Water Python quick to take and swallow duck tyto tony

Water Python wraps around Pacific Black Duck in narrow channel between two small Townsville wetlands. About an hour later bird was an elongated bulge inside snake, surprisingly faster than I expected after wandering off birding for a bit.

Today (Sunday 18/06/23) started with a bang. Huge tall security roller door giving access to my block of retirement village studio units collapsed overnight, locking my high-top Toyota Troopy in. Smaller vehicles can duck through lower passage. So, walk north to bird next door at Rowes Bay Sustainability Centre, a touch closer than Rowes Bay Wetlands, which is next door to southwest.

Tourist in Townsville - media coverage re "crime" vs reality? Townsville: Why not call it Cityvillage?

We (family with 2 kids) are going to QLD in 3 weeks and were planning on staying in Townsville for 2 nights (mainly to go to Magnetic Island). Now my husband's mate (who watches too much TV) scared the shit out of him by telling him about what he saw on Current Affair (or something like that) re violence and crime. I know that media usually blow things out of proportion - so long story short - is there anything to be concerned about?

We would stay in a caravan park and have a rental car. I know to lock the car and not leave anything valuable visible.

Several reef sharks at greater threat of extinction than thought, study shows "IndyWatch Feed Enviro.au"

New research has found that five key shark species found in reef habitats are at higher risk of extinction than previously thought, mainly due to overfishing. Published in Science, the study indicates that gray reef sharks (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos), blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus), whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus), nurse sharks (Ginglymostoma cirratum) and Caribbean reef sharks (Carcharhinus perezi) declined by 60-73% across the world. As these sharks have disappeared from reefs, rays have begun to take over, except in places where both sharks and rays are being depleted, according to the study. This research builds upon a 2020 study in Nature that found that sharks were functionally extinct from about 20% of the worlds coral reefs. That [Nature] study basically grouped all of the sharks that occur on coral reefs together in one group and looked at what was going on, Colin Simpfendorfer, lead author of the new study and adjunct professor of marine and aquaculture science at James Cook University in Australia, told Mongabay. What weve done with this study is weve actually broken it down into individual species so we could look at what is happening to communities of sharks and rays. Early results of the study were used to update the status of four of the shark species on the IUCN Red List: the gray reef shark and Caribbean reef shark are now listed as endangered, and the blacktip reefThis article was originally published on Mongabay
