is indeed a small wonder. Wonderful to watch in action. Wonderful to watch at rest. So, lots of my latest session (yesterday, 15/07/23) with a Little Kingfisher. A few do it some justice, others less so. Enjoy them all anyway. Little wonders don't come along every day, even in my happy place, the Townsville Town Common Conservation Park.
Hostels that allow van parking Cairns
Hi all,
My partner and I have been travelling in a camper van up the coast. We are arriving in Cairns tomorrow and are looking for some hostels that allow van camping (to reduce cost) as it seems all of the camper parks here are unreasonably expensive. If anyone has any recommendations I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance :)

Hey team, we are travelling to Port Douglas and Palm Cove from Auckland next month for 9 nights. We have a 2 year old boy and would love him to experience some of the Great Barrier Reef. Long time Cairns locals, is this heavy frequent rain typical for the middle months? When I've visited Cairns in the past at this time of year, it's been dry as a bone.
