Calling any university students located in Townsville- we want to hear from you! Townsville: Why not call it Cityvillage?

Re. Academic research exploring Australian university students' needs, AI use and academic conduct.

Are you interested in sharing your insights and experiences regarding the needs of university students while working on assessments? We are conducting a short research study to better understand student wellbeing and their awareness of cheating in assessments.

Your perspective is important! In this era of AI-powered chatbots (e.g., ChatGPT), most Australian universities have implemented updated guidelines on how AI can (or typically cannot) be used during assessments. However, we would like to gather more information directly from our Australian university students.

Click below to contribute your valuable response to our survey and help shape our understanding of student needs, AI use, and assessments. Your participation is and will remain anonymous and is expected to take 10-15 minutes.

Please note: Australian university students only. There is no reward for participating (sorry). Feel free to share around with people you think would be interested.

Thank you for your time! :)

Tipping for Reef Tours Cairns

US citizen (& family) visiting for 2 weeks in August. I've read numerous places, including Reddit posts, that Australian tipping culture is very different than that in the USA. Does this also extend to tiiping tour companies for great barrier reef trips? Or should we plan on tipping the crew on the boats? If so, what %? Thanks.

UPDATE: thanks, all. We knew about not tipping at restaurants and we now know that also extends to tours. Thanks!

On Sunday 9 July, Australian Army Boeing CH-47F 'Foxtrot' Chinook helicopter A15-306 was spotted visiting Rockhampton Airport.  It was heard to be using the radio callsign of "Chainsaw 11" and flew in from and back out to the North-East - possibly to the Royal Australian Navy ship HMAS Adelaide which seems to be in waters near the Shoalwater Bay Graining Area (SWBTA).

Exhibition marks ten years of refugee offshore detention 4YOU 98.5FM Capricorn Community Radio

This week marks 10 years since then-Prime Minister Kevin Rudd announced asylum seekers who arrived in Australia by boat will have no chance of being settled in Australia as refugees.

People seeking asylum in Australia by boat were sent to the Manus Island Detention Centre without the chance to obtain permanent residency.

How has this policy affected refugees, asylum seekers, and Australias reputation?

Dr Kasun Ubayasiri will present a photo exhibition about the vigil for the Kangaroo Point refugees in Brisbane called Dear Future, I am ready. For more information, click here

Dolphins teaching each other to beg a concern 4YOU 98.5FM Capricorn Community Radio

University of Queensland researchers have discovered dolphins in the Moreton Bay Area, teaching fellow dolphins to beg for food from recreational fishers.

This sophisticated behaviour was first noticed in a study into the social structures of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins.

Since fishing is popular in the region, dolphins have now begun to take advantage of the feeds. But researchers warn this adaptive strategy may pose long term risks, and spread throughout wider dolphin populations.

Researchers also state better policing and awareness of illegal dolphin feeding is essential in avoiding harmful effects on these marine mammals.

Hostels that allow van parking Cairns

Hi all,

My partner and I have been travelling in a camper van up the coast. We are arriving in Cairns tomorrow and are looking for some hostels that allow van camping (to reduce cost) as it seems all of the camper parks here are unreasonably expensive. If anyone has any recommendations I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance :)
